Hey guys, quick question:

Is there a way to make the freezy DMD stay on top of the db2s 3rd (DMD) screen? I have a full 16:9 monitor for DMD and made a b2s DMD with a frame and a working "T-H-I-N-G". As it is right now, whoever looses the loading race stays on top and it's the b2s who is loosing most of the time! ALT-TAB'ing works but it would be cool if it would work out of the box.

Anything i can add to the ini?

Thanks!

DMDDevice.ini

change stay on top to true

[virtualdmd]
enabled = true

; virtual dmd stays on top of all other windows
stayontop = True
On your DMD component
it might also help if you edit the DMD image, and make the area where the DMD will be transparent, it might let the freezy display show through it, regardless of who is on top, worth a try.
the DMD area of a backglass, in my experience, never quite plays well with others.
It does tend to roll over the top of things

@Outhere

That didn't change anything.

It works fine on a fresh VPX start or launching from PinballX. In this case the DMD shows up last and stays on top. It does not work when i start the table for the 2nd time from the editor without closing/restarting VPX. Then it takes longer for the b2s to show up and it will stay on top of the DMD. It might still be a problem on other tables with different BG loading times.

Thanks @wiesshund!

No transparency for db2s. Transparent areas will show as plain white. There seems to be no alpha channel in b2s.

I will try the ini thing and report back!

yea when bouncing back and forth from edit to play, that can happen

alt tab to the DMD, then point the mouse back onto the table display and click the table

and the dmd should remain visible.

Fortunately you dont do that a lot in normal play.

Hmm that is odd about the transparency for the DMD

I know i use transparencies in the b2s and they work, i have animation snips that use transparencies

Maybe the DMD area is different, or maybe the bottom layer of the b2s in general is different

Just wanted to report that it stays on top on a fresh start with the 'stayontop = true` command! Still covered by the b2s on the 2nd start, but who cares!

Thanks guys!

You bringing this up is staring the bring back memories from about 2 years ago when I tried to do this same thing and had the same issue

What if you Take that same image use it in a front end have it display on the DMD screen
For the B2S use the bottom 2" be the image in the B2S
Then use a Gamename.txt.res file to put that at the bottom of the 3rd screen
I think the DMD and the B2S image will sit on top the image Or use one of the mini Puppacks and do it that way with the image

Separate ScreenRes.txt file
If you are running the Latest backglass server, You can make a copy of your ScreenRes.txt file and change the extension to res and call it the same name as the game

Then in that res file make changes for that table..

For the working THING lights you need a b2s DMD image. The only solution is to make freezys DMD stay on top.
It's working for now and i keep my fingers crossed that it is working for me on Roller Games, Robo War aso. with the AN displays!

What did you do to make it work?

I looked the Picture again and would be like the bottom 5" from the word THING down would be in the B2S

Do you mine sharing the Backglass

Here is a metal frame that I made. Sorry i'm not sure what to copy from dmddevice.ini to include the right settings for it but it just needs 12 padding on all sides as it is designed to have some dropshadow/ambient occlusion on the outside of the frame so it looks more like it is mounted against the backglass image for 2 screen setups.

style.metal1.brightness = 0.95
style.metal1.dotsize = 0.92
style.metal1.dotrounding = 1
style.metal1.dotsharpness = 0.8
style.metal1.unlitdot = #00000000
style.metal1.dotglow = 0
style.metal1.backglow = 0
style.metal1.gamma = 1
style.metal1.tint = #00ff5820
style.metal1.glass =
style.metal1.glass.color = #00000000
style.metal1.glass.lighting = 1
style.metal1.glass.padding.left = 12
style.metal1.glass.padding.top = 12
style.metal1.glass.padding.right = 12
style.metal1.glass.padding.bottom = 12
style.metal1.frame = textures\frames\metal8.png
style.metal1.frame.padding.left = 12
style.metal1.frame.padding.top = 12
style.metal1.frame.padding.right = 12
style.metal1.frame.padding.bottom = 12

Hey freezy, i have one more question:

I tried to place the AN displays into the Haunted House display. The display windows are really small in hight on a 16:10 monitor. The problem is that there is a black background box around the AN digits. That makes it even harder to fit them inside the display windows. As you know there is no transparency so i can not put them behind the BG image. I can make the black background transparent but then it won't render the glow around the segments.

Any idea how we can make the AN fit the display windows better while keeping the glow?

Thanks, i'm just asking because i love those DMD/AN renderd displays! Great job!

It should render the glow, unless we are talking about something different?

It seems that it does render the glow but it's showing a lot less on the black from the BG image compared to the black of the background box from freezy's. Don't know why. I'll try to triple the numbers for glow tonight and see what happens.

Thanks!

Extract and mod the b2s graphic a little

enlarge the LED boxes some, and then make sure that their fill is solid black

It may help

Two quick screenshots. One with a black background colour and one with a fully transparent background colour (A = 0). The rest of the values are the same.

You can still see a bit of the glow on the unlit segments in the transparent example. But there is no glow at all between the segments (transparent area)
