That's very weird. Does the 'Test' work, so can a game be started from there?

Will this build support colorized "patched" roms?  I just got colored roms working and it looks so good.  Could it support rom_mod or some common naming convention.  Would be useful for other roms like bubba the redneck werewolf.  xxx_mod1, xxx_mod2 etc

not sure if this is possible, just thinking outloud

I clicked "test", and it did everything. But why is VP not detecting anything?

Does this build work for you: http://vpuniverse.co...31-beta-thread/ ?

Never mind, it suddenly worked now.

Also, Tecnoplay's X-Force has no sound, same with Space Team, and both use the Yamaha Y8950, which is probably just a YM3526 with a sampling channel, and the only major use of it that I know is on the MSX line as "MSX-AUDIO".

Weird..

X Force does not have its sound ROM dumped. Space Team has it though. Both use a Y8950 emu already (although the source claims it's originally a 'TKY-2016'), but i don't know how far the sound emulation actually is in both that core and tecnoplay in general.

I forgot to test Dakar again, and the percussion is now obvious. I can hear those drum instruments in the main theme now, and also those pulses and clicks which can get annoying with headphones. https://drive.google...7VUKTuq738FTqVU

the tricky part with these pulses and clicks is that if i reduce the volume for these channels, then other instruments are also too low. so this must be either an emulation flaw at the moment OR we need some heavy low pass filtering on top.

I asked this over at the 10.5 beta thread - is there a way the ROM controlled coil strength of the Capcom system can be included in VPM? Maybe DJRobX has some ideas?

I am sure that the percussions in Motor Show and World Cup 90 are not as harsh, and the toms in Motor Show sounded like sampling instead of simple tone/noise (click) generation.

Yeah, as said, it's either still an emulation flaw or the missing filtering circuitry..

I wondered a few things for a long time:

The only audio that I heard for Pinball Lizard were the startup tones, the coin chime, and the background loop. There is no hissing sound or anything, or any of the regular gameplay sounds, and the background loop in the emulator sounds like a lo-fi piano chord. It said that the emulation is okay and that a sample pack is necessary, but I found nothing online.

Gottlieb pre-Rock pinballs sound muffled and blurry as if it was in 8 KHz sampling rate or something.

The Sterns (pre-Data East) sounded very smooth and a bit blurry, and nothing like the square waves that you would hear on the physical hardware

What is the difference between "DAC" and "Custom"? Both use the same principles (a processor generating the audio and then using a DAC as the output)

Lizard: True, i just looked at the code and i think this is similar to the earlier Sterns, where my improvements to the sound resampling code also broke the (hacky/fake) noise generator code. Will fix that.

Gottlieb 80S: Yes, i know, the old code uses 11kHz sampling/output. I have some unfinished code lingering around for a while that improves the situation a bit (oversamples the DAC a lot and does a low pass filter, too), but don't expect wonders. Will try to finish this up 'soon'.

Early Sterns: The whole sound core there is based on a lot of heuristics and 'magic' to generate the sounds. I do not understand most of it unfortunately.

Small correction: Gameplan is much trickier than thought. I can adapt the noise generator, but Lizard still sounds weird all over the place.

Because of the ROM controlled coils:

I was in contact with Pfutz lately but he was not very helpful...
