I replaced a lot of the sounds.

I experimented with light on the same image as the bezel mask. It does not change with the light slider, so the light will always be there, and more contrasting when the game is darkened. It worked, but I way over did it on the first attempt and under did it on the second.

The layout will be different, and I intend this to be the easiest and most kid friendly mod. It may have slots as well as holes.

Also the latest WIP of Ice Cold Beer has a telescoping bar, meaning it will get longer the steeper it is and the ends will stay put. It's not 100% precise yet though. The bar will be able to be much steeper before the ball whacks out too, due to the sides doing the job of containing the ball longer.

I also did a study where I separated the bar into 4 sections. The two ends (holders) and the 2 piece telescoping bar. The two ends constantly were simply rotated towards each other and the tube attached to one and rotated towards the other end, and the rod to the other end, rotated towards the first. The mechanics were perfect, but there was sheering in the graphics when it moved, even when v-synced. I may be able to fix that with a single rod which will be always long but be behind the ends and bezel of course, or a single bar scaling with the angle as the added value, which is what the version I mentioned above is doing with the bar and ends as still one piece. If I can get this to work the belt could be visible, not that it would be, but the mechanics would be good enough.

Kid friendly, don't you mean adult friendly, my 9YO is way better at ICB than I am! Lol.  Sounds really good though.

If you get stuck for ideas for playfields let me know I got a few swirling around upstairs. Like "Teed Off Gophers"  a nine hole golf course where you have to avoid dropping the ball down the gopher holes.

If you drop them, you here the gofer chuckle from the teed off pinball game, other wise it's the "Hole in one!" sound.

The intro music could be "I'm alright" from Caddy Shack.

It sounds brilliant.

Why don't you draw something up 768 wide, by 1024 tall.

Since we will be moving everything as far as graphic holes and triggers, you could go higher res if you want (up to 810 X 1080 but 9/16 aspect ratio) The bezel needs only about 10 pixels inside that for a minimum, but more is better.

This can go arcade quick, but if you want to keep it mechanical that would be great and would not exclude something like an animated gopher popping up a non score hole to taunt and perhaps gets whacked by the ball if you can get there before it goes back down.

If you don't draw or composite, you could sketch it out.

Ice Cold Beer

Updated to both versions in one. select Y/N for rotated monitors. You won't be asked again. To change orientation again, you will have to edit the ICB.ini file. Rotate System 0=no, 1=yes, -1 will re-enable the prompt.

- minor physics tweaks.

- minor timing tweaks.

There is a bug I have to fix tonight.

To use mapped keys the flag has to be set. MAME is basically a custom key set, but just selecting MAME does not set the keys mapped flag. A work around is to select MAME, go to MAP KEYS and map anything like 3 to coin. You will still be able to use 5 and the flag will be set and all the MAME defaults will work.

Ice Cold Beer 3.0 will most likely be the final

- fixed the controller behavior

- added the sparkle for the score holes to the bezel glass

- added both shadow and reflection for the bar and the ball

- cleaned up the over exposure around the holes

- cleaned up a few pixels on the edge of the bezel

- fixed score saving if last ball is tilted (if high)

Here is a 5 digit mod if anyone is interested.

It's the same except for the digits and the bit of the cabinet showing.

Hey Shockman, just letting you know I'm still working on a golf version for you to check out.

I drew up the basic design. I need to clean it up and add color then I will post a pick and see what you think.

I would like to thank Shockman for creating this awesome piece of software.

I have build a 1/2 sized replica last summer, using this software, and will do a writeup on the build soon.

I will post a link here when done.

EDIT:

I started posting the building process here:

Here is a picture of the ICB Mini i did next to the Original during last Eurocade:

When I load the game up I pick to have it rotate on my cab but it does not  - Do I have to use some other program with it to rotate it?

It's not asking you if you want it to rotate. It will not rotate. It is asking if you have your monitor rotated. If your cabinet has a tall screen select 'Y' and if it has a wide screen select 'N'.

What it is asking is basically just how to handle the aspect ratio.

No problem. I wish it could be more intuitive. The game is pretty much going to stick to the correct aspect ratio anyway, but on a rotated monitor it is a bigger, and padded top and bottom, and, if the bezel is turned off there is zooming to have it fill the screen absolutely.
