I don't have a cab but you will need these if you install Future Pinball:

Flipper Left - YES

Flipper Right - YES

Start - YES

Launch (plunger) - YES

Exit - YES

Pause - Didn't even think about a Pause button.  I guess this is more for convenience if suddenly you're interrupted by a call or something.

Coin - YES, although I'll be using the "Coin Return" button on the door for this function.

Special 1 (Slamt1lt sometimes has a fire button that uses this key) - Interesting.  Hadn't thought about this function.  That could be what the 3rd unused button will eventually be for.

Special 2 (used to display some menu systems or other functions.  I think some cabs don't have this but I think you will occasionally use it.) - I will probably use the wireless keyboard to access these special functions.

Optional:

3 Nudge Keys (I'm not sure about these but you might need them if you don't have an accelerometer) - YES.  I have an accelerometer with the plunger.

Music Volume UP - YES, I'll put a VolUp and VolDown button under the cab at the front.  Although I had planned to just have a general Volume button and not discern between Music and Sound.  Should I separate the two?

Music Volume DOWN

Sound Volume UP

Sound Volume DOWN

There are 2 second flipper keys but I think everyone sets these to be the same as the main flippers.

I'll also have a Night Mode button under the cab at the front.

I even tried using pliers to take off the clear plastic top but no go.  That's when I stopped trying because I didn't want to break it.

HappsSuzo has exit buttons
But they are square

@Conehead

Some of those infrequently used FP buttons
Like volume etc, do not need to be cabinet buttons.

You can make a mini button panel, out of standard momentary on mini buttons
and put it inside the coin door, and just label them with a label maker.

You could do that for any non gameplay button really

THESE ARE NICE for having inside a cabinet for doing adjustments etc
small, compact and backlit, and wired so no batteries to worry about.

If i was doing a Cabinet, i would rotate the OS as well, in the playfield monitor.
Pop out my little keyboard, set it on the lock bar make table adjustments etc.
Then pop it back in the coin door, and ready to play.
And, i could build a table if i wanted, at my cabinet, with the editor in cabinet view and the tool bars on the back glass screen
Just need a mouse pad, and of course protective glass or heavy lexan over the table monitor, im not setting things on a 43" LCD lol.

(And yes, if you rotate windows, then you set table rotation for FS view to 0 in VPX and save the table or export the POV)

That's just me though, i kinda dont think everyone does that?

I suppose it is not essential because you could just let the ball drain if you get interrupted.

Special 1 (Slamt1lt sometimes has a fire button that uses this key) - Interesting.  Hadn't thought about this function.  That could be what the 3rd unused button will eventually be for.

I recall that Iron Man has this key to fire the ball at certain times during the game.

Special 2 (used to display some menu systems or other functions.  I think some cabs don't have this but I think you will occasionally use it.) - I will probably use the wireless keyboard to access these special functions.

That would probably be OK.  Menus tend to select stuff like lighting, balls per game, HUD toggle on/off etc.  Personally, I like the table a little brighter during the day and darker at night but I doubt many do that.

Optional:

3 Nudge Keys (I'm not sure about these but you might need them if you don't have an accelerometer) - YES.  I have an accelerometer with the plunger.

This is the part I know the least about.  You might check TerryRed's guide here:

https://vpinball.com...de-by-terryred/

Music Volume UP - YES, I'll put a VolUp and VolDown button under the cab at the front.  Although I had planned to just have a general Volume button and not discern between Music and Sound.  Should I separate the two?

Music Volume DOWN

Sound Volume UP

Sound Volume DOWN

I personally don't use these keys that much on my PC although I have a speaker system with an amplifier that has a volume control that I use a lot.  FP doesn't have a way to combine these keys together.  The music control adjusts the background music and the sound adjusts game sound like flippers and bumpers.  I almost never need a different mix of the sound from the default.  You might check with TerryRed and see how he adjusts volume.

I'll also have a Night Mode button under the cab at the front.

FP doesn't have a specific key for that.  BAM has lots of lighting options that you access through the BAM menu.  I add several lighting options to all the tables I mod now but usually assign it to the Special 1 or 2 key (or I have added a lighting option on a menu on the last 2 tables).  I would think that you would have to do some table specific coding in order to make that key work.  ... But you might ask TerryRed  if he has something like that on his cabinet.

Don't use pliers.  It works better to pry them off with a small screwdriver.  See the close-ups in the build guide of where the little notches are, and use a magnifying glass to find them on your buttons if necessary.  If you pry there, you can get them off without breaking anything.

OMG IT WORKED!!!  It only took me about a minute or two going into each tab with a (really) small screwdriver and gently "prying" at each slot, going from one to the next to the next.  Eventually the whole thing popped off.  You're the man!   :love39:  :otvclap:

Just like real life!  :)

Thanks for the heads-up!

I'm cheating at bit by buying the EZKit from Zebsboards, and Steve the owner said he'll provide a break in his circuit for where I can install a switch that will shut off all the feedback devices at that point.

Great tips!  Esp the one about rotating the OS as well.  Thanks!  I'm curious though....you said you don't have a cabinet.  So are you just playing VP on your PC?

Well, this is rather disappointing.  After finally getting the top of the button off to change the label, it turns out that the "Start" is embossed directly onto the yellow plastic....haha.  Still, it's good to be able to take the top off because once I get the green one off, I'll attach a label directly to it that says Start.  And if I find a red tiddly wink plastic circle that exactly fits the clear plastic top, I can use that for Exit.  I'm being facetious, of course.  I won't be able to find a circular piece of plastic that fits it, although I COULD think of somehow painting the yellow one as red.  Hmmm... :)

Yeah, the pre-printed ones are often printed right on the plastic.  You might try looking closely to see if it's actually printed on a thin plastic decal that you can peel/scrape off, but it might just be screen-printed directly.

Note that you can order the buttons in different colors without labels.  The pinball vendors usually only carry the labeled ones, but if you go to SuzoHapp.com, you can find the blank ones there.

SuzoHapp part number D54-0004-2x (xx is the color code - red, orange, white, yellow, blue, green).

Thanks for the link, and yes, I think I'll order a red one when the time comes.  Also, I did think about whether the Start was perhaps printed on thin clear plastic sheet but nope, it's right on the plastic itself.  And I'm currently trying to take off the green top but it's a bitch, even trying to slowly pry it off.  My sweaty hands probably aren't helping matters any either!

If i understand correctly, it was basically an after market modification you could purchase and install onto the playboy table
to convert it.

I am pretty sure their buttons open up to put custom labels in

They do: see "Custom Labels" here: http://mjrnet.org/pi...?sid=cabButtons

I don't think you'll find a pre-printed "Exit" button anywhere, and the color combinations available for the standard labels (Start, Extra Ball) are pretty limited, so custom labels are the way to go.
I bought an Exit-button and some others from this spanish seller at Ebay. They are good and arrived in my country a few days after buying.
