Just upgraded from Beta 5 to 6 and then to 7, first impressions:
- Some options moved to "preferences", takes some getting used to but offers more per-table tweaks.
- Night/day slider in preferences doesn't work, I have to use the "adjust user settings" mode (F6) which is almost impossible to adjust precisely with the flipper/shift keys.
- On my PC, Alternative Depth Buffer processing is still completely broken on a lot of tables, turning it off produces sawtooth type artifacts to varying degrees and produces aliasing (perhaps it disables driver level MSAA).
ADBP works correctly in 10.6.2 and 10.7.3.
- ADBP does function on VPW's Guns N' Roses, but introduces a noticeably blurry and bloomy picture in Beta 6 and 7 while Beta 5 looks fine in this regard.
On this table the ROM sound is clearly distorted in Beta 6 and 7, not in Beta 5.
- The new ini system causes bloat and a messy look in the table folders, they'd double in visual size if I'd tweak and export settings on all the tables.
At least for the moment I'm keeping Beta 5 handy.
[edit]
ROM sound distortion seems to have resolved itself somehow.
I do notice that on the GNR table dynamic screen space reflections are rather heavy on the frame rate in Beta 7; no issue in Beta 5 (perhaps these reflections aren't enabled there?).
