This is 32 bit version --> dmdext-v1.7.1-x86 - the 64 bit will not work

You Freezy files in the VPinMame folder  -  https://github.com/f...ases/tag/v1.7.1

You have altcolor is setup like this and you put the .pal and .vni in the ft_l5 folder

Visual Pinball\VPinMame\altcolor\ft_l5

Looking good - thanks

Got Fish Tales to load - the colour DMD is amazing on this one.  Tried a few which are a little disappointing (Indiana Jones and Simpsons Party) which are nowhere near as colourful as Fish Tales and look like the old purple / orange look before

The colour pics on Indy look amazing and nothing like mine on the VPUniverse site, so not sure if I have done something wrong??

Good to see you have it working

Sure some will be more colored then others ( Some are also not finished ) but it is a huge task and can take hundreds of hours

Just like making some of the game

Lots of info

Can appreciate the amount of work that goes into it. Defo going to send a donation.

There is a YouTube of the colour DMD of Indiana Jones that looks nothing like mine, so may have another go to understand what I have done wrong?

BTW, no cab, just using a normal desk top PC and a monitor to play these.

Make sure this file is named like this before you zip it up --->  mtl180hc.bin

RE-name zip to ---> mtl_180hc.zip

Quick question....

Do these colourised DMD's only working using Virtual Pinball set-ups? I'm using a standard desktop PC to play. However I also use some Future Pinball tables and also Farlights Pinball Arcade. Can these be linked to work with them?

I guess not but thought I would ask

Couple of quickie questions....

1. The pinball download packs include pinball 915, 994 and x - is there any particular one I should be using (only using a desktop pc) is pinball X just for cab set-ups? Can't see to get many working using that one or the resolution is all wrong

2. Managed to get some of the colour DMDs working by downloading the ones available from - Pin2DMD Colorizations - Virtual Pinball. However some comments in this thread mention colour DMDs for ones not available on there, i.e Twilight Zone. Are these available somewhere else? Unsure where these are found.

Afternoon everyone,

I managed to get everything setup and working :)  thanks to all the great tips in this thread.  I did have a few that would only display in the default "system" color and finally figured out that the files in the altcolor folders were incorrectly named. the .pal and vni files had names like  TFTC_ColorDMD_1.0.pal i just renamed then to pin2dmd.pal or .vni and they all worked.

The only issue i now have is when i initially setup the table using F1 to change the settings to use ext dll and color and then restart the table  VP  loads the table and the back-glass but not the rom . so i quit and VP locks up and i have to kill it and restart VP.

Once restarted i reload the table and evertyhing works great. Is there something i need to setup somewhere permissions wise  to not crash VP ?  or something else i need to do ?

thanks

Bruce

F3 to restart ROM is imperfect at best, and not really the best way if changing from VPM to Ext DLL
make changes, click OK, then quit to editor and relaunch table

F3 attempts to reboot the ROM, but it does not reinitialize the table script
so any important things done in table init wont happen a 2nd time

If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i don't have any way to receive it anyways

Hi all.

I'm new around these parts. Been messing around with Visual Pinball off and on this week for the first time. It's had it's trials and tribulations to be sure. Last night I decided to get color dmd going. I followed this video http://www.youtube.c...doYUK36w&t=853s

And dowloaded the altcolor files. But can't seem to get it working. I've been reading and rereading this thread to see if I'm missing anything. But it's now 4:45 AM and my brain doesn't want to work anymore. lol. Here's a link of what's happening when I run a table. https://imgur.com/a/4FDBpqv The screenshots inside are any relevant images of the settings and folder layout to help. I apologize if an Imgur link is not the best way to show screenshots, but again it's nearly 5 AM. So I couldn't have the energy to find another method. Any help you can provide or suggestions. Greatly appreciated and I'll check back here when I get up later today. I'm frazzled and exhausted and I think some fresh eyes and brains will help see what I cannot.

Best to you all.

Vexed

First and foremost. Make sure you are running the 32bit -sc- version of pinmame. https://github.com/v...runs/2033211872

You need a github account in order to actually get to those newly compiled versions.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Reconfirmed. I do have the 32bit version. I reinstalled from the files you provided. https://imgur.com/a/Ph8cPmJ

What are the next steps I should look into?

Get proper altcolor files - only one "pin" - 2 - "dmd" - pal file indicate that you are running 4 color. VPU hosts many of those. Important, get the files that are meant for vpin and in some cases you have to create the correct altcolor/<romname> and rename the downloaded files so they are named pin-2-dmd - *.pal and *.vni. (without the - (minus) ... noah won't accept me writing that word in these forums)

Doing that and pressing F1 - making sure that use external and color is ticked for pinmame and you should be fine. You have to enabled that for every rom you want to run with color. Of course, use 32bit version of freezy too.

  • do i put the roms in the matched folder?  -- No
  •
  • Virtual DMD owners:
  • To get Started
  • Download this file and unzip copy the folder altcolor into vpinmame
  • http://vpuniverse.co...olor-pallettes/
  •
  • Enable ‘Colorize DMD (4 colors)’ in the rom setup of vpinmame
  • Enable ‘Use external DMD (dll)’ in the rom setup of vpinmame or (F1) and turn of Show DMD
  • Download latest dmdext version (current v1.7.1) via https://github.com/f...nsions/releases
  • More Info
  • https://github.com/f.../dmd-extensions
    • Copy ‘DmdDevice.dll’ and ‘DmdDevice.ini’ to your vpinmame directory.
    • NOTE:  If you are a Virtual DMD owner you should not install dmdext… just move the two files described here.

Followed the above even with dmdext 2.1, so easy, and yet what a difference to the DMD, cheers.

If anyone is reading through this thread and is stumped on how to get coloured DMDs , just follow what i have quoted here from Outhere.

(its far easier than i realised to install/work)

If I have a 64 bit pc why would i download something that's meant for a 32 bit pc?, IE x86? The person who uploaded the tutorial i folowed specifically said that if you have a 64 bit pc you download and install the x64 bit versions of the dmd software, and if you have a 32 bit pc you download the x86. I'm utterly effing confused now. So I just spent a whole day trying to get this to work and the instructions I duplicated three times over are wrong and counter intuitive?

Simple

Your PC and OS bitness means jack and squat.

If you run 32bit VPX, then you use 32bit vpinmame and 32bit freezys DMD extensions

If you run 64bit VPX then you run 64 bit vpinmame and freezys DMD extentions
And you accept the fact that some stern and williams ROMs may crash or go out of sync due to no working a9jit in 64bit vpinmame presently.

And yes, you can actually run both side by side

you put freezys files in the vpinmame folder

in vpinmame folder you make an altcolor folder

in alt color folder you make folders with the same names as the rom's zip file
in that folder you put the .vni and .pal file
All .pal and .vni files are named p i n 2 d m d (without all the spaces)

.crs color files i dont think the file name matters, only the folder name

.pac files, you will have to ask luck1 as those only work in his crap mess

they dont work in freezys, and wont cause he told freezy to piss off basically.

run setup.exe or setup64.exe from vpinmame folder

click test
find rom and select

click game settings

check use external dll

uncheck show dmd

check colorize

click OK

click start button

DMD window should appear
and if color files are good, rom should have color.

Stern roms are different, you need a .pal file
and you have to patch the ROM itself.
