Sorry I haven't chimed in as I was on Vacation for a while and just got back (and I'm very glad to be). I had some bad things happen on vacation.
But I did play Star Wars Episode 1, Pirates of Caribbean, IJ4, Simpson's Pinball Party & Family Guy.

Anyways, I can do the 16-9 spanning if needed unclewilly.

Looking nice so far guys.

Tom.

I am going to be moving to a new house. I probably won't have time to put into this project for 2 or 3 weeks so i wanted to upload what i have done on the table so far if anyone wants to continue with production of the table in my abscence. I may not have internet access for a little bit also but will check on the forum from my cell phone.

Here is the table file:

Unless someone is prepared to digitially retrace the original playfield step-by-step from the bottom up (I've done this before, it can take weeks), I can't see a 2048x4096 texture being at all practical. I've been playing with the resources we've got; we should be able to make a good, workable 1024x2048 playfield that's accurate enough for our purposes, and that's more than good enough for most people's monitor resolutions.

I think the intension of expading the to 2048 x 4096 was for editorial purposes only. I used ONONE with PS not to lose pixel value then stripped the board and blended the colours, fixed any graphical errors of splotches and enhaced the text. Given the playfield angle once applied it should be good at 1024 x 2048.

The playfield looks good. We need to work on the plastics, playfield objects and aligning the background to the table angle.

Speaking about the background, any suggestions? I took alot of liberties using plugins but if you want the oririnal zig zag stuff it can be easily done. I thought a more modern look might be benefidial.

What we really need first of all before anything gets finalised in the VP editor is the new playfield image - not necessarily 'finished', just correct, so that the posts and the things can be placed on it. The old one is too skewed; drop a vertical plumbline through it and it doesn't cleanly dissect the playfield lights into two halves the way it should. Blow it up to 2048x4096 and that image perspective is still going to be wrong, which will affect the layout of everything else on the table. So we need something newer and better first. That's what I'm playing around with now, but the blown-up old image will be useful for filling in gaps.

Are there any small graphics that need redone? Also a question about redoing graphics: Color wise what is
the best way for getting the correct color. I usually open the graphic up in Photoshop and use the eye dropper
tool to get the CMYK numbers. I then open the graphic up in Illustrator and start redrawing. Is this the best
to do this? Do I make any sense? I've been on and off sick for the last week so I have not been posting.

Here's some graphics work done; a nice clean apron. Pretty simple to do actually, since Voltan's apron is the same as KISS's with some hue differences to its three-colour scheme, and there was a good KISS apron on the IPDB to start off from. Just a matter of correcting up the colours, a little bit of cleaning and filling in gaps, and adding the correct cards. Plunger cover is much the same, but rather more cleanup and redraw.

No, those are finished; they don't need any more work done to them. There's bound to be lots more to do though.

To give you some idea of the level of work this kind of project can require, this is how a 'new' playfield starts off when you've got mere scraps to work from and have to put it all together in Photoshop. Nowhere near ready for colour redraw yet, but already shaping up to be mroe accurate and better than the old Voltan playfield, this is made up of nine seperate Photoshop layers that mesh together everything we have, including the blown-up previous playfield with which to fill in whiteboard gaps.

A quick progress update. It's been very quiet in the development group these last couple of weeks, but I've been forging ahead with the playfield edits, and now it currently looks like this.

will that playfield match up with the previous blueprint? if so we could continue building the table. Sorry i am in the middle of moving to a new house so i haven't had much time for working on this.

No, it doesn't. The previous blueprint was visibly off-kilter, this is much more accurate.

not really sure what to work on as there is not a working blueprint to match the playfield. I was just kinda waiting for a playfield texture and blueprint to match to start building the table.

The manual is available from IPDB. You can extract a blueprint image from the manual and then line it up to the playfield image a few posts above. If you need help with doing this, let me know.
