Good post Gravy. It's strange how we have to try to decipher Blacks intentions and motivations. Would love to hear from the man himself on these subjects.

A meat locker, really I'm sure they don't work without power, which is why straight of the bat I had no interest in FP. Sure it worked here no problem everything set to max, 1600x1200x32bit+2xAA but it had no user definable or tweak-able options and I knew as soon as any were discovered, they would be removed.

lol meat locker? nuh... usually its arid, but this year, with all the floods, its pretty humid. But I AM vice pres of the local bowling club over the road, n RH is pres. n there IS a sizable coolroom in there, so we could probably work something out if you don't drink all the beer lol.

I am fairly sure FP doesnt have a meat locker mode any more. one moment: *runs FPINBALL.EXE /meatlocker* hey its running. oh look! moeatlocker mode! oh wait. it crashed. somebody find me the meatlocker registry tweaks will you?

anthias, I can't drink like I used to, and I just can't drink Common Swill [in the USA that's known as Budweiser, Coors, Miller, Pabst, Olympia, Burgermeister or any other beer that passes as a Pilsner]. I've become spoiled and stick exclusively to microbrews; the closest to "mass-produced" I ever get is Samuel Adams.

So even if you have a killer IPA down there, two pints of that will do me for a while.

Let me preface the following question/comment by saying job well done to those who create the tools and to those who use the tools to create an outstanding virtual pinball experience. As a relative newb to the virtual pinball arena, I amazed what this group has accomplished. Again job well done.

Can anyone tell me why a table author would choose to develop a table in Future Pinball opposed to Visual Pinball? I primarily use VP in my cabinet because the tables add a "realism" that just isn't present in FP. The tables in FP are very well done and easy to setup but the gameplay is quite artificial. I am quite interested in moving from a Leech to a Contributor, unfortunately, not sure which tool is best to begin with (FP or VP).

FP is much easier to start with. The tools in the editor are easier to understand. You should start with FP, then move on to VP.

Agreed, VP is superior in terms of putting design principles into practice but FP is the superior tool for actually learning them in the first place. All the components you need are standardised and conform to an approximate template of real-world sizes and mechanics, which is exactly what a budding designer needs. Much as the top designers love VP for its sheer flexibility, the standardisation isn't here - you have to create it yourself. That takes an expert, or access to an expert's skills and knowledge.

I´m just coming back from there, not registered, just lurking once in a while; what a closeminded bunch of people!

It´s a pity that some brillant minds, also members here, they know who they are,have been waisting their time there.

I´m sure they ideas creating problems there can be freely exposed & discussed here for the sake of making FP even better than it is.

(i do not use FP, but i like virtual pinball)

As far as I know, it was a series of actions and comments by various people that led Black to close the FP forums, not solely related to Steve's comments/actions but perhaps the straw that broke the camel's back. Steve did have the dubious honour of writing the very last post before Black pulled the plug (under the Alias of PinballAvenger).

For anyone interested, there is a copy of the last few FP Forums posts as an image file at the following URL (its been stored at that address for a long time). By posting this link, the intention is not to lay blame either way but just as a historical record of the last few posts (it was a public forum so I see no issue with posting the link), what really went on behind the scenes is something only those involved will ever really know. Since I cant seem to post a link direcly to steve's site, (vpforums restriction) simply add the following to steve's website address:

BTW... Greywolf's comment in that file is probably right on the money.
