@Thalamus:  Thanks!!! I finally got the pindmd3 working!

 

Here's everything I did wrong so you can skip to next paragraph for correct steps:  I deleted my XDMD folder and reinstalled the all-in-one VPX installer then the 10.5 beta files.  Then I copied the dmdext 1.7.1 stuff into the vpinmame folder.  Then after I still didn't have it working I went back to you're earlier post where you were asking me why I was mentioning the pinDMD.dll file.  So it took me 2 more tries of doing it wrong.  First I made a copy of the XDMD folder and then I copied all your stuff in and fixed my COM port assignment.  It fails at the UltraDMD.IsRendering call due to server timeout.  Then second try I deleted everything from the folder and then copied your stuff in and fixed COM assigments in ini files.  Tried to run then realized darn there's no exe.  So I copied in the UltraDMD.exe and it's config file.  Still failed.

 

So I came back to the forum and read your post once again and noticed you said only remove the DLLs.  So the steps that worked:

1) Make a copy of the XDMD folder so you have "XDMD - Copy" for a backup.

2) In the XDMD folder sort by filetype and deleted all DLL files.

3) Copy all files from the XDMD.zip file provided by Thalamus.

4) Edit the dmddevice.ini and pinDMD.ini files to fix the COM port only if yours is not COM3.  Mine was COM4.

5) Windows 10 users:  Make sure all files are unblocked.  Here's my method:

     a) Hold down shift and right-click in an open area in explorer.

     b) Select "Open PowerShell window here"

     c) type this command and hit enter:  gci "C:\Visual Pinball\XDMD" |Unblock-File

     d) Adjust that path if needed but that will unblock all files in that folder.  I use this alot but keep in mind it doesn't recurse subfolders.

 

And if I remembered this right that's it.  You should be able to start Visual Pinball and run an UltraDMD table.

I had done all these steps seperately and could get ultraDMD working but it would only display on the pindmd in the config screen. I deleted everything and went in this order and it worked, thanks for posting that.

So I did a fresh new install of Visual Pinball 10.5 (using the all-in-one installer on this site) and now my Ultra DMD is broken. Every time I load a table, I get an error thet Ultra DMD is not installed / running.

 

Did something major change from 10.4 to 10.5 that broke Ultra DMD?

 I updated to 10.5 from 10.4 when the beta first came out and my UltraDmD continued to work just fine after that update. Sorry to hear of your difficulties now.....I know how frustrating it can be to have something break and then try to get it working again. Good luck !

You've tried what @grendelrt suggested ? Tried opening a cmd prompt as administator, runnning ultradmd.exe /i ? What happens ? What if you run ultradmd.exe /c ?

Got it working. Followed the instructions Gilrock posted on the previous page and it worked. Thanks.

 

I couple table have ceased working like Championship League and Metal Slug in VPX, but I'll live. My Windows 10 pops up a Trojan Alert every time I start Championship League, so I dumped it.

 

Because I did a complete deleted and re-install, I now have to fix all my "Hide Grill" and DMD positioning settings for all 517 tables now. Going through and testing / updating every table.

 

I've been spending so much time doing updates and working on the system I havent even been able to even PLAY pinball. Guess that's a big part of the hobby. Lol.

This worked great. Thalamus your awesome....also thanks to all others who helped sort this out by trying testing and replying. Personally I did the cmd prompt stuff mentioned and then the replacement of the files...those two did it for my ultra dmd pindmd3 issue.

Hi guys,

 

i followed the directions from grendlert but still no UltraDMD on my pinDMD3, it's still a virtual DMD on my backglass.

 

when i run UltraDMD, i get a black box on my backglass.  BUT if i right click on this window to bring up the UltraDMD config window, the little black box on backglass shows "BONUS 2 MILLION".

 

The interesting part is that this same image ALSO shows on my PinDMD3!  So, some progress there but still can't get it to show up in game.

 

FYI, I am using the Diablo table as a test

 

any thoughts?

Knock on wood, I finally have UltraDMD working as it should with my PinDMD 3. You may not want to do what I did though I shit canned everything and started from scratch. It was suggested by Major Frenchy that I go into the registry and delete anything to do with UltraDMD as I had several entries with different locations for my UltraDMD as did he and then uninstall Visual Pinball and re install the all in one.....I just took it several steps further but I learned lots. Speaking of Diablo, I gave up on that weeks ago and just installed it an hour ago, it runs great with no issues. If Outhere's suggestion doesn't work for you you might want to give it a try. Info. is in the first two minutes of this video. Good luck

Actually. What you did isn't very dangerous. If you use the one in all installer, and you re-install to the same folder path as before, it is actually more like a recommendation than anything else. Happy to hear that you got it working.

oh man, i did an uninstall and reinstall and i still cant get UltraDMD to display on my dmd3.

 

I have $50 to anyone who wants to remote desktop to my machine and get this running for me!
