@kiwi: So you just captured that VPX loads? No table then?
Yes, only VPX opens, it does not load the table.

@JP: Oh man, that one is confusing. In the stack trace itself, only 22seconds show up.
~96% of that ends up in the NVIDIA driver. And there, almost all of that ends up in wintrust.dll (why? no clue! maybe this is just the API to submit some actual work in a trusted way to the kernel??).
I saw something similar in the trace from BlackPredator, but overall it was not only that there (only about 50% of the time in that trace).
But where does the other time go?
There is a LOT of registry traffic coming through ctfmon.exe which apparently is some component of Office that the internet claims can slow down some things.
So i would be interested if you could try to kill that process and try then again. If that helps i may have an idea on how to speed up loading.
(although i don't get why 10.6.1 differs in that aspect :/ )

I think I found out what creates the delay in my setup, but why it does that is beyond me.
I removed ctfmon.exe, and I remember I used to that when I was using WIndows XP, as it slowed down the cpu a lot. I removed that, but guess what, the delay was the same. So I decided to removed everything from memory, an Xmouse, Nvidia icon on the taskbar, so it was less possible programs active. I even closed Total Commander, which I have been using for more than 20 years as my filemanager. And I opened explorer, find Bugs Bunny table, double clicked on it and it run incredibly fast. VPX 0.7 loaded the table just as fast as 10.6. Then I run Total Commander and double clicked on the table again, and the delay was there again. I don't know why but Total Commander added that delay (which varied from 20 seconds to 30 or more).
Here it is the PML2 file running from explorer:
But I guess you don't need to search anymore. But here it is the PML3 when I run the table by double clicking the same table through Total Commander, and this time the delay was over 30 seconds
In this test I did have open Edge browser, but it didn't make any difference with it open or closed.
But still it is strange why there is a delay in 10.7 and there is no delay in 10.6. And the delay has to do with the amount of objects in the table.
I made an empty table, and I copied over 1500 lights, and the delay was almost the same as in Bugs Bunny.
Maybe the delay will manifest also with people using a front end, if it is written in a similar to Total Commander.
At least we found what causes the delay in my system ![]()

Interesting! There also was a lot of Total Commander in the PML report, but
a) it seemed to be overall not much impact from the logs
b) same as you, i would never ever expect such a tool to have ANY impact whatsoever
But why the heck is VP10.7 different from 10.6.1 in that regard??

I did some more tests, and the reason of the delay is because I use to run Total Commander as administrator, to get access to all the C: disk, but then when I run VPX it also run as administrator, and then the delay is back.
To test it I removed the "Run as administrator" in the properties of Total Commander and then 10.7 run at full speed, without any delay. Then I checked the "Run as administrator" in the properties if 10.7, and the delay was back.
So if you run 10.7 as administrator you will probably get the delay too.

No. 10.6 runs at full speed, no delay at all. That's why I thought it was something wrong with 10.7, and I never thought I was running it as administrator. If I run Total Commander as administrator then all the programs running from it, will run as administrator too. Very useful if you need to run many program as administrator, like I used to do at work. I say "used" because tomorrow I'll retire from work ![]()
But once 10.7 is done with that delay, then it runs the table as fast as 10.6. It is only a delay between loading and running the table (or showing the table in the editor).

Congrats on your retirement @jpsalas, you deserve it!
Enjoy, all the best to you sir!
P.S. ..just don't retire from pinball (again)

Thanks Thalamus and robertms!
Today is my last day at work
But I guess I'll never retire from VP
Although I need to learn some new tricks, like 3D modelling, if I'm going to keep up with the newer authors
But I will always use native VPX objects whenever I can ![]()

I think there is a good and a bad side to the 3d modeling
A lot of them look super nice
But some tables, almost the whole assembly is baked into 1 piece
really hard to apply proper physics when a plastic ramp, a metal wall, and a wood block are all in the same collidable model.
Trying to stuff little walls into it is a pain

@wiesshund : That is when you take the model into blender and separate them. But, don't overdo it, too many separate meshes and you will get stutter.
That is also why they are joined in the first place.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

If I take them into blender
YOU better go get a straw
cause that's probably all we gonna have left
and i fear humpty wont go together again
