I don't Know if this information can help you to fix Black Hole Sound issues so the Eclipse (Gottlieb 1982) are the same generation and seems to sounds better.

Yup, works, thanks a lot Joe!  (apparently there is maybe also a rev. 6 somewhere out there, but rev. 5 is now the newest!)

Yes, the interesting part is this though ;)

"It's based on the PinMAME/MAME code that was linked in this thread before."

Still interesting read overall though, thanks for the hint!

I can confirm @Mrtr32 findings. Both roms for this one gives me OK crc - and I remember playing this a while ago without issues. When it broke, is another question.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

For the Black Hole sound issues that appeared in 3.3 beta build.

I keep in the last good working 3.3 beta build that sound better and with that build I can ear the sound effect when the ball going to the lower playfield.

here is the link to this old beta build if you want to test it and compare with the last changes.

Please try the attached nv files.
I shrunk the NVRAM to its correct size of 16KB as opposed to the wrong size of 64KB before; maybe that's the reason?

Attached Files

Thanks Gaston. Your 16k nvram file solved the issue! :dblthumb:

If I understand the rom is creating a bad corrupted nvram file when is not present or it's a vpinmame bug?

Actually the nvram size changed, so if you still had the old one around then that may have been causing that issue.

It should also work if you simply delete the .nv.

@toxie

I've try to delete the nv file without success before.

You might try resetting the affected ROM

remove its reg entry

example

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Freeware\Visual PinMame\blkhole7

I would remove the key blkhole7

Also remove the .nv file in vpinmame\nvram

Also remove the config in Vpinmame\config

ROM is now totally reset

No.

The only working solution is to replace the nvram file with the 16k version from Gaston in the previous post #1332.

Well, it has been a while since I verified mrtr32' issue so I'm not 100% sure anymore what I did try. But, I would be surprised if I didn't try what wiesshund suggested. It is kind of second nature here when something isn't working to clear everything and start from scratch. Well - renaming instead of deleting :)
