yes, I did say it was quite easy but I think Scared Stiff has always been about fun, not so much about a hardcore test of skill. I still think the flippers are a bit strong but in the end we figured that people can set their own flipper settings if they want it to be a bit tougher.

One good tip for pumping up the score is to set up the crate, and then get 'double trouble' on the spider before you enter it. This way you get double jackpots for the first five or six crate entries.

Flippers not showing: resolved (cross posted to other Scared Stiff release threads)

Played a few games of this on my PC of late and everything was fine graphics wise. Played this on my arcade cab last night and noticed the flippers were invisible under the boney flippers.

Tried HW off: table becomes too sluggish
Tired the reorder option: fixes the flippers but then other plastics disappear

That's so bizarre as its fine on my pc. I then tried another table, JPS's Spider-man and noticed the fonts looked odd (missing segments). What the heck? Is my 9400 starting to flake up? I was thinking "drivers" but I'm running the same version. So I took a look at the resolution and noticed I was running in 16 bit color, while my VP on the desktop was running at 32bit.

So I ran it at 32bit and voila, everything shows up well in the Spider-man table. I then ran Scared Stiff and voila, the flippers reappear.

So anyone with the invisible flipper problem under the boney reels, double-check you are indeed running it in 32bit color, give it a try and let me know if it works ok now. I had assumed as many did that there wasn't much difference in running 16bit but in some cases, that does not seem to be accurate.

note: this may be inherent of a driver issue. This doesn't mean everyone has to run in 32bit color, just saying if you are having a problem, try this solve out, might fix your issue.

Tried matching desktop colour setting - no luck. Still no flippers.

This on Vista 32, latest NVIDIA drivers, 1680x1050 32 bit desktop.

Edit: now got the reduced version, which works a treat.

In the weekend I'll make the fixes to the table and I'll reduce a little more the video memory needed in the reduced version so it works better on less powerfull computers. Just now I'm in Rome enjoying a one week holidays (and my birthday, today smile.gif ).

Thanks! Now I'm back home. So this weekend I'll start with the changes, fixing a few errors in the script and in the table (sometimes the ball can get stuck under the ramp) and speeding up a little the table.

Awesome JP! I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but can you also make the slingshot creatures bob their heads in time with the beat during the Boogie-Woogie mode or what it's called? smile.gif

and still no answer for the "Could Not Create offscreen surface" problem. Never had that show up on a table in the last 7 years.

It means you're out of video memory. Reduce the resolution or, possibly, switch to 16-bit depth on your current res and run it again.

Search 'offscreen' in the forum search, and you'll find many mentions of this.

Boy, that's a weird one... never had that problem before. Thanks, Noah!

About the flippers not showing. I have seen that if I turn off HR, I guess it is because the reels on top of the flippers aren't real transparent anymore. So move the two "bony" reels out of the screen and see if the flippers are visible again.

JP

How do I exactly go about doing that ? I played with some of the backdrop stuff in the editor and DID get the flippers showing again, but the slingshots were all messed up looking and stuff. I really have no idea what im doing.. I also dont know how you guys are able to disable HR in the table options.. are you talking about AA? thats the only related setting ive found. Hopefully youll just fix the flipper problem when you update it and get back ?

Well anyway thanks for your time working on these !

if you want the boogie men to dance, you have to switch it on in the ROM set up, there's an option in the ROM menus to switch them on.

I have updated the table/s (Fs and reduced too) with the fixed script errors (lanes switches, bumper sounds), and with some changes to the reels on the reduced version to speed it up and remove the back square on some computers. If you dont see the flippers or they are covered by a black square then you may move the two reels on top of the flippers out of the playing area.

I have also changed the plunger using 2 kickers, this saves 13 big pictures to be loaded in memory, so this will also help the ones with the " could not create screen surface" errors. Thanks to rascal and faralos (I think it was them smile.gif ) for the idea of using kickers to make the animation. I had seen and use kickers before to aninate some objects, but I never thought about to use them in the plunger. It is not 100% angle independent, but it will be ok for now.

The normal version has all the full pictures, so it still needs a lot of video memory. The reduced version has smaller images which will be nicer to 256Mb video cards.

I also added the "up" cursor key to the FS version so it shows the spider, but neither the reels or the images are rotated, so they still can be used if someone want to move them to the other screen (easy done in a 16:9 like the ULltrapin, but more difficult if you are using uvp or similar).

I tried to fix the ball stuck error adding higher walls, but since I couldn't reproduce the error I haven't been able to test it.

I think that's all.

Greetings
JP
