Was wondering if your board will work with Babcock DMDs?

Here is a video review of both the LED and the Plasma

is it worth the extra 300 and power supply for the plasma?

You decide

Why is that orange line always lit down the left side of the DMD?

Russ -

Put me down for one also!

I'm making a Twilight Zone machine which is about 70% done. Waiting on an ipac and deciding on using 2 or 3 monitors. Now the answer seems much clearer. This is great work.

5 Volt Vishay Part number - LEE128G032B000E90
Crap video I am afraid buy the board works a treat.
Very easy to install and no need to even rotate the DMD to the right direction anymore!
Brilliant work russdx. Recommend this board HIGHLY!

Looks like the Red LED Vishay (218.00) is cheaper than the Orange (314.00) by almost 100.00, the plasma Vishay's are going for around 150.00

I just bought the Red LED Vishay....6 left.

For the newbies and less experienced, can someone comment on what would be required to get this working?

So far I gather you need to

- Buy the board
- Buy the LED DMD (or plasma)
- install the usb driver
- install a modified DLL

Other than that..

What is required for powering these LED DMD's? Just a 5v power supply?

To get games to work with this, is the above all that is required?

If a game doesn't support this, I assume the display would just be blank?

Thanks in advance for helping.

A list of DMDs that I have found -

PinLED Display - Confirmed to work by russdx
The Vishay 5 Volt LED Display (red or orange) - Confirmed to work by me (red one tested but orange is exactally the same board)
The Vishay 12 Volt Plasma - Has the extact same control requirements as th 5 Volt LED display
The Vishay Odd voltage Display - This one requires + 75VDC, Vsp. - 110VDC, Vsn.
+ 5VDC, Vcc. + 12VDC (- 98 VDC), Vrw (12VDC to be referenced to - 110VDC.) Which translated is a pain in the arse biggrin.gif

The odd voltage display seems to be around the $150 mark where the next cheapest is the red 5 volt LED display. The most expensive is the 12 volt plasma due to the onboard DC-DC converters required so I would speculate that if you find a cheap plasma, it will more than likely be the Odd voltage one.

As for the installation, it was as simple as installing the custom .dll file from russ and running pinmame setup - and clicking install. Plugging his board in and let windows install the drivers (had to do it twice so it recognizes the board as a com port.) Then loading up my favorite tables and playing. That simple.
I used a seperate 5 volt power supply as I had one in my cabinet for other toys that I have used, but using your pc power supply would be fine. Just extend the wires from the 5 volts and ground off a molex plug to the DMD (through a fuse). Can post a pic on how to wire it later if any one wants it.

Sure, wiring pics would be great. smile.gif
What is the difference in the two board Vishay and the single board Vishay 5 Volt?
I notice there are no two board models in stock or priced anyway.
I would think the single board would be the look we are going for, correct?

pretty much

xp you need to install the usb driver your self
windows vista actually installs it for you!! bonus

just install my slightly modified pinmame.dll using the pinmame installer

plug your dmd into my board, connect the board to your pc usb

load your fav table!!!

as for the double/single board vishay led displays.
from reading the datasheets it looks like the double board(expensive) uses single smd leds so it actually has 4096 little leds on it, but the cheaper single board version just uses the 8x8 led matrix blocks, like the pin-dmd version.

i might me wrong but thats what iv gathered from the datasheets, any one else have any more info on this?

i think the single led version would give a slightly better / closer look to the original plasma dmds. but is that worth an extra $100?? hehe
