You are not alone about github, I managed to find the download of the version 171 and the demo table for the beta, but I can't find the beta anywhere LOL :)

that link is the beta page

this is the direct download though if this helps

https://github.com/v...ifacts/49593939

and no, i get lost looking for artifacts

my normal thing is sourcetree, and bitbucket, or git
pull, edit, compile, test, push changes to source, and the release package to release folder

never used any of the build bot type stuff, so no artifacts

Sorry for the Github difficulties. I am to much used to it, so I don't see the difficulty anymore. I will do a proper release when I have looked deeper into it.

For the time being, here is the way to get it :

  1. Go to the GitHub Action page : here
  2. You will see a list of "workflow runs", select the top most with a green check along it (right now, it is named "CI")
  3. GitHub will show a page with a section named "Artifacts" at the bottom
  4. Click on the box labelled "FlexDMD" : the download should start !

This is new and nice : everytime, I commit a little improvement, a beta build is created automatically by GitHub. Anyway, I will continue to create clean releases from time to time when it seems to make sense (in terms of stability and not having other improvement waiting in the line, to avoid pushing releases to often).

Sorry for the Github difficulties.

No need to apologize because we cant read the street signs :)

I have a question/idea for you and freezy, no rush or anything

See below pic
fsz3fqd.png

I am sure you see what i am going after here

A guy has a 15" dedicated DMD screen

He is looking for an easy way to throw something on it so it isn't all blankness

and he doesnt want to go making a popper thing all the time, or maybe does not even use popper.

as you can see, it actually worked, though the art stinks obviously

it a little hard to align, as you can see.

just an idea for a future feature, maybe some extra alignments to offset the image as well as the ones to pad it to the opening

Sides would obviously not need any help, it is the vertical that could use the ability to offset it.

In the meantime, i am going to play around and come up with a template that works within its present confines

Oh one other question, i notice that in the new update, in flexDMDUI, when you run the ultra or flex demo
2 DMD windows appear

Does that mean that freezy and or flexdmd can now do 2 discrete external windows?

The 1.8.0 release is now available at GitHub. It has quite a few bug fixes, so I suggest everyone to update to this new release.

Changelog:
* Add support when PinMame and FlexDMD both use the same dmddevice (needs latest dmddevice 1.9.0-SNAPSHOT-r9+)
* Add support for dmdscreen.dll (if it exists, it will receive the same calls as dmddevice.dll)
* Extend API to access PrefSize, actor size packing, label automatic size packing, Group content clipping
* Add an image filter to use a region of the selected image (for spritesheets)
* Add a Demo VPX table demonstrating advanced use (video mode, custom score boards,...)

Bug fixes:
* Fix plugin lifecycle to avoid disposing used datas leading to crashes
* Fix image filter used for JP's Ghostbuster Slimer DMD (some images were darkened)
* Fix inverted red and blue channels in font outlines
* Fix alignment of multiline labels
* Log unsupported video formats instead of crashing

PS: As a bonus, FlexDMD now comes with a demo table to give some usage examples, including a custom video mode. Here is a video : https://imgur.com/YgUohsG

Vincent. Thanks a bunch to you an Freezy for really doing outstanding work on the DMD part of this hobby. Looking forward to try this one out, and making a demo table sounds like a great idea. The latest- dmdextentions 1.9.1 ?? Last I could find is 1.9.0-SNAPSHOT-r8 ?

My bad, 1.9.1 is not the right name. You need the 1.9.0-SNAPSHOT-r9. It's available here for x86 and here for x64. I have edited the previous post with the correct name.

Vincent. Updated and tested the flexdemo table. Just know that there is a large time shift from the dmd played on the playfield vs the one I've got in my pindmd3 in the video mode. So big, that you can't play it on the real dmd. If you want, I could create a video for you ? The first demos work flawlessly and the last one doesn't seem to work at all for me. I only get the background and a 0 score.

same on LCD
The last demo that says press flippers just sits there

but i am thinking that is the demo table rather than flexDMD itself?

I dont have a pinDMD but can you cheat a little on AFM to get to the shoot the saucers mode
curious if the lag is only the demo table or if everything is going to lag to your pinDMD?
though if it is bad, you can also probably tell just by watching the scores move on a real table.

I also wonder if that delay is in the 1.9 build of the dmd extensions?

Sorry, i have no way to directly help test that.

Regarding the last demo : I messed with the working/release files. I have commited the right one to GitHub and updated again the release with the right table. The 6th demo is an alphanumeric demo, not a video mode (just opens an alphanumeric output and renders the title to show how to use it).

Regarding PinDMD, this is more difficult since I do not have this type of device and can't do any testing. Looking at the different post on the subject, as far as I understand, it seems it has a fairly limited controller and bandwidth capacity. Therefore when sending full RGB frames at full frame rate, it will lag / drop frames. It may also be the way Freezy's DMD feeds the data to it. I don't know. There are a few way to go around it, like limiting FPS (let say 12 or 24 FPS instead of 60), not using full RGB and using palettes or monochrome instead to limit the amount of data. I will have a look but without any actual device, it is somewhat difficult. For a first quick test, could you try to change the line 417 of the script from :

FlexDMD.RenderMode = FlexDMD_RenderMode_DMD_RGB

To :

FlexDMD.RenderMode = FlexDMD_RenderMode_DMD_GRAY_4

Alphanum looks great :)

Doesn't seem to be any different running with lower resolution. I can best describe the experience as to that you play the game on the pf dmd, then you see the re-run on the backglass and it is getting further and further behind depending on how good you play. Don't know, but, I ended up with a crash. I don't really see lost frames in the pindmd3, it is just a re-run of what happened. Maybe I'll make a short video - easier for you to see that it still looks good.

Might take a few minutes before it becomes avail. Sorry for the noise, wife making dinner behind me :) You see the delay too going from video mode to the scene. Jumping between the other scenes is immediate - or at least I can't manage to see any :)

I had a look to this bug, and I may have found a solution that would improve Freezy's DMD for everyone, but I'm a bit unsure since I can't test it myself since I do not have a PinDMD device. So I have made a custom build of dmddevice.dll available here. @Thalamus, it would be nice if you could test it and give me some feedback (does it solves the situation ? or at least improves it ?). If this work, I will prepare a proper push request for Freezy to get it integrated in the main Freezy's DMD release.

I'm glad you posted again I forgot to test it on my real pin 2 DMD
With freezy 1.90 r9 or your test - I had no problems with the videos keeping up with each other

But I did notice that FlexDMD is saying this file is not in their DmdDevice.dll when it is re-named dmdscreen.dll
