a few questions regarding the PinballY pinemhi script, where is main.js? and does this support the latest beta PinballY and PINemHI?

 

also is it normal behavior for pinemhi_leaderboard to just run a command window and then silently exit?

You properly need an extra keyboard/joycontroller to add all the extra features

I mean its all good on the honor system also hate that I have to devote a letter as a hotkey as I don't have enough joystick buttons to map all the functions of PINemHI, its to bad there wasn't a menu that you could access with flipper buttons while in game or something.

 

don't get me wrong I love that the addon exists so thanks for that I'm just thinking of ways that the it could be better.

It already checks the ROM and that is all it can read scores from

what's stopping someone from blocking the drains and/or adding insane nudge that means they can always recover a ball?

 

If it's the honor system that's fine but it would be nice if their was checks and balances to keep the competition healthy and honest, it won't stop me from partaking in it either way.

There is no way for DNS to validate the table

It's very simple, if you mod the table to be non loseable, then regardless of the score you get, your still a cock biter
and you cant brush that away, even with colgate.

 

Even if he could validate the table per se, he would have to download every single version of every single table ever made, that pinEMhi supports

and he would have to repeat that daily to factor for updates, in which case, you would never get a working version of pinHi because someone is always updating something.

I might start streaming my attempts, although my scores are pretty bad. one issue with me streaming is I would have to rotate the screen because i'm in portrait mode doubt people would want to tilt their heads to watch.

I just enjoy the local score list and the fact that it gives me more reason to play tables I wouldn't really otherwise but yeah would love to see some high level virtual pinball play, gives me something to do with my second screen.

WTF?? who can play the same game for 6 hours, sitting doing nothing for long stretches

Pausing a game shouldnt be allowed anyways. Thats not part of a simulation of the real thing IMHO. How would you pause a game in a bar (esp. with others waiting for their turn?;-)

I think everyone has played with the same version because there is only one that I know of...  if you know other version that interests me (I speak for williams version)

Honor system is the way to go.

The checksums for every table used would become a fulltime job and still people would find ways to cheat.

At the beginning of pinemhi you had to play the same table... that was just too hard to maintain....couldn't keep up..

 

Apart from the leaderboard stuff this is more an add-on to enjoy by yourself....getting to know the table rules better.

Challenges and the badges are for your own experience...

You can also just look at the friends scoreboards...don't stare too much at the nearly impossible hiscores but just enjoy a friendly competion.

 

And just like you said, you like space shuttle more nows as you were triggered to play it.

 

 

Keys , i can't change that as the program isn't interactive....it's not part of the frontend and it would mess up focus and all sorts of stuff if i did that.

Maybe Piple can make something for your frontend...or if you use pinbally you can use his solution already

 

 

I use a small wireless keyboard myself on my cab for the keys....have it around near my cab

I would not be at the Bar, because i work 18 hours a day give or take

if it wasnt for pausing, i wouldnt do a whole lot of things cause it wouldnt be possible.

You cant pause Galaga or Gauntlet either, but i do

If I understand you correctly, PinballY already got that feature. You just need to configure a key for "pause menu" in options.
This way you are able to pause the game and get information, display flyer and so on.

In my script I also implemented 2 menu-entries in pause-manu for pinemhi.
But during my tests I saw that there is a bug with the window-focus when you wait longer than ~5 seconds after you select an entry.
When you want to resume the game, the flipper-keys control PinballY in the background - not the table.

When I got some spare-time, I will look into that.

 

After some testing I realized that you need to disable "exclusive full screen" in VPX for the window-focus to work correctly in pause-menu.


I'm a big fan of PinballY because it's so easy to customize using the scripts. PinballX also has a pause-menu, I never tried PinUPPopper.
But I don't know if it's even possible to customize other frontends in this way, sorry.

yes I like PinballY as well, I'll look into it because lately I just been launching directly into the table I need to start actually using PinballY so if I've missed the implementation it's probably because of that, PinballY is actually my fave of the bunch even if its not as popular as the others it's far easier to setup and offers great features that are easy to understand.

 

I get it that making sure the tables are same is a pain and I wasn't asking it for every implementation but only for the table of the week portion of PINemHI... its just a shame that table files didn't have values you could poll to make sure that we all have the same settings but maybe a suggestion would be for each week you could provide a link to the table in question especially if its something that isn't easy to find or not available on this site directly? I don't want to get a good score using a table that plays far differently than the table everyone else is playing on, in a way that's cheating myself of the actual playing experience not really cheating in a purposeful way and likewise I don't want to sit out while I scour the internet for something that may not even exist anymore (especially true since a pinball site recently closed that housed many files)

 

I can confirm there are more than one Space Shuttle (Williams) tables since I was using one that was different than Mike DA Spike although I had to fix a portion of the script in it to get it to run in VPX (something to do with the lighting)

 

I don't care if you are pausing you could always tape a flipper button if you owned the machine

 

and Ced I found your stream already by searching and followed you and for the most part I'd love to see how everyone is "doing it" it will help me to refine the way I play pinball as you all have considerably more experience than what I have.

 

oh and I enjoyed that Elvis highlight that was a tasty multiball and made me want to play that table it looked pretty awesome.

On the subject of the honour system (which i agree is the only realistic way), i assume no-ones playing EB buy-ins this week? (it's cheating!!!). Think it's the default rom setting to ask you if you want to.

 

Or is pinemhi clever enough to differentiate a buy-in score from a 'real' score?

I think it just counts the first 3 balls, but I wouldn't know for sure because I been resetting the game after 3 balls and not buying in.
