Woohoo! THanks for clarifying how to get it  aligned right.  Man so simple. Very nice.  Really smooth on my system.

No problem! I saw on your config that you have multiple graphic cards. We nether tried that so maybe there is some problem with vsync. Try disabling it. If you have multiple outputs on one card, I would like you to try runnin on one card only please. This is an interesting setup! Also try to update drivers, and, as you said, on w7...

Tried the following.

Disabled the 2nd graphics card and only used GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1024MB on XP. No change: still 8 FPS

Running the program on W7 on one card did clearly improve matters though and got 30-40 FPS, unfortunately still unplayable.

Also disabled vsync, didn't notice any difference.

Ok. Important to note that it is so much better on 7. Maybe a driver issue. Have you followed my few tips on performances? Pixel lights all the way down, disabling reflections?

550 is becoming a "bit" old: 2 cards generations and just below middle in the performances range... what is your CPU? Thanks for this report anyway, this will help us defining minimum/recommanded configuration...

BilboX, thanks for the response. I'll try running it in dual output mode from the GTX 680 and see how it goes. :)

Thanks for this alpha release! :) It works very well on my setup (Win7 64 bits, GTX 680, latest drivers)

I have an I7 laptop at 2,2 ghz , 8 gigs of RAM and an ATI 6970M (2 years old PC)

All tables run smooth in desktop mode.

In cab view, i need to lower the pixel light count to get the tables to run smoothly

Yes, I have been playing with the performance tweaks and the max I got with those was approximately 40 FPS.

Could very well be that the driver is the problem for XP. I can only use an older driver because of other issues I got using a more recent driver. I guess my setup is not beefy enough. I also ran into issues with demanding VP tables, so it is not really a surprise.

Setup:

AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 3.0GHz

4GB RAM
GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1024MB
Gigabyte 870 A-UD3 Mainboard

Thanks for the release !

Looks promising but I really miss the option to rotate the screen 90 degrees in standard camera mode, in a easy way. In cabinet mode, the graphics are not as good as I expected, 2048 x 2048 textures in cabinet mode generate very blurry visuals.

I really miss "native resolution", in overall the graphics are blurred in a strange way. A game like BF4 looks 10 times sharper with the same resolution MSAA settings. Maybe I do something wrong?

The physics editor is also a huge need, the physics are not as good as VP at this moment, imo. But I know that they could be tweaked in a future release, so this won't be a problem by then.

Still a GREAT first alpha release ! Thanks again! :otvclap:

Try adjusting the light bloom amount and treshold. The Lights seem to soften the graphics a bit. If you turn these down, they become a bit sharper.

Sorry I did not understood the camera rotation in standard cam: not possible at the moment. Use your driver!

The "blurry" visuals in cabinet comes from multiple factor, starting by texture rendering. We can achieve the same "sharpness" but if we do that, we would have an "ortho" view...

And the overall "blurring" is bloom. Desactivate it or tune it ;).

I do not agree for physics :). Still, have fun...

Just for info: I resolved the joystick problem rewritting an entire DirectInput plugin for Unity. It will be included in the next release. Now I am exhausted and will take some holidays (maybe two weeks). I'll keep watching this thread.

Cheers!

I've been trying to get BK2K to work, but all I get is a black screen with a grey square and a small grey rectangle next to it, in the upper right corner of the screen. I'm totally new to this, though, in fact I just installed VP and VPMAME today! Also, I can hear sounds (Mechanical sounds, I have no idea if the ROM is actually running or not) and open the options. (The options the appear on the right are really glitchy though, like i click settings even if my mouse isn't on them, and some I can't click at all. Any help? I'm running Windows 8.1, and the program is running in Windows 8 compatibility with Administrator rights. One more thing, my firewall acted up when I started the program, and I blocked access to my local network or whatever it's called.

The error message "COM Exception" means that vpinmame was not correctly initialized. Did you replaced the vpinmame.dll by th eone on the root folder? Does VP launch correctly? Do you have downloded the good VPM rom (bk2k for Black Knight?). If you are new, I suggest you to browse on this forum for tutorials on how to setup VP. Then, once you managed to run a bk2k table in VP, read our doc, in the the "First step Section". Your report is also interesting because I think none of us tried it on W8. Good luck ;).

Yes, the physics are a bit alpha'ish   but flippers will be a massive step up from what FP ever was , even in its current state they are ""IMO"" :P. I managed to get a flunctuating 45-60fps , so it's playable now at least but I probably won't be playing on it anymore until there's a table import or I can do some physics editing. I've had a table being made for a few months with models done in blender and learnt C# for a couple of months raring to go.

Thanks for letting us check the program out! Really cool, huge potential! And you did me a big favour by making me troubleshoot my pinball system lol. She definatley needed a good seeing to.. :BDH:

Cheers

Win7 64 bits, GTX 770, latest drivers, 16GB ram - crashes badly with black screen after loading table.

I would like to send error logs but can't see any email address in documentation....

Just one note because it does not seem that you guys saw it on the doc: THERE IS some edition/physics edition functionnality in this version. Just launch in command line using "/editor" => you will be able to play with the "Curve Editor" (complex flippers) AND global physics values IN RUNTIME. Though, there is no documentation at this point...

Upload it here I will take a look as soon as I can. Black screen often means VPM did not load successfully. Did you saw the VPM splashscreen?

As an additional data point, I am running it on Win 8.1 x64 without issue (OC'ed Core2Duo e8400 @ 3.6Ghz, 8GB RAM).  It is not necessary to run as admin or in any compatibility setting.  I also had that COM exception and in the course of troubleshooting tried to reset everything to default.  Ultimately re-registering vpmame did it.

The pixel lights really cause a hit as you say particularly on AMD, I've got a 3GB 7950 and it drops it to 30-40fps with the lights increased beyond 10 or so.  Very exciting though, thanks for the work!

I played with all the settings for cab mode and while the play field looks good the toys, plastics, flashers, and table objects  look jaggy and low res on my end too. BTW I cranked everything up to highest quality setting.

I am not understanding what you mean by ortho view?

Thank you for your efforts on this project
