Fartian, in the next update of VP-Man can you add an option to unexpire FP by making it think that the system date has not gone past the FP expiration date? Is this something that can be done?

This can already be done via the launching options (avoid expiration).

Uhm.... it seems that it actually does not work. sad.gif I tried it, setting the launching options to "avoid expiration" and then setting my PC clock to 2011 (a date where Future Pinball will be expired). Then I launched an FP table from VP-Man and .... I got anyway the FP warning telling that software has expired.

Fartian, have you tested the above launching option feature in relation to Future Pinball, as bbastyr actually asked? wink.gif

Thanks for any hint....

Cheers,
M.E.A.

Right click that table and set your launch option to your VP9 exe.

Well, since FP tables don't have launching options in VP-Man, you'll have to set avoid expiration in the default launching options accessed via main menu File->Set default launching options. Don't play with the PC clock, that is what avoid expirtation is doing for you.
If it still doesn't work FP checks expiration in a different way which cannor be handled with the system time.

Hello all,

'Avoid Expiration for FP' was discussed in another topic as well, and I tested it by checking the Default Launching option in VP-Man... as the balloon help suggests it works for VP/VPM but not for FP tables - pity.

I have a problem switching between vp8 and vp9 tables. Vp8 tables seem to work just fine, but vp9 tables just wont start, error in script after rendering the table.
I can launch the tables just fine without vpman, so I do have all the correct files. Selecting vp9 in the Alter table data menu does not help, although I do think it has to be selecting the right vpinball.exe.

Hi CMC888,

it's not enough to choose VPM or VP9M in the drop-down menu of 'Alter Table Data...', it will only show up as an entry in the table list. To choose the correct executable you
- right-click the table,
- select 'set launching options' from the menu,
- choose the correct exec from the drop-down menu for the 'Visual Pinball Executable' at the top (if the VP9 exec isn't in the list you have to 'Add' it in the 'File->Settings' menu before).
- and 'Set' it.
As a result you will see a small Space Shuttle icon in the bottom right corner of the VP-Man window, to the left of the 'Filter' status, to indicate that launching options were modified for this table.

Oh well, maybe he's right. I can't tell from memory if 'Avoid expiration' is really working for FP tables at all. Maybe even the default launching options are ignored when launching FP tables.
What I can say is, that Future Pinball has only limited support in VP-Man. That means you are not able to use several versions of FP as it is with VP. Since there are no downward compatibility problems (that I know of) with Future Pinball, it is always suggested to use the latest version of it.

Well, believe me. This was exactly what I tried to tell you: in VP-MAN the default launching options are ignored when launching FP.

I am an FP enthusiast, and I am even more enthusiast about the great job you did in VP-MAN. Since the problem of the expiration of the FP program at the end of 2010 is quite serious, I only wanted to ask if you could be so kind to try to add the "Avoid Expiration" feature in a future minor release of VP-man.
After all, it seems me that you already implemented the relevant date-change code in your software for VP tables launch and it should be just a similar matter of setting a different system date just before launching FP executable (because FP checks the system date during software launch, not when loading a table).

Thanks.

I wasn't aware of the fact that the FP team discontinued development. If Black is not going to remove the expiration check until the end of year, it is certainly possible to do such a feature in VP-Man. Only problem is I started development on something else which isn't finished (multi screen support) so I can't release a new version at the moment, since I don't use any version control system for development.

I cant set launching optins in vp-man, nor default nor table launching options. It says something went wrong.

Any ideas how to fix this? I saw you edited someone else's database file?

Best regards

Thanks a lot for the acknowledgment.
I perfectly understand that you have higher priorities, and after all we FP users have still 12 months to go so I didn't mean to push you to work on this enhancement right now. blush.gif
Just ... please don't forget the point, ok?wink.gif And in case you will manage to work on it before the end of 2010... do not miss to alert us in this sticky thread, opened by Steve Paradis to discuss the specific topic: http://www.vpforums....?showtopic=4976. Worship.gif

Best Regards.

I hope that somebody could help here, even if my question is probably stupid. blush.gif

After installing VP-MAN and using it to launch some VP9 table, what actually happens is that the VP9 software is launched, then the table is automatically loaded and ready to be played but an empty Visual Pinball software window is still appearing on top of it, and needs to be manually iconized to actually access the table and play it.
This behaviour is quite annoying (also because this issue doesn't happen when launching , from VP-MAN, a VP8 table with the VP8 executable) . think.gif
I hope it should be possible to setup somehow VP-MAN in order to directly obtain the focus on the table to be played also with VP9, after launching it.

Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance.

Try VP9 in compatibility mode (Windows NT 4.0 SP 5).

It sounds like VPman is launching a VP9 table in VP8. If you right-click the table in VPman and go to "set launching options", you can choose VP9 for that particular table. You can also use VP9 as your default by going to "file" and "set default launching options".

for some reason my previous version of vp-man stopped starting up and I get "runtime error 7 system out of memory". this occurs even if ive done a clean restart and i know i have enough memory 1024mb. I can't figure out what it could be so I uninstalled and reinstalled VP but it still gives the error. So I tried installing 5.50 but same thing.. any idea what could be hanging me up?

First let me say that I love VPman and have been using for many years. I recently got a bigger hard drive and did a clean install of my OS and vpin programs.. I'm wondering how VPman records my data like when I edit the table info or classify as favorites or even specify which version of VP to launch a particular table. Do I have to do all of this over again or is there a way to transfer this data to my new drive? thanks!
