I have just the one rom shaqatt2 (978k) in my rom folder & the table works fine.

Don't know whether or not you guys will find this funny, but... My college friend Joel and I used to play this one at the Library Arcade in Davis, Ca. That heavy drumbeat at the beginning "Doot Doot Thwack...Doot Doot Thwack" used to flood him with an unbearable amount of adrenaline. He had a great sense of humor about it: "That drumbeat drives me into such a frenzy, I can't focus!" That folks, is the power of rock and roll!

I'm not sure why would this table have a bad rep... I think it is a pretty good one, lot of different things to do and it's pretty intense.

If I can fault anything, I find it to be probably too easy. I'm not too good of a player, but after a few games my high score is over 1.1 billion and one game lasted a pretty long time.

 

Of course thanks for this beautiful recreation, it is a great job. Much appreciated.

 VPX always crashed with this table in VR, when external DMD is checked. So I have to use the standard DMD. But with this DMD the display is much darker than normal. I have to move my head very near the DMD to see, what is written there.

I am not sure how much it may help but
In the F1 menu, you can try to max out the anti aliasing for the VPM display
 
And you could try opening the ROM in pinmame32, and clicking the display tab, and dragging up the brightness and or gama
and see if they give any effect in VR

They will of course possible make it not nice to look at out of VR

I tried it on metallica just now
It isn't nuclear holocaust bright (i didnt move gamma)
but it made a difference on a normal screen, so perhaps it may help in VR mode

Wont be like the external unfortunately, you can make that very bright.
Wonder why it kills VR, that is a shame

Yes, but it's sadly not the only one. I have found several tables which were killed, when external DMD is checked.
And I think, freezy has much to do with VPE. So he haven't time, to take a look.

You're maybe right for the difficulty. But i have never play Shaq, meanwhile for Stargate, i make approximately same score between our VPX version and my real Stargate.. But maybe Shaq is easier, i don't know. Shaq attaq and SG have the same base in real, so i take my SG physics, but added power for Flipper bats... SG have medium solenoid, and shaq "hard" solenoid. Also, i think i will update the Outlane, to make them more "killer" to add difficulty

The newer version is buggy. The Rom search for ball sometimes, but she don't make a cycle to find the balls... The most of time, it's when you make a multiball, the rom don't give you the ball, and it's stuck like this... The only way is to restart the table. It's a bug that exist in real life too with this ROM. So, use only the V2 rom

 
Hmm, interesting. I thought you need both the shaqattq and shaqatt2 ROMs, because it is a set.
It is rather strange though that the table would work with just the 27k ROM when the other one is 978k... I wonder what's the reason for the huge size difference and what is missing from the smaller one.
 
Edit: OK, scratch that... you DO need both ROMs. I renamed the larger one and the table stopped working. So no surprise there.
No need two rom.. The good one is shaqatt2 at 978ko

To get this to work I needed the shaqatt2 and the shaqatt rom, both in the rom folder.

 

Based on posts in this thread, I think we can conclude that there are two different shaqatt2 ROMs out there. One of them is 27k and the other one is 978k.
The 27k one needs the shaqattq ROM (also 978k) in the roms folder to work. This is what you (and me) are using.
The 978k shaqatt2 ROM works by itself.

 

No idea what's the difference (if anything) between the two scenarios. They probably work equally well. At least I haven't noticed any problem with my setup yet.

The 978k shaqatt2 ROM works by itself.

 

 

The larger one is a merged rom
It has all the images for the complete controller
the smaller one is just the difference, just the updated part.
It still requires the other software from the parent ROM for the stuff that has nothing to do with the update

Lets say i had a table, and the hardware for the table consisted of
an audio board
a video board
a votrax
and the Logic board

then my table_rom.zip might look like
table_vid.obj
table_audio.obj
votrax_sc01.obj
Table_Logic.obj

 

So lets say i send out an improvement to the table to operators.

 

Maybe i only changed the table logic, and improves a few DMD animations

 

that ROM update zip may only look like
table_logic_2.obj
table_vid_2.obj

 

It will not run on its own, it needs the resources from the parent to be complete
but it's file size will be small.

If you merge the two together though, now it will run all by itself
you can even delete the parent ROM

More seriously, I got a ball stuck behind the upper right target, and it seems to me that the ball passed above it (it was the first time it happened)

You need the correct rom. I had the same issue till I got the second , different, rom. Look back in this thread for the rom names yo7 need

Not very important, the ball is released after about 1 minute, I was just surprised the first time it happened, I thought the table bugged

 

I also post my highscore (I didn't buy any Extraball), just to know where I am ! :)

 

So, if some other persons can post theirs ! ;)

Tables plays great but I anot seem to get the DMD to stay where I want on my cabinet.  It seems to reset beck to the middle or the two displays.  I had this issue with a couple other tables and I thought all I had to do was add

 

  .Games(cGameName).Settings.Value("dmd_pos_x")=1753
  .Games(cGameName).Settings.Value("dmd_pos_y")=847
 
To the script but that seems to make a change until it hits some sort of limit.  Like If i set the coordinates to be X=0 and Y=0 I see that change.  But if I seem to go past X = 1200 and Y = 1000 it wont move past that point.  I don't know if Ijust dont know the coordinates to get it to show on my second monitor and I am hitting the limits of my playfiled monitor?
 
Any ideas?

that would not be an issue with the table itself, that's a vpinmame/rom thing

 

I would make sure that you have the ROM running in cabinet mode, or it will not want to remember where you put it

 

the roms DMD X and Y positions are stored in the registry under the freeware key
you can manually set them there, but should not have to

check that the ROM is in cabinet mode

 

reg path iirc is h-key current user software freeware romname

if a rom is all messed up, you can delete its reg key to start it over again also
