@toxie no way anyone wants you to do it today or even this week or month. I just wanted to let you know so it maybe can be fixed before 10.7 is out of beta, or it is known at least.

@wiesshund I have made some video's to illustrate the problem and show you my settings. You can find them here:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AufWzGqhSj-NhOhrmhA9twURPu-5WA?e=KWHfZ9

Oh and when I play the testfile that you send me first in VPX through the sound manager, 10.7 nothing from the backglass speakers

Well, one thing i notice in what you showed me is you have windows set as 7.1 but then have it set to a 6.0 speaker configuration
The backbox in 10.7 is going to adhere to DDS standard

Your Center channel is not present

Which, i am betting, is where sounds you assign to backbox, which may be MONO, are going.
The demo table i put up for you.
Did you have table sounds, bumpers, kickers etc, but no scoring bells, or reel motor sounds out of the backbox?

Because in your video, when you say "Works perfectly" and you are playing that audio file from windows itself outside of VPX
It is not working perfectly at all, you are missing sounds that are not playing back.

I am curious, if you plug in a temporary center speaker of any sort, and set it any place.
and turn the other speakers back on in windows, do you suddenly hear the missing sounds?

@wiesshund I already tested this theory by using APO to mix in the center channel both to the left and right and this sort of works. I do get some sound out of the backbox, but the problem is that all the sound also comes out of the exciters and you could hear on the video how very bad that sounds. Like a big spring that is constantly being hit with something. So that is no solution.

But Toxie already replied he would look into this so maybe we wait until he comes up with something.

Today I also called a friend of mine which has about the same setup and he upgraded to 10.7 on my request and he has exactly the same problem.

Anyways really appreciate your thinking with me.

edit: regarding the test file, i obviously know that I cannot hear the sounds that are going to speakers that I have not connected, but I do hear the sounds that I have speakers for perfectly. Not from VPX but from Windows itself to be absolutely clear.

Yea, i did not like APO, i looked at it once for something else, and kind of got similar results of things bleeding to places that were not where i intended them to be going.

Ok, so, as you have a center channel but do not
(What i mean by that is, you have 7.1 selected, so center is available to the DAC for processing, but you have the channel disabled, so nothing will physically come out of it)

Sticking with the demo table that i shared, simply since i know what sounds are in it and their formats.

If you open it, and open sound manager
And take fx_bumper1
click position and volume
set to backbox
Push slider full to rear
Push panner full to left, or right

Any noise?
And if no, then if you enable the center, even though not plugged in, and still have it set as above in sound manager, and have your VPX audio settings just as they are now
Any noise then?

Should be noise in at least one of those scenarios, which you could use as an imperfect work around.

Because the one thing that i notice that it does do, which required me removing some speakers (I cant just turn them off as i use digital output)
is when sound is set to backglass, and sound contains less than 3 discrete channels
Sound goes to Center Channel (which you do not have)

Even if sound is stereo WAV, via backglass it is translated as CENTER

If you hard pan it, it will force it elsewhere, in your case, should be out one of your backbox speakers.
Now that part kinda aint right.
I get what it is doing, but it should be able to look at the media type, and over ride the output method, with out hampering the ability
to output something that is encoded to actually come out that way.
if channel count < 3 then output_as_stereo (which probably is not remotely the the code LOL)

Or if that is for some reason, not feasible, I wonder if it would be possible to include a 10.6 "Like" backbox audio routine in 10.7 and have it user selectable
and simply give the user the option of choosing to use the old stereo only backbox audio, or the new multi channel capable backbox

and yet still retain the ability to read the audio file types that 10.7 can?

That way, if i do a table that uses, say 6 channel or 8 channel backbox material
and you are only using a 4 speaker or 6 speaker or some other custom arraignment, you're not playing my table wondering why half the sounds are missing or cut out etc.

In my case, i have all 8 speakers, in yours, you are using only 6
We should be able to play the same table, and hear the same sounds, even if they come out a bit different?

I could custom encode all your backbox sounds based on your audio config, or show you how to, and they would play for you flawlessly
but i dont think you nor i want to go doing that for what might be 600 tables, or more.

Redoing my EM tables to 7.1 was fun for the 1st 2, then tedious.
Fun to play, but tedious as hell to re-encode the audio

I have a feeling that he is routing the Center via APO - which you don't like but almost everyone else is using.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Do you know why it bleeds center into his other speakers, and how he could use it and not have it do that?

No, I was not aware of some of your findings for 10.7 and that is the only system I've got that has 7.1 now.

@wiesshund I appreciate your very elaborate answer and also the fact that you are trying to find the problem, but I really think we should wait for the findings of Toxie. In 10.6 there is no bleed at all to other speakers and I am NOT actively copying the center speaker to left and right. I just tested that once. On the video's I have shared, APO is not activated at all.

In my opinion this can simply be solved in the handling within VPX itself, as it was (and is) working very good in 10.6. It would also solve this for everybody that is encountering this problem.

The solution that I am using at the moment is, that I make a new emulator in Pinup Popper and I just run the original tables with that. It would be nice if this gets sorted in 10.7, also for future tables that can taka advantage of the new fuctionality of 10.7, but for now it is a feasable workaround.

Hi, "Cactus Canyon TTNZ 2.0" no longer starts with 4307 (and maybe prior to).

It hangs in these 3 lines (see error in attached files), and then stops:

Line 50 - LoadVBSFiles "02800000", "WPC.VBS", 3.52
Line 76 - vpmInit Me

Line 178 - Controller.Stop

Save your table again for back up. Sometimes my table won't work after saving. I had to use a new table and then move all to that so it will work again. I think it get hang after saving.

BAD suggestion ... VP is going forwards - not backwards in time. Get the updated and improved script instead. https://github.com/s...pxtable_scripts for a whole lot of them, Direct link to the table in question : https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sverrewl/vpxtable_scripts/master/Cactus%20Canyon%20(Bally%201998)%20TTNZ%20v2.0.vbs - already has DjRobX's P-ROC fixes and Toxies VP10.7 fixes too. Please stop suggesting fiddling about with the scripts that are distributed with VP.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Hi, when I update to the later versions of VPX 7 beta, I get "pinball missing" on alot of tables, for instance Addams Family. Any idea why? If I roll back to VPX 6 final or the earlier version of VPX 7 beta, it works fine. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
