I made all cables running from the backbox modular using molex and all power cables, sound and display cables are being fed through two plastic ducts. When I need to have access to the interior I just need to disconnect the power cables, speaker cables and molex and pull the display back. It takes me about 5 minutes to disconnect everything. If you pull the TV only half way you already have access to 90% of everything if you have a good interior layout, so plan a good layout. The way I planned mine, Zeb's booster board+Ledwiz+iPac are all accessible through the coin door, on the left wall, so no need to remove the TV. All computer stuff is accessible using the back drawer also without removing the TV. The only things I have no easy access at this point without removing the TV are the 4 back contactors, gear and shaker motor and the power strip/bottom fans. I mean, I can still reach them, but using a little contortion and considering I'm 5'9" and fairly lean :D
Once I have the power strip fixed to the back/side wall, then the access will be almost complete without the need to remove the TV.

The progress was slower but steady this weekend. Got the mercury switches installed and they are working fairly nicely, but still need adjustment.
I installed the rest of the contactors, without the mod I'm planing to add (for metallic sounds). Fixed the coin door switch a little better, replaced all RGBs and all lights are now working 100%! I also had fun printing some stickers:

here's the shaker motor with the warning for moving parts sticker:
index.php?app=core&module=attach&section

Fake Williams "Rango" original sticker inside:
index.php?app=core&module=attach&section

All supervised by my 2 year old son Mathias:
index.php?app=core&module=attach&section

Some reproduction of the original ones (thanks Chriz for the idea and files!)
index.php?app=core&module=attach&section

Keeping the kids away:
index.php?app=core&module=attach&section

Fake Williams "Rango" original sticker on the back:
index.php?app=core&module=attach&section

All stickers on the back:
index.php?app=core&module=attach&section

Not a lot left other than installing the DMD and creating the artwork.

Thank you Nemo! :D

Here's a crappy little video (vertical and short because my Iphone ran out of space... sorry :-/ )
Sound was left low so you can hear everything clicking.
Watch it in 1080p to compensate for the vertical aspect ratio:

As you can see, the colored light domes have little to no effect at all displaying the correct colors. You can see the same intense red and green passing by the purple and yellow domes without a problem :)

ps.: the Bally logo is temporary :D

Awesome!!! I love your almost obsessive attention to detail. You and I were cut from the same cloth my friend. :) That being said, if mine turns out even close to as nice as yours, I will be ecstatic.

Really top class work all around. I see why you are successful in your profession as well. You should definitely be proud...

Oh, and I love camera phone teaser videos, but before all is said and done, I expect a video with quality worthy of the source material. ;)

Ha! Thanks guys. Note taken! :D
First someone asked about my blurry cell pics, now my crappy phone video :D
No worries, when I have the time I'll take a ton of pics of small details around the machine and make some decent videos as well!
I'm just waiting till I get the plasma DMD installed (fingers crossed!).

Cheers,
-Kris

Err, umm, well, that would be me on both counts.  Sorry.  :)

I dabble in photography and videography a little bit, so I guess that stuff catches my attention more than the average joe.  Admittedly though, I'm the pot calling the kettle black; my thread shots are usually no better than what you've been posting. ;)

You're doing an outstanding job.  Carry on my friend!  :drinks:

So did you print the stickers yourself?  Inkjet?  If so, can you point me to the sticker stock you're printing them on?

It's a full page, letter size sticker from the local Office Depot.
It's for labeling packages. It's really sticky and somehow thin. If you place it on a smooth surface and you want to remove it, that will be very messy, so be careful to get it right first!
I printed using my color laser printer. I'll make available all images, including the Williams logo retrace I did. I'll upload it somewhere till the end of the week, so you guys can download it.

I love the screens behind the fans. I need to do that, my Cats keep trying to stop the fans on the back of my cab. They wrecked the sub on my last pin by clawing at it from underneath

We are lucky we have a VERY fat cat that doesn't do much damage to things other than a plate full of cat food :D

For all of you interested, here's a compilation of files that can be used to print many different types of stickers to add that authentic feel to your build.
I'm not the author and all credit goes to the authors. I just made it easier for you to find everything in one place :)
I also added my own Williams logo re-trace as well. This logo matches 1 to 1 the speaker panel present in my Monster Bash.

Softwares that can be used to open the files:
Adobe Photoshop (open most of them)
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Acrobat Reader
Open Office
Or any other software compatible with PDF, AI, PNG. JPG, ODT or DOC files.

Cheers,
-Kris

Kris, what router bit did you use to cut the slots for the playfield TV?

EDIT: Bought a 1/2" straight bit.  Hopefully that'll do the trick.

One more question though: For the routed channel for the TV, what's the distance from the end of the channel to the front of the cab?  Trying to figure out how close to the front I should route the slot...

Okay, you've been quiet for too long. What sort of crowning touches you got brewing?  Any new ideas for the artwork?

Oh, and see the question in my post above.  Sent you a PM too, but I reckon you must have missed it...or you're ignoring me. And if that's the case, carry on!  LOL  :)

WOW! Very nice build. You going to bring it to CAX? I'm sure they'd be open to having a VirtualPin there.

Oh, BTW, I might just steal some of your color schemes for my build! I'm kinda digging on the gloss white and gloss red in the cab!

I'm back! (slowly...). Too much happened in the past months, but I'm slowly coming back to my build.

I started the artwork and here's the big change in my project: it's not a "Rango" themed pinball anymore. I decided to create a "Pacific Rim" theme since I worked on the movie and it has cooler stuff (giant monsters fighting giant robots).

I'll be posting some artwork in progress soon, so stay tuned.

Sorry I missed the previous messages. I hope you guys got everything sorted out. I was not ignoring anyone, just REALLY busy and completely disconnected from anything pinball related :)

As a preview, the side artwork will be based on this poster, but retraced, recoloured and a half-tone effect will be added to give that silk-screen authentic look to it. I worked on both characters for the movie, sculpting "Otachi", the monster on the right and building the head and torso of "Gipsy Danger", the robot in the center:

And was shot in Toronto. :dblthumb:

Looking forward to seeing how your redraw/halftone art turns out.
