I have a question. How come there still not 7z support for ROMs and Samples? I converted all zips into 7z and then I realize that the PinMAME can't read those ROMs. Saying missing. I convert those back into zips using the TrrntzipDN tool.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Note 1: I'm replacing the trrntzip64 for the TrrntzipDN. trrntzip64 can't convert those 7z back into zip. Does the same compressing anyway.

Note 2: I notice that the TrrntzipDN 7z isn't better than the t7z tool. t7z does a better job shrinking down and repacking into 7z. I don't know why people switching to TrrntzipDN for the 7z zipping. It is terrible. I mean you still have to use the t7z tool after that for better compressing.

Simply as PinMAME is based on a old variant of MAME. Does even MAME itself support 7z nowadays?

Also, is it really that useful/worth it? How large is the complete set for PinMAME nowadays (zipped)?

@tictox: thanks, looking forward to it!

IMHO if it's a library thing and therefore easy to add, sure but if development of this 7z support means less development for VP/VPM, then no thanks. in this day and age of terabyte drives, I personally don't give too much of a crap about saving dozens of megs because of a better compression algorithm, at least not at the expense of more important features we could have

i checked in the meantime, and it's not low hanging fruit.. but it also seems it's not ultra complicated to add..

MAME, btw, has it since some years, but the source bases diverged so much that it's also not super simple to just adjust the code from them..

maybe at some point.. .. ..

Newer MAME support 7z. Older MAME doesn't. You can add the 7z support into the older MAME source. Should be very easy to do. I been 7zing my sets ever since the MAME Dev added that support. MAME run those just fine. No lags or anything bad. Gave a lot of space back.

I will show you the different on the zip and 7z.

3 sets = 4.56 MB in zip

3 sets = 3.86 MB in 7z

You see here that the 7z compress better than the zip.

7z all the roms that I did have was almost 3gb. I think I was missing some sets. Could be a little more.

zip all the roms right now is 6.55gb.

Remember I don't have all the sets so it will be more than that. I trying to get the rest of the sets.

Hard disk space is not a premium in 2018 Mitchell. Recommendation duly noted, let's move on while the devs add it to their list.

Yea it is 2018 and things change from the MAME. I know nothing change from the VPM. Stone age VPM.

Not gonna worry about it. Haze from the MAME Dev did say that in the Future MAME will have some kind of Pinball games play. For now VPM. :D

A friend of mine discovered a table that used to play fine with the old vpinmame, but it doesn't work anymore with the new vpinmame 3 (and also the beta 3.1).

The table is Trident :

http://www.vpforums....s&showfile=5963

or

http://www.vpforums....s&showfile=5964

with the rom:

http://www.vpforums....ds&showfile=168

I have also tried the table and I get this error:

I tried renaming the 2 rom files inside the zip with the names vpinmame shows in the window, but it simply showed the same error.

Could you take a look at it when you have time?

We decided to replace the 'old' trident with a newer trident set and rename the 'old' one to tridenta.. (see whatsnew.txt: 'Trident (Newer version, previous trident set was renamed to tridenta)')

On the 'other forum' you can find the new set..

Sorry for the confusion..

I don't know what is up with the SAM builds. A lot of people from another website is using it instead of the beta from here. So what is going on? I went ahead and download the SAMBuild_r4466. Not gonna run this until toxie say it ok to use. :)

I found some clones sets that aren't in this beta released. Only in SAM build. The person didn't get all the Stern ROM's added. I found a few sets not added yet on ether one of these builds. Found on the Stern website.

I wouldn't added those color mods and bootlegs though. I don't know why the person added these. Make no sense to add these.

Sounds like your talking about Carny. Trusted ? http://vpuniverse.co...t&comment=38253

I would say so :) Been maintaining SAM for years now.

SAM support only recently got merged into mainstream. Yes, there is still a difference between the offical and the one he provides. Colourization is still to be considered beta and not in official.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

The SAM build is okay. Previously it was completely unofficial as it included a leaked/reverse engineered SAM implementation before we decided to include an official/new version, but nowadays it's mainly a faster way to get your hand on a nightly/beta build (as i usually take longer to do one :)). In addition it includes colorized ROM sets and some other clones (mainly for DOF support), something which i do still not know yet how/if we should support officially.

Which Stern sets are you talking about? I don't know of any missing ones.

Spike is not emulated yet. Also nobody working on it to my knowledge (at least not via low level emulation, like PinMAME does).

The 3 you mentioned are rather recent changes, so the build here does not feature them yet.

New build in the first post, overall changes from 3.0:

- Switch to VS2015 for the release builds (tested in the wild and seemingly faster, thanks to CarnyPriest)
- RawDmdPixels and RawDmdColoredPixels will now work correctly for Strikes N' Spares

- Update BASS lib to 2.4.13.8

*** CORE/CPU ***
Fix wrong gain/volume of voices/sound effects in Sound Mode 1 (e.g. builtin alternate sound file support)

*** ROM SUPPORT *** Thanks to ipdb.org, inkochnito
New:
Williams: Bigfoot R0.1 (FreeWPC based rewrite of White Water)

Correct Dumps:
Williams: Mousin' Around! LA-4 (now uses the 'real' L2 sound roms. As this matches the LX-1 set then, remove the LX-1 from PinMAME)

Clones:
AC/DC 1.70.0,1.70.0LE
Baby Pac-Man (Vidiot U9 ROM Update 891-16 per Service-Bulletin dated July 11 1983)
Earthshaker PA-4
Embryon v92 (7-digit conversion and more)
Frontier (Gate Fix)
Galaxy (Planet Skillshot)
Meteor (No Background Sound)
