maybe this could be an answer.... add to the existing form

tis doesn't mean the the builders will fill it out correctly, or even at all

but it would be there no the less.... personally i fill out the whole form now

and add backglasses or wheels to the media pack section (now with VPX and everyone's tables look different in their own rig who would want someone else's?)

anyway its an idea

I tried it with ROMs and media packs, and it didn't work as well as I'd hoped. It's a lot of research for an uploader already to search IPDB for the link, then the ROM for the link, then the media pack.

I'm happy to add it and make it required, if that's the general consensus.

I'm interested in what other authors think.

I think it could simply be a separate page that has a summary of all related links

I.e ipdb link, vp9 tables, vpx tables , Physmod tables, backglass links, roms, media packs, etc

Make it user editable for now and see how it goes

I don't think it should be done at time of table author submission. If I ever finish and upload Nautilus there will be no backglass or media pack in existence yet

Good point on the backglass pending, but I can set it up to be just that. Pending.

It would all be displayed in every download page, and at the top of every Support Topic first post. Very handy.

I could have the links open a pop-up to the secondary download, leaving the original table in the full browser.

Once I get to a PC, I'll split this off to a new topic. Or, if a mod can beat me to it ...

This is the third time you've used profanity in this very thread and this topic isn't in the Big Bang Bar so you're breaking site rules and policies. Learn to be more open minded and respectful like gtxjoe who's willing to make adjustments, so it's easier for members of this wonderful site to enjoy all of this wonderful work that's available here.

 

Just because your a VIP and table author doesn't mean you should be allowed to be disrespectful and break forum rules.

 

Your attitude and unwillingness to change how you do things is the exact reason so many people resort to pre-loaded setups. Please consider correcting this so the majority of members *will* consider doing things the right way.

I'm not building  a table unless their is a link that contains all the artwork,  all the sounds,  all the code references.  Basically do everything for me.

 

funny how the only people that complain about this are the ones that HAVE NEVER UPLOADED A SINGLE FILE to the download section.

Let me just be blunt Replay. I'm not the person you want to get into a battle with around here.. I'll smoke you and I'll do it so fast you won't know what hit you. I'm actually an easy guy to get along with but when I'm passionate about something, like I am with this sight our VIP members and this hobby I'll defend my position and stand strong.

You have 50 posts and have been a member since 2011... What have you contributed to the comunity? I'll tell you, you've contributed nothing other than starting trouble with VIP members in two diffrent threads. You have 50 posts and I'd be willing to bet 1/2 of them are you starting trouble.. Your points make no sense, quite a few of us could care less what you think.. You just ramble on with your long winded posts in circles, by the time I get though 1/2 of your post I'm bored and don't even finish reading it.

I could care less what you think and I'm not going to change the way I upload content to the sight.. This is a DIY hobby, maybe if you sat down and worked things out you'd feel like you accomplished something.. All your complaining about how we do things just proves your lazy and don't what to try and work things out for your self.. Your do it for me and make it easier for me is what's wrong with the world today.

EDIT: I make FP tables for my pincab I don't give a rat what front end YOU are using or do I need a HP wheel or movie. I make tables for ME not YOU.

I share them yes but it's up to the downloader to set them up however they wish..

There's no need to make threatening posts when the majority of everyone's goals align and are the exact same. We're just people that want to enjoy Pinball in our spare time and that is all.

All we want is an easier more efficient way to enjoy all of this content. As it stands right now, in addition to downloading a table, we have to go to 20 different links to get all the artwork and rename it after downloading, so it all matches to make it shine in a front-end. This is inefficient and a complete waste of time.

 

The evolution of VP has already forced you to change how tables are created and made. Obviously, someone that's created a table for VP8 has had to change and adapt for the same realization to make it work for VP9, PM5, and VPX, so what's so difficult about linking artwork so the entire sites members can benefit from a more efficient system?

 

You call this a DIY hobby and yet you couldn't be more wrong about that. I open one of your tables with VP and there's 10+ different authors names in there from which you C&P script or code they wrote into your so-called table. Show me a table where you've written 100% of it without borrowing resources or code from someone else?

 

@32assassin, I honestly didn't expect that kind of post from you when you're pretty helpful on other sites with your posts. On certain FTPs you even have entire artwork setups with your handle on the folder name, so I'm curious as to why you're so against improving the current system which would benefit many users so their time could be more efficiently spent actually *playing* the tables instead of playing the downloading and renaming game.

THIS HOBBY IS NOT FOR SOMEONE LIKE YOU, and that just being nice..... it just isnt, if you think this is that much of a pain or to much work.... you need to find some other hobby... this is how it works, like it or not... it just is... you will NEVER get stuff fully named correct, never ever ever

Replay, are you compuretarded? Noah already said it: top of the page search box, type in the game name, change to download category click the spyglass button and voilà everything you need is there. Sort by last updated and you get the latest and greatest stuff at the top. That's all there is to it, 20 links seriously?? So, I was trying to not post here, but you guys are just being dicks and I feel obligated to jump in.

I 100% totally and completely agree with Replay.

 

There is nothing wrong with trying to figure out at least a damn standardized naming convention, so you don't have to modify every file downloaded just to make them work together, like they are intended to be used!

 

The idea that this is the way it is and should always be is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.  Go back to your great grandfathers horse and buggy.  Why the hell would we want cars that are easier to drive, because... screw advancement and technology.

 

And for all of those that forgot, there was a recommended solution to this to make things easier.  But I guess it didn't stroke enough egos.

 

Getting VP running with all the bells and whistles is one of the most convoluted software tasks I've come across, and I develop in ERP software for a living!

 

Ya'll need to stop jumping his shit for wanting it to be a little easier, there is nothing wrong with that.  There is no requirement for things to have to be some sort of rite of passage.   When some great guys put together an "all-in-one" installer for VP10, everyone rejoiced, because it was easier.  But a guy asks for easier download options and f that guy, nobody wants it easier....ever...

Really appreciate Noah, in the fact he runs a real-life business with almost no free time these days and is still open minded enough willing to change the site for the better, unlike some of the people in this thread which believe since they themselves did things the hard tough way then it should be that way for everyone going forward forever.

Mike... wanting and reality are 2 different things...

there will never be a solution for the having not to rename each table and its elements.... its just not possible

you could have 10 different versions of one table, that uses 1 B2S.... and 50 different logos.... how in the world would this ever work??

 

no one in there right mind wouldnt want it easier.... its just not possible.... 

we're not one company that makes one creation per table, there is no one table, one B2S, one logo, one flyer, one video

that not how it works here......there are mods of tables that are different versions of the same table and so on 

you know this more than anyone.... you have tables that are multiples of other peoples copys of the original guys table

 

again wanting and thinking there is possible answer are two different things

Haunt, I think you are a secret hoarder!  Why would you want 10 versions of the same table?  2 or 3 MAX is good enough. lol

 

And to think that is "just not possible" is not a good way to think, nothing would ever advance is folks had that mentality.  

 

All these files are uploaded to this site.  It is 100% possible to rename any files that are uploaded based on any site categorization or tagging.  The category identifiers can be validated against open data sources like IPDB and would force a standardization that would make all those things you mentioned solvable.
