Sorry. I thought it was a Call for Programmers.

Good luck in getting your Pinball Wizards sorted out. There are still some functions you could sacrifice to that end, maybe the LeftFlipperKey, and RightFlipperKey.

While I may not agree with his methods....I agree with his main issue.....I am never going to have a pinball wizard and the 9 extra boards you have to have to run it to get that real world feel...Not to mention the extra 3 monitors rotated and turned inside out....or whatever it is....I have a monitor and a keyboard....It does seem that the pinball wizard (seeing as I cant afford such luxuries........) and all that extra stuff has become the main issue instead of what vp used to be....pinball on your pc.....I NO LONGER HAVE A REAL LIFE machine having sold it to someone here,so this is the best I will ever have.I for one would love to see VP get back to its core and that is pinball on your PC with a keyboard and monitor. At least thats what it used to be.....

Oh and anyone that is having trouble with graphics limitation in the latest VP9....go back to VP 9.0.2 Having much better luk running tables that wont run under the latest VP9.

I'm sorry Shockman, I will stand up for the rights of anyone that wants to be creative, and you do have that right. But what you are asking for here is very clearly what you personally want, and not what the general community feel is the best way forward. Why the heck would I want a new version of VP with a different ball texture? are you kidding? that sort of thing gets loaded in when you load a table anyway! I can add my own ball from the user interface without hacking into the code! I'm sure that when the team get around to it, they will be looking at options to change the specifics of the ball, even the ball size, and probably even ways to make it more backwards compatible as well. Destruk made a very long wish list (which is open to suggestion), and most of it was not related to cabinet-specific features. I don't have a cabinet set up but I use VP9 quite happily and I have found it be far and away the most versatile and stable version of VP out there.

I have to say that I believe that I, as well as pretty much everyone else in the community apart from you, have faith in the team to take VP in a direction that benefits all users, whatever set up they have. The confusion between VP8 and VP9 is enough to deal with already without these renegade versions that are done according to one person's tastes.

There are two things which are very clear to me here:

1) this dev team is what the community wants and what is best for the community
2) you didn't get invited to the party so now you want to make your own version.

Go ahead and make your own version buddy. Do whatever you want to the source code. Make it play the table upside down for all I care. You have that right. Just as I and the rest of the community have the right to stick to an officially sanctioned version that everyone else will be building tables for. That's what we want.

I'll give you this though - your version will at least satisfy 100% of the people that actually use it.

just to say, if that last post came across harshly, I apologise. All I'm saying is that there is a general consensus that a dev team and a sanctioned version is the right way to go. Yes, we are all individuals, but we have to work as a cohesive unit. Just like in real life, sometimes you have to sacrifice your own personal desires in exchange for stability and what is best for the whole. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

The reason for a shiny ball, a shiny plunger with a nice tip and spring, rubber on the flippers as default, POP mechs, etc. is to put the best face on VP as possible. My concerns are not just for the community, but for the potential of the community. VP on first look is the same now as it was a decade ago. And when I first saw VP I was not impressed in the least. I nearly did not even give it a second look.

I think everyone here would agree that the second look at VP, when you understand just how much control you have over it is incredibly impressive. I did not have community support when I first played with VP, it did not exist. Today the community probably brings more people to VP than VP brings people to the community, so a lot of the surprise, wonder, and excitement that I found is in a way inherent in may new users, meaning they already know where it can go.

Still, I know I could design a better Table1 than VP has. I think I can design a better Table1 than anyone else. Now I have the chance to prove that, and sorry, but I can not accept that it would be best if I refrained from doing that for the "better" of the community. I don't agree with that attitude, and I don't understand it. I think I can make VP impressive at first glance.

It should be obvious to everyone that VP is catering to the niche at the cost of everyone else. I am not on the team, of course, but if I was, I would suggest a moratorium of the cabinet, u-shock boards, Pinball Wizzard support, multi-rotated monitor support, etc, until VP9 was put back into shape. Then, I would work on Table1 elements and the GUI while the others worked on supporting the niche.
