Medium Power Board:

Using 4 ULN2803A driver ICs bridged from 32 outputs down to 16 outputs allows this board to handle loads of up to 800ma per output. Uses the same opto interface circuit like the High Power Mosfet driven board and all ICs are socketed for easy replacement in case of an oops.

These are $45.00 plus shipping.

This looks awesome, I have been avoiding adding lights and stuff in my cab build as it's too complicated. Now there is some hope for me. Do you have a " kit " for us electronic gadget idiots that can just " plug and play" ? with lights and things ? either way, please let me know how I can purchase one of these
Thanks
Tom

Hey Zeb, I've finally started my build so I better start ordering the hardware for flashers & feedback. If this thing is up and running before I wire that stuff in, it'll never happen.

Do you think your board would play nice with these? I'd like to use them for all my feedback.
http://www.amazon.co...mp;sr=8-1-fkmr0

I have no idea what their duty cycle is, but they seem sturdy, so I'd like to use those (unless you recommend I don't) as well as three 1w or 3w RGB LED's and two of those big white auto LED strobes some folks are using. As long as I share the same output for the two strobes, that should be 10 outputs, leaving 6 for solenoids. I don't plan to use shakers, knocker, or motors so I assume a medium power board would work for me?

Check out my mini-cab project

The only thing that would concern me is the 2.5w output max per driver chip. I'd recommend mixing your outputs across the chips to balance the load (eg: one solenoid, one led per chip rather than 4 solenoids on one chip and 3 leds on another). It's hard to guess what the draw of the solenoid will be so I really can't say if the medium power will handle it without trouble. The high power, no problem.

You'll probably have to make some spacers for the solenoid to get good contact with the cab, but they will give you a much more satisfying feel and sound for the bumper jets.

Hi Zebulon, OK I know it's already some time ago, but the 2 boards did arrive here! Thanks mate!
I will post the link to my build soon so you see the usage of them ;-)

I just have to extra questions:
1> on the 16 output high power boards, what is the max load per output?
2> I would like to add a "night switch" to kill all outputs so my kid can keep a good night sleep. Do you think it is OK to put this switch on the 5V power supply of both boards?? all other power supply would still be connected, as well as the input from ledwiz. I hope by cutting of the 5V to the boards would make the trick to "silence" all exits...

Cheers and thanks for the feedback!

Great to hear that they arrived safely (I have such faith in the postal service smile.gif ).

Answers:

1> I have tested to 6 amps without issue but I would recommend keeping the loads to 5 amps max per output (I'm more concerned with the board traces burning up than the Mosfets blowing). Chances are great that your high draw loads may only have 2 or three running at the same time so it should be safe. Guaranteed to run 3A all day long. Best bet is to try it out and see what the heat generated by the MosFets is like. If you burn one up, let me know.
2> The 5v line is exactly the right line to switch to kill the outputs, you will be shutting down the power to the optos and therefore nothing will operate. It will in no way interfere with or hurt the ledwiz, programming or computer to do this. Great idea!!

Anymore issues or questions feel free to raise them! I'd love to see a pic of the install.

Hi Zebulon, thanks for the info. well actually I think reaching 1 or 2 amps at each output will be hard, so I think I'm save with all stuff that will be added dblthumb.gif
Good to hear the 5V line can be used as night switch without facing problems! will surely add it, my kid can still have silent nights otvclap.gif

And as you already discovered, my project build I added here : link

Seems as good a place as any to add this info for everyone. There is no need to fuse the outputs of the ledwiz that are connected to the booster board. The optos on the board are only rated for 40-70ma and will blow far sooner than a 500ma fuse on the ledwiz. As the optos are only $1.00 each and are in sockets for easy replacement, they take on the role as as fuse for the ledwiz output. At $4.00 per board total cost I figured it was a cheaper way to protect the ledwiz than 16 fuses and holders.

Great job on the wiring layout Shibby.
