I now want to make sure that I installed the latest versions of vp8/vp9 correctly. I already have VPinball.exe and VPinball912.exe in C:\Program Files\Pinball That's all I need to do right?

What is the purpose of VP 8.1 FULL INSTALL and VP 9.1.2 FULL INSTALL?

Actually, all you would need to extract is the VPinMAME.dll to upgrade to VPinMAME 2.3. You would extract the VPinMAME.dll to your C:\Prigram Files\Pinball folder. After that is done, you can delete the zip file if you want.

To verify if you did that correctly, run the setup.exe that is located in the C:\Program Files\Pinball folder and check to see which version of vpinmame is being recognized.

Trying a new direction now. I now have access to www.pinballnirvana.com

3click is installed into C:\Program Files C:\Program Files\Pinball created

vpinmame_23.zip in C:\Program Files\Pinball What do I do with vpinmame_23.zip? Extract only the VpinMAME.dll and put it where? Once the necessary files are extracted from vpinmame_23.zip, do I then delete vpinmame_23.zip from C:\Program Files\Pinball?

Those two are basically the same type of installer as the VP Installer or the VIP but only install only VP 8.1 or VP 9.12. I did not say that the VP Installer is more complete than the VIP. I said that either the VIP or the VP Installer is a more complete installer than the VP 8.1 Full Install or the VP 9.12 Full Install.

sorry, my mistake.
installed the 3click and the minimul vp9 desktop execs into the VIP3click sub folders location.
then right clicked on the silver ball to send to desktop.
works fine.

have not spent much time on the vp9full install desktop execs zipped folder.
what is it?
looked for a link in the forum.
do you know of any links to explain the vp909 - 912 full install zipped folder?
have not opened it.
is there something in the zipped folder to explain?

first you need to DL the vip3click from www.pinballnirvana.com
DL to desktop.

then come back here.
in the red menu bar open getting started then essential files.
DL the 2.3pinmame, vp8/vp9 desktop execs, music, scripts, nvram etc...on your desktop.

1. first install the 3click using the browse to C/program files.

2. right click on the zipped 2.3pinmame folder.
open.
look about halfway down.
look for setup/install.
open.

the paths must be correct so the computer knows where to look or you will get errors.
the computer is lost.
check the config paths for roms, music, scripts, tables etcc....for the 3click.
check to make sure they are correct.
they should be ok.
if not correct use the browse next to the configuration that needs to be changed.
when configs are correct click ok/install.

you will need to do this to get the extracted table folders in the desktop exec window.
click on forum just above the red menu bar.
look for visual pinball discussions and support forum.
open support and discussions.
near the bottom there is a search box.
type "installing" in the box then click search.
use the link i provided or look on page 2 for "installing vp8/905/907."
it works for all vp8/vp9 desktop execs for the 3click.

after installing the 3click, pinmame and the desktop execs click on the start menu in desktop.
click on computer, Cdrive, program files.
look for pinball folder.
right click on pinball folder.
send to desktop.
close back to desktop.
open the pinball shortcut on your desktop.
now copy paste the zipped folders for the scripts, music, nvram etc in the proper 3 click folders.
extract them in the proper folders.

ROMS
DL the roms needed for the tables in the dekstop tables menu red menu bar.
do not extract the roms in the rom folder.
**leave them zipped.

close all back to desktop.
start the vp8/vp9 desktop exec.

If you click on that button it will show you the default paths the program will use to find tables, roms, samples, nvrams, cfgs, etc. Click on that button to verify which paths are being used so that when you download tables and roms you will know where to put them.

As far as to what chas is referring to....I have no clue what he is talking about. I'll let him explain that for you. However, I think what you have done already should be sufficient to get you started. At this point try to run the table (put the zipped rom in the folder where the path says the program will look for it and the unzipped table in the folder where the path says the program will look for that) and see if you can play it. If you still have ussues post again and we'll try to solve it.

im not sure what you are refering to.
maybe its the 2.3pinmame zipped folder in essential files.
its been awhile.
if i remember correct right click on the 2.3pinmame or any of the older pinnmame zipped folder.
in the submenu click on open.
im pretty sure there is a setup/install icon.
open to config setup paths.
make sure the destination and the configs paths are correct then click on ok/install to install 2.3pinmame into the 3click subfolders location with tables, scripts roms folders etc.....

after you enter the forum open discussion and support in the Visual Pinball forum.
near the bottom to the left there is a search box.
enter or type "installing" in the search box.
look for installing vp8/905/907 on page 2.
i did provide the link in post 25 or a little later down the page.

I seem to be getting somewhere again!

I am running the Bow and Arrow table again. After clicking on play, I get the usual Preparing Table messages. When I get to the "Rendering Animations..." part, everything stops and I get a Script Error saying:

Line 124
Variable in Undefined: 'StartShake'

Which exe are you using to play the table? VPinball.exe or VPinball912.exe? For this Bow and Arrow table you should be using VPinball912.exe as StartShake is not recognized in VP8 (which is what VPinball.exe is)

i had some start shake errors.
lot of errors before upgrading to the correct 2-3gs higher speed RAM.
what are the specs on you RAM?
is it MHZ or GHZ and what is the speed?

I have tried to start the Bow and Arrow table two different ways:

1. Double clicking on the "Start Visual Pinball" icon (VIP download from pinball nirvana): I get the Script Error saying Line 124, Variable in Undefined: 'StartShake'

2. Double clicking VPinball912.exe in C:\Program Files\Pinball: At first try, I got the error message saying: "This application has failed to start because FreeImage.dll was not found. Re-installing the applicationh may fix this problem." So, I took the FreeImage.dll that I still had in C:\Program Files\Visual Pinball directory and moved it to C:\Program Files\Pinball. Now double clicking VPinball912.exe gets me the sound of chimes and a blank VP editor. Computer then freezes up for about one minute (or longer if I click on anything).

Suggestions?

im not sure on something here.
are you trying to launch tables with the VIP3click icon on your desktop?

sounds like pinmame is not installed proper.
i could be wrong but i think freeimage.dll is pinmame.

did you follow the install directions exactly for VIP3click, pinmame, and the desktop execs?
did you DL all the essential files then put them in the correct folders for the scripts, nvram etc...?
did you extract all the zipped folders except the ROMS?
what are your RAM specs?

The rom should be in the roms directory, not in the tables directory. It won't hurt to have it in both places, but for the table to run it must be in the roms directory....
....Also, just to make sure (and please forgive the dumb question), you have extracted the vpt and hta files to your tables directory, correct?

Yes, I extracted the vpt and hta files to my tables directory:

1. C:\Program Files\Visual Pinball\Tables\Bow___Arrow_VP9_1.03\Bow_and_Arrow_VP9_1.03.vpt

AND

2. C:\Program Files\Visual Pinball\Tables\Bow___Arrow_VP9_1.03\B&A_JP_VP9.hta

Sorry to be tuning in late, but isn't the name in red actually the name of the .zip file? If so, the table and rulesheet belong in C:\Program Files\ Visual Pinball\Tables (along with the Script files and various VPx.exes) and not in a folder one more step down the path? Unless I'm mistaken, this indicates that the table is not yet extracted. (Of course, if I am off the mark, I'll happily delete this post to avoid causing confusion for any other late readers.)

To dennis; left-clicking on a folder or file will show you its contents, but could also start something you don't yet want to run; right-clicking gives you a menu with the option (if it's offered) to Explore those contents without opening anything. Might this be how you found the .vpt and .hta in the Bow___Arrow_VP9_1.03 address?

Again, if I'm off base, I'll be happy to shut the heck up.

Getting closer! I downloaded and unzipped VP9.12 The address is C:\Program Files\Visual Pinball\Tables\VPinball912._Full

Afraid the Full Install came along recently and I've never used it.....is this the 912.exe and if so, wouldn't it belong in Tables?

I finally am able to access the Bow and Arrow table from the VP editor. However, it looks crude and unfinished.

then try to play it using the VPinball.exe that you have. If you are able to play this table in VP8, then I am thinking that your system is not able to handle VP9 properly (why I would have no clue). If you can't run the VP8 table either, then it is definitely a system issue.

Try the VP8 table with the VPinball.exe and let us know if that works.

I'm sure that means the archive (.zip) is corrupt. Try downloading it again and see if that doesn't fix it.

I assume this table also has ROMS because it is the SS machine again - where do I get the ROM?

SS machines can use samples as well, but here is the ROM in case the table uses it:

There's a search button at the top right of every page. It's a pretty good one, compared to some forums.

I assume this table also has ROMS because it is the SS machine again - where do I get the ROM?

Tell you what dennis, let's try an experiment here.....

Download and unzip the VP8 version of this table, which is found at this link:

then try to play it using the VPinball.exe that you have. If you are able to play this table in VP8, then I am thinking that your system is not able to handle VP9 properly (why I would have no clue). If you can't run the VP8 table either, then it is definitely a system issue.

Try the VP8 table with the VPinball.exe and let us know if that works.
