Seems like some other problem tho because my FP dmd looks just as bright as my VP dmd... I have a regular lcd screen..

yours looks white like brightness is to high and contrast to low..

Hey DrEvil,

Definitely looks like you need to adjust your monitor or video card settings. Did you change the color in the ini file because it looks purple in your pictures and the default color is much more orange like loadedweapons photo?

What color combo would you recommend to maximize brightness?  I am talking about the rgb setting in the INI file

I unfortunately don't have a good recommendation because I haven't had any brightness or contrast issues on my dev system or cab using several custom colors. This is the first time I've seen what you are showing which is why I'm leaning towards your hardware settings. What is the color you have in your ini file and have you tried others? If it is the default color from the install, your monitor is not displaying the correct color (based on your picture) Which I realize could look a little off from reflections and the camera you used. If you changed the color to have a purple hue what rgb settings are you using? I don't mind trying them here for you, to see if they make my system look like your photos.

Added thought:

Just wanted to add, if you are using custom colors you want to target the brightest lit color in the ini file. The program will create the required number of darker color shades presuming that you have entered the brightest. If you are targeting purple it will appear brighter using something like:

red = 127
green = 0
blue = 255

as opposed to a dark purple:

red = 51
green = 0
blue = 102

Maxing out at 255 on a color will allow the darker shades to be divided over the full span 0-255. The second example will create the same amount of color shades between 0-102 making everything appear darker with a lot less contrast between darkest and brightest.

Thanks for the  attention.  My current color settings are
red=245
green=100
blue=50

I am basically seeing 2 distinct issues.  First, with no table or DMD running, I get this dot pattern instead of a blank screen (see pic).   Then when I run a VP table the VP DMD overwrites that and get a great, normal, bright DMD.  But when I run FP with a DMD, the background dots stay and the whole thing is dim with little contrast.

I will try your purple settings and see if I can alter brightness and report back

No problem,

The color you posted is the default color. Based on your pictures your color settings are not appearing correct with your hardware set up. It is going to take some trial and error on your part with hardware and driver adjustments.

the dot pattern is not an issue it is by design. It may be showing up to bright on your system though, it is usually dimmer depending on your graphics settings. The dmd shouldn't fade out to a full blank black screen. Its a dmd so you should see the dots when they are off. I can still see the dots on the VP display as well, I'm pretty sure it was by default? Did you change your VP settings?

After you adjust your monitor and graphics settings you may need to re-adjust your VP settings as well so it looks proper with your changed hardware settings.

thanks anyway LW...

i also thought i would try changing the dmd color, but i cant seem to figure this out either.

i have read this in the instructions:

You can specify what color you want each of your tables dmd displays to be using the FutureDMD.ini.

located in you Future Pinball directory. The ini file will be created for you when you first run

FutureDMD. The format is very simple:

[The name of your next table here]

red= 100

green= 100

blue= 100

so i have added this to my future dmd.ini file which is located in my future pinball directory as stated, but my dots are still the default color. and i have put the name of my table in as stated.

such as:

[familyguy]

red= 100

green= 100

blue= 100

is this the only thing i am supposed to add to get differnt color dots?

does it have to have the .fpt file extension?

such as:

[familyguy.fpt]

red= 100

green= 100

blue= 100

 i have tried both with no luck.

i am running future dmd as always on, but have tried turning it off, then back on to reset it with no luck.

when i change the numbers under [default] to:

red=100
green=100
blue=100

i am able to get a color change to a blueish grey

otherwise, all my dmd's stay the default color... any help?/// thanks//sparky

To change the color I've only had to use the table name minus the .fpt extension.

Example for blue dmd:

[TRON Legacy ULTIMATE 1.01]

red=10

green=185

blue=255

Are you using a frontend to launch? If you are running always on are you using FutureDMD_Relay.exe to pass the table name?

Sorry, I've not had the freezing problems.

hi MadBit,

Are you using a frontend to launch?

i would expect that it is simpler to just start future DMD and run a table directly from FP, so that is my main focus right now.

If you are running always on are you using FutureDMD_Relay.exe to pass the table name?

i am running always on, but i also tried closing it, and reopening it each time with no luck.

i have not used FutureDMD_Relay.exe, since i am trying to run it directly from FP right now.

also, where do i add the additional table DMD info?

[default]
red=245
green=100
blue=50

here?
highscore_1_1=" is #1|"
highscore_1_2=" Rules|"
highscore_1_3="HIGH SCORE|"
highscore_1_3_2=" "
highscore_1_4="Can you beat|"
highscore_1_4_2=" ?"
avg_time_1_1="Average Game Length.."
avg_time_1_2="Average|Survival Time.."
avg_time_1_3="Most Balls Drained in.."
avg_time_1_4="Can you last longer than?.."
PosScreen=1
PosX=3223
PosY=94
SizeW=760
SizeH=276
Orientation=0
Mirror=0
here?

anywhere i feel like putting it?

do i have to add all this stuff too?

highscore_1_1=" is #1|"
highscore_1_2=" Rules|"
highscore_1_3="HIGH SCORE|"
highscore_1_3_2=" "
highscore_1_4="Can you beat|"
highscore_1_4_2=" ?"
avg_time_1_1="Average Game Length.."
avg_time_1_2="Average|Survival Time.."
avg_time_1_3="Most Balls Drained in.."
avg_time_1_4="Can you last longer than?.."
PosScreen=1
PosX=3223
PosY=94
SizeW=760
SizeH=276
Orientation=0
Mirror=0

any ideas? thanks for your help

here? <---- This is where my table configs start

Since you are launching from FP directly with FutureDMD always on try opening up a command prompt. Go to the directory you have FutureDMD installed and execute FutureDMD_Relay.

FutureDMD_Relay table="Name of Table" close=1

Then launch the table from FP. I'm not at my home computer so I may not have all the syntax correct. I'll try when I get home.

It will execute then close. What this does is it tells FutureDMD to lookup the config for that table. You then need to launch the table in FP. This is all handled if you use a frontend like Pinballx.

I hope this helps.

hi MB, i  follow what you are saying.

 i understand that there are a few steps:

1 open future DMD

2 open future pinball

3 open desired table

4 run future DMD relay so it can check MY settings for the table in the future DMD.ini

(how does it know which table i will be using?)

do i have to edit the table script?

5 run table

are these steps in the correct order?, because i couldnt get the color change with this order.thanks/sparky

hi MB, i have just set it up to launch with hyperpin, i think i finally got it changing colors.

thanks for your help.

the reason i was reluctant to set it up with HP, is because i get a freezing problem when i run future DMD.

it freezes my whole system.

so i may have to undo what i finally got working, but at least i got the COLORS figured out.

NOW, Why is my system FREEZING with FutureDMD?////

thanks/sparky

I can't get this running.  I'm using PinballX, with the settings as described in the PDF.  It starts FutureDMD (its window appears), then starts FP.  Then FP crashes with an error "Stride: 0"

Any ideas?
