Hey Fren,

Another great work! Kingpin looks and plays amazing. This is one of the first VPX tables i like the physics as well (no offense: i know a lot tables are for testing and i only tried a few).

One question:

I get smooth action and there is no stutter - till the playmode, where the whole playfield flashing red. Then the all slows down suddenly and it gets unplayable.

I5 +Nvdia GTX 660. Maxrendered 1 in Gfx drivers and 0 prerendered in VPX, Vsync on. Running VPinmame Unified 2.12

Any Idea??

Thx for all your work guys!,

Greets

FYI all my lame test tables have been updated to 1.4 across the 4 tables to work with new build. I think :)

thanks, most of the credit goes to icpjuggla and dark, I just scripted it and did the not-so-fun stuff :)

so when you're battling the kingpin, you get stutter? that shouldn't happen.. You've got a better PC than mine. Try the max texture setting though, set it to 1024 or 2048 and see what happens... it still shouldn't be stuttering and it DEFINITELY shouldn't be unplayable....

Thanx for the fast reply!

I will try to reduce the textures. Although only thinking to reduce a bit of this beauty makes me sick ;-)

Could my version of Vpinmame 2.12 be the problem?? I read to update to the beta Vpinmame from toxie, but i would loose some newer tables i love, no?

I think you're fine with VPM, it's using the hack as the fix doesn't work for EVERYONE so you should work fine with the old VPM

If you try 2048 and it works then you won't see a reduction in quality.... all my textures are 2048 max but i wonder if i screwed something up. if that fixes it let me know and then i'll find the culprit

Hey guys,

Work has been crazy, pretty much all my (few) visits to this site the past week have been via smartphone which is not very conducive to updating the first post of this thread. I will make the time tomorrow however On Wednesday I am leaving for a week to visit my mother who lives 2400km's away so may not get the chance to update until my return.

With sincere apologies,

Loaf

Hey,

I finally had the chance to test again Kingpin. Even the textures set to 1024, the action slows down when the playfield is flashing. I have any idea, what i can do.

Frustrating, because i start to be addictive to this table!

Besides the testing was fun and a great excuse to play ;-)

Perhaps someone with a GTX 660 could recommend some settings that may cause the trouble, or share VPX settings.

do you happen to have ambient occlusion enabled in the video preferences? How is your performance on other tables?

Call me crazy but I noticed that I yet still get slowdowns with highperformance=0 in Kingpin. But I think it's the same as with some other users: I tried to use 2048 textures max and it seem to have solved it. But I have to try this for some time to be sure.

And sometimes the kickers are not recognized immediately - not only at "Ramble and Gamble" (maybe that's really a VPM bug?) but also when starting the first mission at all. It could be up to 10 seconds to recognize the ball in the hole.

I still wonder why the lower captive ball is constantly spinning.

And another very very small note: The standard parking position for the plunger would be better with 0,01 (instead of 0,166667). Otherwise you get a unwanted shot when moving the plunger the first time (if you have an analogue plunger installed). I changed this at every table, that's the only solution to prevent this from happening.

I also still wonder if the weird behavior of the ball on the flippers will ever be solved, sudden stops or acceleration of the ball. I tried every VPX table and it's there on almost every one, one some it's very noticeable and some less - I've never seen it on NASCAR from JP. It seems to be a friction/elasticity thing. A friend of mine is also investigating in this matter as this never happened in PM5 and he told me that he gets better results with higher pf friction (like 0,3 to 1,0) but that's not the full solution.

So why does your friend not report the test results in this thread? This is a VP10 table testing thread, not a download-and-enjoy-playing thread. Helpful input is always welcome. :)

btw: Do not forget to use the LEGACY flag on kickers that are not visible (like the trough).

We haven't figured out completely yet why the new kickers can become so slow sometimes, but at least until then (or even in general!) keep these kickers simple if you can.

Thanks Fren and RYSr,

The detail level was the problem. At detail set to 2 notches from the left or less the ball gets stuck at the criss cross on the ramp and 3 nothes from the left or more the ball flows all the way along the ramp. Very strange and thanks, now I can play!

It just takes a while to test the findings. I'm sure if a good solution is found it's posted here...

Kingpin looks great indeed, it's a very nice table.

But the only thing that I don't like about this table is the physics:

The ball seems to glue on the flippers and the ball has a weird movement in general, it doesn't feel "natural".
