Okay first AVG throws up an alert. BAM was working on my machine with an exception added for FPloader.exe. When I tried to add the latest version AVG hit on it and promptly purged my existing FPloader.exe.  Now I don't have a working FPloader and even when I add an exception for it I still count install or copy the new one over.  I either get an AVG Trojan alert as mentioned before or my system says I need permission and I am logged in as ADMIN.  Anyone having this problem or have a solution?

Get rid of AVG. It's getting in the way of pinball. It's one or the other. We're at war, son. Pick a side.

you can add exceptions in Avira Anti-Virus.

Click on the tray icon, go to "Free Antivirus".

-> "System Scanner" -> configuration

-> System Scanner / Search / Exceptions (I'm translating from a German installation so it might not be the exact wording)

there you can add files/folders that the scanner should ignore.

edit: hmmmm, just tried that and had no luck... still reports a false virus infection when I try to run BAM :-/

edit2: ok, you will have to do the same thing for the real time scanner... add the BAM Directory to the skipped objects and it works again.

I have tried this now, as well as with my STEAM directory (where there seems to be a false positive too), adding both that and the BAM directories to Avira's exceptions, including the real-time scanner and both files, fploader.exe and the STEAM Webhelper.exe are both being detected as virii by Avira and can't be accessed. P{lease, help (some more?

No, wait, BAM's FPloader is finally working, after a little more tweaking of Avira AV. Thanks for the help! All I gotta figure out now is how to get STEAM's SteamWebHelper.exe to access the internet. Maybe it's something to do with my Windows Firewall, as although an Avira alert window pops up, it gives no mention of 'what' virus. malware or unwanted program is stopping it was accessing the internet - any idea, anyone?

The only solution I can think of, is changing your AV from AVG to Avira, with which I just got fploader to run without any issues.

I keep getting a network error failure on download.

... and it still works for me.

anyway here are links to mediafire:

BAM-setup.exe:  https://www.mediafir...mqtq47dj94tj3lj

My guess: Antivirus program deletes file when you download. Try to download ZIP version.

BAM update.

New "FPLoader.exe". Antivirus programs should not detect virus in BAM anymore.
Finaly i do what real viruses do: i encrypted part of code, which for AV programs looks like virus.

New "Kinect.dll".
- with old version sometimes, when BAM menu was visible and Kinect was used there was huge FPS drop.
- with skeleton tracking - no more weird cam position when tracking is lost.

i have another BAM.dll "beta" for performance testings in BAM new renderer:
This version have one little more complicated program used to replace 6 others.
Goal is to reduce number of program switches.
In my own tests it is quite good thing for Radeon users. On R7 260X i get on many tables +15% more FPS.
... and -3-5% FPS drop on nvidia geforce 320M on my laptop and 9600GSO on desktop.
I wonder if that new bigger shader program works better only on Radeons or on all modern mid/high-end cards.

Please note:
- it works only with New Renderer
- if You use postprocessing (like SSAO) increase in performance will be smaller

Hello ravarcade and thanks for BAM !

Just discovered your project, read all pages of this thread

Still planning my build for a mini pinball

Wanted your advice about what technology to use

I have a kinect I don't use anymore, but I'm ready to go the dual PS3eye option. Seems RandR don't sell kits anymore.

What would you advise ? I opened my ps3 eye yesterday and it was the wrong kind so I guess I should buy from peauproductions ?

Also, do you think BAM will be compatible with a small build ? Like 10" screen for backboard and 15 - 16 " inch screen for playfield ?

Thanks !

Why don't you use your kinect if you already have one? I'm going to use it too for my cab.

Check out my cabinet build log: http://virtual-pinball.blogspot.co.at/

I read many times dual ps3eyes HT was much more accurate than kinect, and that kinect needed some distance from the player

since my pinball might be pretty small I'm afraid it would lack accuracy, hence my question

also, I guess embedding 2 ps3eyes in the cabinet (like where the speakers usually are) would be easier than putting a kinect (on top of the backboard ?)

Yet, since it seems to be hard to find IR-removable ps3 eyes in europe, I'm exploring all options

@letraitplat:

Here is list of parts:
1. lenses (2x)
2. mouting/holders for lenses (2x)
3. ir light pass filters (2x or 4x)
4. ir leds (5x or 6x):  SFH485P (calibration board need 4x, on hat/glasses 1 or 2). BAM can trace 2 leds. It is used to find position for both eyes and detect all head tilts/rotation, Two leds is usefull for stero 3d and for "fun". When i play, it is not usefull: i don't tilt/rotate head - "my eyes are almost always in paralel to table edge"
5. 100 ohm 0.5W trimmers (2x)
+ wires + battery pack/holder +old dvd box

First 3 positions are used to replace orginal lenses in PS3 cams.

--------------------

There is one more problem. Cams have ~70deg view angle. If cams will be ~0.7m away from you, then you will have ~0.2 - 0.3m move radius from default start position. With small display please don't expect good feel of depth. If you have Kinect, try it first. This way you will know what to expect.

Hey Ravarcade

Thanks for the list, I know what I'll need then :)

To be honest my pinball cabinet might be even smaller than that, the distance between the lens and the player might be something around 50-60 cm

You think kinect would be more appropriate in this case ?

Thanks

@letraitplat: No. I recomend Kinect only to check if size of screen is ok. With Kinect there will be a lot of problems. First, Kinect for xbox360 have minimal distance to player ~80cm. You won't be able to use it. Kinect for Windows (with 2x higher price) will work. It have minimal distance ~30 cm. Second problem: Kinect is "big" (when you compare it to small cab), third problem: Kinect require fast cpu (best is quad core i5).

My Future Pinball installation directory is C:\Hyperspin\Emulators\Future Pinball instead of C:\Games\Future Pinball , since I'm using Hyperspin (not Hyperpin)

I've installed BAM in C:\Hyperspin\Emulators\Future Pinball\BAM\

If I try to manually open FPLoader.exe from there, Future Pinball doesn't load.  Nothing happens.

I did a test and copied all my files and subdirectories from C:\Hyperspin\Emulators\Future Pinball to C:\Games\Future Pinball\

Then, if I try to manually open FPLoader.exe from C:\Games\Future Pinball\BAM\,everything works OK.

So, if I understand correctly, BAM will only work if Future PInball is installed in it's default directory at C:\Games\Future Pinball\.

Is there any way to make BAM work if Future Pinball is installed in another directory; like C:\Hyperspin\Emulators\Future Pinball\ in my case ?

Just to make it clear, this problem is not because of Hyperspin, since all these tests where made outside of it.

I have been using this for a while with an XBOX 360 controller and the depth of the image is amazing.

BAM also gives a better angle on most tables but the physics are still the same old FP physics..........Shame.
