.....I spent 30 min playing on a table that only has 2 slingshots. ;)

As did I. It's kinda fun watching those little Kryptonite pellets go around and around.....

With few exceptions, the ball at rest (on flipper or plunger) appears to have a downward crawl of about 20 seconds per rotation. Occasionally a weakly plunged ball will return to the plunger tip and have clockwise rotation of about 23 seconds for 10 rotations, and once in a blue moon that speed is about doubled. Also, the ball hops every two secs or so when it's on the left flipper (not the right one, though). Once the ball is in play, though, the dancing Kryptonite behaves as one might expect. Very impressive, mukuste! You must have snuck in another trip to Vienna.....

I don't have any degrees, but I'm teaching my abacus to shoot around corners. Will that help?  :stunned:

Very cool.  I messed around a little bit on a table with just the flippers adjusted and it was quite good to get a feeling of the difference.  I'm not sure if it's too much ball spin effect or not compared to a real table.  But if I compare it to something like pinballFX2 (which I think has a crazy amount of ball spin) it certainly seems much more realistic.

The more I'm playing with the new physics, the more I like them! :)

Maybe there is a lot of ball spinning, I think there must be just a little more friction on the playfield. I have to admit that I never checked that on my real pinball machines (maybe I should mark the steel ball and try it if there is really that much spinning ;) ).

When the ball is in resting position (e.g. on the flippers when holding them up) it's still moving. It should not be moving at all when it's resting in a position.

The settings in White Water for the upper right flipper is not fully ok. It's not possible to reach the whirl pool at all! I tried different settings but I can not find on that enables me to reach the whirl pool...

Thank you for all your hard work! Keep on doing your good stuff! :)

Good that you remind me, there was a request I wanted to make.

If anyone has a real pinball table standing around and wants to sacrifice one ball by marking it with some dots from a permanent marker and then shoot some video footage (the more the better), that would basically be the greatest thing ever. Bonus points if it's at more than 30 fps (I hear an iPhone 5s can shoot at 120 fps!)

I have no idea how much spin actually happens on a real table. The only video reference I found that even showed any rotation was this one:

I was actually surprised how much friction there seems to be, the ball never seems to be sliding and instead seems to be almost purely rolling all the time!

I would do that - but I have no camera with such a high fps! But I have a lot of extra balls for my pinball machines... ;)

On my single black pyramid you see some spin but for the most part the ball is rolling. I have no camera either.

Where is randr. He has a bunch of machines

Any video footage which clearly shows the rotation of the ball will be immensely helpful for tuning the physics parameters. There's basically nothing of that sort on YouTube. High fps aren't necessary (though they look super sweet as in that video above)! Just give one ball the easter egg treatment and off you go.

Not sure you actually see any spin, but this guy has a couple videos that are in slow motion that show a lot of ball interaction with objects.  link

The two slow motion pinball videos on that channel are super useful, I actually used them extensively while working on the physics. I went so far as to count single frames for the Judge Dredd video -- did you know that a flipper stroke with the ball on the flipper tip takes about 1.7x longer than an empty flipper stroke?

I even started documenting some of that stuff:

https://bitbucket.or.../FlipperInertia

Unfortunately, no ball spin visible on those.

I can do slow motion. I'll work on painting my ball tonight...lol

Will paint 2 balls hemi orange.. So can see multi ball also.. 120fps is as slow as I can go. Should be cool

Hey! Painting your balls are one thing...

Sharing a video of you playing with those balls is totally unacceptable

I've found that some recent tables that do funky things with flippers tend to behave a bit unpredicablly. I've gone back a year or so, melon's tables seem to play wonderfully with some minor adjustments! Also digging Indiana Jones a lot now I can hit shots a little bit more accurately.

Balls painted. What "lines" do you want? just segmented? or maybe letter on top bottom?

Wouldn't the paint coat change the friction properties though? Wouldn't a simple grid traced with permanent marker be less intrusive for the test? Let's say, 3 parallel vertical lines crossing 3 horizontal ones? Just a thought.

Ah... yes... I hypothesized similar results in my observations... or maybe I didn't.

Anyways, how far are you thinking you can take this? Will we see the ball leave the table?

Paint will not effect physics anymore than a nice polished ball. I suppose I'll try it both ways. Was thinking easier to see this way

couple "test" videos uploading. I used addams to test and forgot i had sticky rubbers on flippers! i will do more recording but just a quick couple tests for fun
