Thank you so much, guys!

I realized and someone pointed out at the Hyperpin forum that the back legs were installed too high, at the same level as the front ones. The cabinet's leg holes came pre-drilled and I realized the problem when I assembled it. I flipped the internal back metal pieces and added an additional hole so now the legs are in the right place, improving the viewing angle and looking more like the real deal now!

I also added the front buttons. I copied the exact position for the "start" and "launch" buttons from my Monster Bash and only added the other 3 buttons.

Thank you kruge99!

Here's some of the progress I made tonight:

- Added channel between back box and cabinet, just enough for a few cables to feed into the back box.
- Added metal bars to hold it in place, like in the actual pinballs. It feels rock solid now.
- Added back clip to hold the back box
- Backbox TV mount done and easy to take apart if necessary. Feels sturdy as well.
- RGB/flasher bar redesigned. I had the idea to make the flashers recessed and added a Lexan "glass" to cover the whole bar. This way I believe I'll get three things I want:

1) a Rango artwork printed in translite that will cover the whole bar and possibly two characters or similar at the very corners, covering the flashers, so they come to life when the flashers fire!
2) reduce the intensity of the flashers behind the artwork, that can be quite blinding sometimes :)
3) it will add a nice reflexive surface to propagate the lights

you may want to try the newer led flashers for that backbox

they are much lower in temp then the normal flasher lights

and since they are colored already they look ultra cool too!

and I think it's odd that the leg holes were drilled out too high on the cab

maybe you should tell the cab makers about that?

so they can fix that for their future cab sales

looking great so far!!

Thank you ICPjuggla!

Thank you faralos! Yeah, I'll let the cab maker know about the drill/holes being wrong. The thing is, I asked him to do that as a favor and he agreed since they were running late with my order, but I didn't expect it to be in the wrong place and trusted their expertise since it's their business. They also made me a custom backbox, an inch wider so I could fit my 32" without additional wood work, all with no additional cost, which was very nice of them! Also, they did a great job on routing the big panels. They fit perfectly and the wood is good quality as well. Other than the holes, I also re-made both panels for the back box, using better quality wood and also because I didn't like the layout of the vents. Because of the way the back panel for the cabinet covers the side panels, still revealing a strip from the sides, in order to make the back door I needed to cut the side lids, attach it to the main cabinet and then add the door. So, yeah, some redo needed because I wanted everything customizable to my taste and there's no other way to do your way than doing it yourself :D

About the flashers, those ones I got from ebay. I got them amber color, so it's not like a flashlight. It's very warm and nice, but kinda strong, so I'll bury them a little! :D

Nemo, thank you so much! Yes, every time my wife comes to the garage she talks about that awesome smell of freshly cut wood. I'll miss it once I'm done :(

Wonderful job so far! Top quality work.

So I gotta ask...what kind of camera are you using to shoot these pics? There is a lot of blurring in the images and I'm trying to figure out if it's just that you're using a less than stellar camera, or if maybe you're just a bit aggressive with the aperture (depth of field).  Just curious...  :)

Man, you've really got me motivated to get going on my cab soon.  Can't wait!

Hi,

i’m very impressed by your crazy pinball!

Actually I’m building my first visual pinball cabinet starting from a early ’70 original pinball cabinet (less expensive!!).

I’m trying to setup up my pc to get the best results but i cant avoid slutters in visual pinball.

I bought more or less your same pc and exactly the same nvidia video card.

I think my problemi s the video card driver version. I would like to know which driver you used and if you have some particular setup in your pc!

By the way, really nice pinball!

Gamester,
ha! Good question man. I actually have a 5D Mark II and plenty of sweet L lenses, but I love it too much to bring it to the dusty garage, so I normally use my Iphone and the Hipstamatic app with lens and film for food photography, so it adds this very blurry filter to the sides, kinda of a very strong fake DOF :)
But the first pics were all taken with my 5D and so are those ones in this post. Thanks!

gladior,
thanks for your words! You know, if I try to run two monitors from the same card it gets sluggish in some tables during multi-ball, but as soon as I switch back to single monitor things speed up a lot and it runs pretty smooth. So, I would say, you can use this very same card for the playfield and get a cheap one that can drive the other TV. That's what I'm planning. since the back box tv doesn't need a lot of horse power just to display static images and flashing lights :)

Woodwork is done!
Thanks to my amazing wife, who kept our 2 year old busy while I worked on this over the weekend, not only I managed to finish all cuts and assembling, but I also finished the wood filler/putty job and sanded the whole thing!

A very few details left and I will probably start priming it tomorrow or so. The electric sander is my new best friend. The thing feels damn smooth! :)
I also added the back box piece that holds the glass in place and it works perfectly. With that I'll be able to add and remove the glass just like in the real machines (not like I'll need to, but it sure makes it look more authentic :) ).

Thank you so much, Nemo! Yep, Monster Bash is my baby number one!

Nothing hooked up yet, just the TVs and computer running to get an idea about how it will look like:

index.php?app=core&module=attach&section

index.php?app=core&module=attach&section

Here's the RGBs/Flashers bar in close-up. The lexan "glass" covers the strobes and adds some nice reflections. In the future an artwork will be placed underneath the acrylic, covering the strobes completely until they fire through the artwork:

My wife changed the layout of the gameroom. She wants the machines diagonally, in the corners. Fine with me as long as they stay :)

Looks awesome Kris!  Can't wait to see it completed.  When it is, I hope you post a nice video of it in action.

These updates are a great motivator for me, as I stare at my huge pile of parts and the daunting task ahead of me to get them all assembled into something like you've built here...   :)
