I played against the current top ranked player, Zach Sharpe, on the planet in a competitive match in one of the PAPA tournaments in Pittsburgh. I won a game against him on Attack From Mars. It was ten or so years ago before he was the top ranked player and he was playing in the B division. I'm still happy to be able to say that I've won a competitive game against the best.

 

I'm pretty fortunate in that I have a great place to play close to home, "Pinball Gallery" in Downingtown, Pa. We just had a yearly tournament where three of the top 100 world ranked players attended. I played well and had a shot at winning going into the last two games, but I crumbled under the pressure and came in 5th, 1st in the "B" division.

Verdaderamente, y sin querer sobresalir, creo que he sido uno de los mejores jugadores en el mundo. Le dedique mucho tiempo a esto junto a mis amigos, y realmente, cada vez que jugabamos, la gente de la sala se acercaba a rodear el pinball que ocupabamos para vernos jugar, y los mas chicos para aprender. Los records que conseguiamos en las maquinas de los 90' eran bestiales. El tiempo que duraba una partida de 4 jugadores, podia llegar a 2 hs, 2:30hs (solo un juego!).
Leer la publicaciones de los campeonatos de pinball y otras publicaciones, me deja helado, ya que hay cosas que describen como que son "solo para profesionales", y eran moneda corriente hasta para los mas chicos.
Si en algun momento me sobra dinero, me gustaria poder viajar para participar en un torneo. Seria genial, ya que aca es algo que nunca se hizo.
Para varios de Nosotros, el pinball llego a ser casi un deporte de competencia. Creo que las posibilidades y dificultades que puede ofrecer un pinball son incontables, lo que a su vez los hacen deliciosos.
Esto es m una pasion, pero al dia de hoy, es dificil encontrar maquinas que esten en condiciones para poder jugar decentemente.
Por favor, no tomen esto como algo arrogante ni mucho menos, ya que no es la intencion.
El pinball es para pasar divertirse y hacer amigos, como a mi me ha pasado.

Well I am pretty much a "can't consistently aim or battle well but is willing to own at least a digital pinball machine."

 

Ever since I was playing Pinball on windows (When it is not a emulated Video Game) I always had to rely on the keyboard like the shift keys to use flippers, the Z and / keys to nudge left or right, Space to nudge upwards and the like but when I am trying to play good I have to play conservatively and hope to Thor, Zeus, Princess Celestia and whatever kind of gods that exist that I can improve and beat the wizard modes to show that I can do whatever I put my mind to.

 

Yes I can't focus in well without medicine but I can assure you that I have a good time whenever I am a good player or not.

I haven't played pinball in an actual arcade in a few years and I'm not really sure how to rate myself given the vague criteria of the original poll.  I've consistently beat the high scores on Pinball Arcade and other pinball games.  I'm pretty decent with flipper control, know how to hold the ball, can exchange from one flipper to the other and really good at hitting the ramps repeatedly and consistently.

The only thing I need to work on is knowing when to let the ball hit the bottom without first hitting the flippers for a potential bounceback save depending on the game/machine.  Also, I'm not a fan of tilting, although I'm aware many pros use it competitively.  I've only ever gotten yelled at though when I was a kid

well, i'm proud to say that i meet Cayle G. in real yesterday, in the Belgium BOP final, also including Robert S. & Lieven E.

no doubt that i was the surprise guy in that last 4...

 

no need to explain all here, but seing how Cayle kicked our a** on his 1st ball on Waterworld, and you know how long is the way from a "good" player as me, and the actual world champion !

I would say I'm above average. The only reason why I wouldn't say good is because my bumping or nudging skills STINK!!! I need more time with actual physical machines. Now... With that being said, when I go out and play at the pinball arcade near my house once a month. I generally get about 2-4 replays. I know that is not a lot of replays, but I'm just happy whenever I get even close to a replay as I consider that the mark of a decent game. Also, I am content even in a bad game as long as I trigger multiball. So sometimes I don't care about score, I just like the chaos of multi ball. With that being said doing head to head turn based play I SUCK!!!!

I generally take my father to the pinball arcade and we play for about 3-4 hours. In most heads up play he wins 60% of the time. But, I generally get more replays in a night then what he gets.

He actually was watching me play creature from the black lagoon which is one of my favorite pins, and he was impressed with my score that I got. I got the replay of course. It was a very good game that I had... And only like 2nd or 3rd attempt on the table for that day. So I decided to walk away and not play it again for the rest of that night. And I will say... That score was mostly due to my practice on VP. The table I have on my machine is a really solid emulation of it. Same was true to Dirty Harry, which I think the shots are actually easier in the actual machine. On VP I just can't seem to hit anything with that dang gun.

As for EM machines. I totally love playing those both in VP and in the wild. The one pinball arcade cycles some in and out regularly. And while I agree with users its mostly about just staying alive and getting your multipliers up. They are fun for short bursts. Ihope to add one real EM machine to my game room... Of which I got 0 actual pinballs in it... But, I hope for a revenge from mars, rocky and bullwinkle, hardbodies, and any cool EM(So long as the backglass is sexy).... And maybe one day an Elivra pin... Don't care which... But, that is my wish list.

I play mainly VP so it's hard to judge how good I am...don't really consider that real pinball, however it does help with understanding the rules of a table.
I really need to spend more time with real tables...there's an arcade right down the street from where I work and go to school so there's no excuse.
