My hypothetical wish-offer would still be open - get a team together, raise funds to license the engine, design and make my own games on it. :)

In theory, you could get similar results by just writing a VP-to-Blender bridge. I poked my head into the developer forum asking about the internals of the .vpt file format a month or two ago, but didn't see any substantive replies.

Hi all

First post, but have visited here ever now and then over a period but would love to do a mame cabinet running pro pinball

They have recently launched a lighting simulator which is pretty cool and the kickstarter will be starting any day

got this response from the guys at Pro Pinball, feel a mame cab coming up

"Thanks for getting in touch.

I'm pleased to say we will be supporting cabinets and second screens for DMD display. Resolution wise, we will initially be supporting resolutions as high as 2880x1800, ultimately we will also support 4K displays too!

The Kickstarter video will show the game running in portrait mode (though not the cabinet specific view we will be creating).

Thanks for your support it is much appreciated.

Cheers,"

From the kickstarter page:

The main reward of course is the game itself (featuring the new glass-off mode), due December 2013. Which will be offered DRM free on PC & Mac, though we hope to get the game onto Steam as well.

That's what I needed to hear. Donation made.

I am new to the virtual pin stuff and just trying to decide which way to set this up as loving the graphics of the pro-pinball

can you help and explain the DRM and Steam - what options does that open up...

Also what are my options for setting up Pro Pinball in a cabinet.

I asked Adrian Barritt from Barnstorm Games about Pro Pinball support for the PinDMD 2 on Twitter and here's what he said:

Yes, as it supports 16 shades I don't see why not. We're planning to put together our own cab, though we might use LCD instead of DMD.

Also what are my options for setting up Pro Pinball in a cabinet.

Steam opens up instant updates, achievements and online leaderboards but limited offline play. It has a offline mode but that expires after a few days, you need to reconnect to the internet for it to work again.
A DRM-free version means it has no copy protection and thus no problems with copy protection. That helps a lot with playing offline.

As for cabinet options, they are promising some but the game is far from being done.
So it's anybody's guess. Don't worry about it yet.

I sure hope they get funded.

For cabinet users it is probably most interesting being an alpha and beta tester. That way you are able to report cabinet specific bugs and issues. For a niche group like cabinet users I think it is good to be involved early in development.  In that case you need to pledge £90 or more though.

Not sure if I am willing to do that, but I am thinking about it.

I'm a cabinet user and I went for the £100 (alpha & beta tester possibility being the key factor)... never pledged that much before but damn... that just looks sooooo good!

Ok since I am keen for this pro pinball timeshock and others, I only have real pinballs but want to make a cabinet for the pro pinball, what system setup is the best as it is all a bit confusing - any advice would be much appreciated.

Is it visual, virtual - all a bit confusing at the moment and sure a few new others may be in the same boat.

If I can build a cabinet I might up my support to the 90-100 mark

I think its a bit premature to say what setup is best for pro pinball until the betas are out. For example, will it support a backglass? most likely... will it support a separate DMD? they say they are looking into it... Will it need an i7 with dual GTX660 or will an i5 with a lowly GTX460 be sufficient? We won't know til the betas are out. Will it support analog nudging? who knows. Will it have true LEDWiz support? You can get the picture. You can certainly build a cabinet now for VP and FP etc but the true test won't be known until either they tell us the minimum requirements OR we see a beta. I am however guessing that a middle tier PC with a 460 or better will be sufficient but then again we don't have a definite answer. Stay tuned is all I can say :)

they will be listing add-ons soon to entice some more support, shirts, possible cabinet decal designs, so keep checking and support if you can.
