I had same trouble with FP but setting an exclusion to the vbs files fixed it with windows Defender

 

fwiw other antivirus packages are going after them as well

and yet none of them come outright and say the VBS itself is bad

I also excluded the game process as it seems to be a combination, perhaps with how the game is executing the vbs files

In admin powershell window (you could copy and paste the above and just adjust for your paths/names
If you have several betas, you could wild card the process to "c:\VPX\VPinball*.exe" etc
VpinMAME doesnt use scripts so i have had no issue with it.
For FP, BAM needs no exception as it is not the guy loading the VBS

Just a quick update: We finally got the simulated Votrax/SC01 core running properly!  :)

It's not perfect yet, but already much much better for most of the time as the old HLE core. So as we tune it up some more, expect much better speech for Gottlieb and Taito for the next build.

It's not perfect yet, but already much much better for most of the time as the old HLE core. So as we tune it up some more, expect much better speech for Gottlieb and Taito for the next build.

Have you checked out present state of Votrax emulation?

On one hand, yes, it does function now, without blowing a gasket.
On the other hand, a quick listen of wizard of wor, or gorf makes one wish that samples loading was still an option

MAME is still different. It uses the same basic sc01 core, yes, but a lot of details around that are different, thus it could sound worse for their emulated games at the moment(!)

(as f.e. we already have much better resampling in place, whereas they are still, almost 1:1, using the same (IMHO) whacky code for that as >15 years ago).

And it took so long (2.5) as there was a bug in the new core that we did not know about and which also did not affect the MAME games (as much), so i always assumed that simply some low level detail/wiring of the core to PinMAME was faulty (as handshaking and timing is very important for ALL cores and can immediately lead to simply no output or weird stuff happening), but i finally revisited it this weekend as i had some more spare time at hand as usual.

Wish i could try your Votrax core in mame.
Theirs has not improved in many years, yet they disabled to use of samples for the machines that use it, and so you get a voice that sounds like sponge bob on a vodka and reefer binge

They now have the ability to switch at least the resampling, so maybe that helps in the near future.

 

Also, wait until you hear the PinMAME emu, maybe you have the same bad opinion about it, after all its also not perfect.  ;)

 

Especially as Votrax is not an easy thing to emulate, and it was a lot of work for the guy who did the new simulation core (plus additional help from others), as he had to work from the "source" of the decapped chip.

Samples can only give you so much, and for example QBert cannot be handled by samples alone.

I have a few Votrax chips
One in a WOW assembly and one in a GORF

though they both appear to be the same SC-01

 

The one in Reactor seems to be different though SC-01-A

But i dont have a q-bert

 

IIRC q-bert's problem, sample wise, was randomization
there wasnt any

 

On the other hand, i have no clue what Q-bert is saying anyways
So if you play back something that sounds the correct pitch tone and inflection, i'll believe it, even if wrong :)

 Updated LISY support to 5.26-20 (Linux for Gottlieb System1 & System80, Bally, Atari, Williams and 'HOme' Pinballs)

 

Core:
 Fixed some bugs in the TMS9995 emulation concerning port data writes / decrementer / CRU, NSM working now

 Fix init error (for example corrupted first song) for YM2151 (older Williams/Bally and others)
 Slightly improve overall YM2203, YM3526, YM3812, Y8950 emulation (older Alvin G. and others)
 Improve SAA1099 emulation (E.F.O.)
 Switch Votrax/SC01 emulation over to real simulation core (some GTS80(A)s and Taitos)
 Correct handling of Gottlieb System 1 displays (thanks to bontango)

forgive dumb question Toxie but, does this incorporate also things from latest SAMbuild
or should i try this but keep the other one as well, and just swap folder names back and forth?

well, seeing as i only got one non OEM color rom to actually work, AFM113b
And it is not patched, but using an external pal and vni file

And i was less than thrilled with the end results, ersatzfarben nicht zu gut

@Toxie, this does not by any chance support the Stern Deadpool ROM?

Tried Mars God of War and Blackhole. Verdict is that I'm happy with the new one, but, I also hear some garbled sound in the end of game for Blackhole. No issues hearing the speech which in my imagination at least has become better. Clearly hearing Re-entry has failed, ball drains and then we have this garbled sound. Will try more games later on.
