If anyone is looking to get the components for these, if you shift some of you cart over to Arrow they offer a free Raspberry Pi with purchases over $50. Pretty nice benefit.

Everything is running great. Next up is the shaker motor. Can I just use one of the real pinball machine shaker motors and wire direct to the expansion board? Which one? Looks like the Johnson hc970 is out of production. Can I do the same with the zeb motor?

Right now it is just the PC PSU and leds. This would be the first and maybe only output at this point. The SSF works so well I dont know that I will go full dof.

I haven't actually tried any of the real pinball shakers, but I think they'll all be fine.  I think most of the ones you can buy actually are based on the HC970, so that would be one way to get your hands on that motor!  And Zeb's is probably fine as well, although I don't know the specs.

If you buy one of the Pinball Life motors, it looks like most of them come with little adapter boards for particular Stern machines.  You won't need that - you can just connect the motor wires directly.  The adapters are there to interface to the Stern main boards; the Pinscape power board serves essentially the same function for the PC, so you won't need their adapter.

And yes, you can connect it directly to any port on the power board.  Just be sure to add a diode.  (None of the main board ports are up to the job, though - the flasher ports have a 1.5A limit, and of course the small LED ports have a puny 20-60mA fixed current.  The knocker port can handle the load but has the time limiter, so that one's no good either.  But all of the power board ports are nice generic high-power outputs that will readily handle a shaker.)

Want to make sure I have this right.  I need a second PSU connected to the expansion board 4-pin connector JP4.  I also need JP1 connected to the computer's PSU.  I can connect the shaker positive wire to any of the JP5 or JP6 pins on the expansion board.  Where do I connect the negative?

It's the other way around on the positive/negative motor connections, actually:

+12V power supply ------(+) Motor (-)------ power board pin

Here's more detail on the general wiring plan for pretty much any output device:

And of course remember that a diode is critical for a motor!

Don’t know about the UK. But highly recommend German Gaming Supplies.
They have been great to work with.

Worked perfectly MJR...thanks! The Pinscape has been so easy to get going once you get everything wired up right. Thanks for all your help!

Thanks, I have seen them online but it's a long way to come for the 8 euro PCB!

Can these mini rgb led amplifiers referenced in the build guide be used with a naked kl25z?

An LED light strip amplifier from eBay. Search for "Mini LED amplifier", and look for products similar to the one pictured at right; they go for about $1 apiece if you buy a lot of 5 or so. These use transistor switches based on the same principles as Zeb's boosters or the DIY booster circuits described above. These are designed to be used with RGB light strips, so each unit has three independent channels of amplification, so you'd need 11 of them to boost all 32 ports on an LedWiz. Each channel can typically handle 4A, which is enough for most pin cab devices. The main drawback with these is that it you'll have to improvise a bit to wire them, since they're physically designed to mate with the common LED strips.

"The KL25Z needs a little chip (just a ULN2803A (50ct)) between the KL25Z output ports and the amplifier input ports - see videos (ULN2803A) ..."

I just responded to your email, but in case you didn't see that yet, I do have some on hand that I can send (as long as you're in the US).

I was reading the forum and believe I have confused myself.  I have soldered the Main board and Power board and am ready to start putting things together.  I wanted to reach out though as I am unclear if I need to worry about fuses when I am hooking everything up to the power board?  If you could help me out that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I didn't use any fuses in the vpin.  I solder in skivvies and sandals.   Not sure either are good ideas.  :)
