So I assume that it will be released along with a few tables for us to test with?

Any chance of a screen shot of one of the games, just to get an idea of what's to come?

There will be ports of VP9 tables done by UncleWilli and JimmyFingers. I don't know if they have something ready when the official beta test phase starts. But we've already added a new default table with a lot of usefull information on how to do stuff in VP10. JPsalas updates his Papa Smurf original table frequently in VP10 so maybe this one can be released, I don't know.

Just to be clear: we won't release a final version in Februrary it will be a beta version so everyone can start building tables with it but mainly to report bugs. When we fixed all open issues we will release the first final version 10.0 but I can tell when this will be.

Question from a noob or as we say in South Africa a noblitt!

Will the size of tables get a lot bigger in VP10?

Also will you require more computing power to play a table than say if you were using VP9

I'll start saving money for new computerparts to be replaced in cab :-)

Or will this setup be sufficient ? asus P5Ql mainboard, intel core 2 duo E8400 processor , 4 Gb memory ,Windows xp

( all vp versions running good with DOF and all toys ( leds ,shaker, forcefeedback ,strobe .... )

As mentioned earlier, i always tried to keep the new default table running at 60 FPS (vsync = 1) on my super-old(!) laptop.. And so far we succeeded..  :)

But if you enable 4x super sampling and the new ambient occlusion in addition, then i "only" get 30 FPS (vsync = 1) on this old machine..

And there is still room for improvement as we didn't optimize all of the code yet..

So i hope that for the average user, performance will still be good enough..

I implemented the "elasticity falloff" feature (which flippers already have in the physmod builds) now also for the new Rubber object. This means that we can now have rubbers which are appropriately bouncy at low ball speeds, while not making the game go crazy when the ball is moving very fast. I will also add this to the primitive object since custom rubbers could also be made with that. Don't know if any other object type needs this feature.

The return of mukuste is exciting. No offense to other devs intended.

Please, if you can help me with a small contribution to update my work team and continue to make more tables I will be eternally grateful.

I'm new to visual pinball and just recently completed a cab with my son.  It's been a great learning experience.  I have to say, the tables we've downloaded so far have been just great.  (ie: funhouse, simpsons pin party, taxi, medieval madness to name a few).  Those tables feel so realistic, I'm having a tough time imagining and understanding the physics improvements and such.  Do you think I'll see a noticeable difference with how VP10 handles a table compared to what I'm seeing in VP9?  I just can't imagine it being better than it already is which is fantastic is my opinion.

I'm so thankful for being able to experience so many games from my youth.  Kudos to all the developers involved with this incredible project.

Indeed.. I'm excited myself to see the first from-scratch VP10 table being built sometime..

The new default table already shows a rough direction, but i'm super-curious what the artists around here can squeeze out of it in the end..

So just for the fun of it, i also just tried the default table @ full HD (1080p) with my office GTX Titan card (the "oldest" one (GK110 based, 14SMs)) and there i get 500FPS with the default table, 380 with 4xsuper sampling and 166 if in addition AO is enabled, too. So i guess that for the standard cab user all should be fine (as with VP10 you only need 60FPS vsync'ed), even when enabling both.

Dont forget Pinball Magic for me young man :)

Joking apart - I am really looking forward to seeing how VP9 is going to get improved, as in my mind it is amazing as it is.

It is best not to rush things like this out, may as well get it tested properly before the final release.  Testing beta versions in February is good news.

Maybe we should learn from Microsofts' mistakes!  I am sure we will all want a good version to install in our cabs.  Plus of course it will then take a while for the programmers to get the tables made.  I can see VP9 being with us for a good while unless some 'backwardy compatable' mode is in VP10.

There won't be a backwards compatibility mode for VP9 in VP10. You can load VP9 tables but they won't play.
