is there a way to turn up the background music? I have the ROM up to 31 and the sound effects are nice but i dont hear much background music or anything going on

Yeah i have noticed this too, was there ever any other updated roms released, other than the 2 in the download section? I take it there is no other way to make the music louder?

I noticed the music thing as well after watching that video. Its the ym2151 settings, click on the vpinmame window, press the tilde key(the one to the left of 1), then move down and set the two ym2151 sliders too 75%. That should help with the music, although 75% is just a start as Ive not tested much, so you may need to play around with those sliders. Have fun.

Whoa, great first post Russ, will this change the volume for this table and not all other tables?? I wonder if this method would also work with Phantom of the Opera

Great tip, Russ_H! Thanks and welcome to the forums. I did find that when I did change those settings, the music kind of drowned out the voices, so I need to play with that a little bit to get it balanced properly.

@lettuce: I just tried this suggestion on Phantom of the Opera, and I did notice some change in the volume of the music, although it wasn't really that drastic. Then again, my speakers on my desktop are on a shelf on top of the desk, so I can't notice how much of a change there is. on this table

Just set it to about 50% and seems to be the sweet spot!!

And this also works with POTO, which is great news!!! Settings:

MSM5205 40%
VM2151 CH 1 100%
VM2151 CH 2 100%

I'm surprised some people didn't know about those sound settings, I guess it should be brought up more often. Yeah most games often have multiple channels you can go through for volume for the speech & music channels. Though I always wondered how pinmame determines what the default sound settings should be for each game & if anything can be done about it. Does pinmame maybe have default settings for each type of sound board & so there can't be a custom default for individual games without including an nvram with the rom?

I know in the past authors used to include tweaked nvram & cfg files with the table releases, I don't really see that happen anymore. After all, its great that a game looks & plays good, but just important that it sounds like it should in real life, & sometimes you need a custom nvram/cfg to achieve that.
I think its worth taking the time to tweak those & share them with the vpt so that everybody has an option for instant sound improvement.
In general people should share nvram/cfg files more (I forget which one holds stuff like sound level info). I know I've improved/tweaked sound for many games, so it might be helpful if I shared some of my nvram/cfg files. Though the problem is that I don't remember which games I felt I had to tweak & which ones I didn't since I did a lot of that stuff years ago.

I had a ball jump off the left ramp a couple of times, and I did not see where it had gone.
But this time when it happened I seen where it went. It looks like when it hits the right post next to the left side ramp it jumps. See picture to get a better understanding.
The ball is out of sight and table can not find it.
I hit that spot with the Right flipper if that is any help or matters any.

Thanks, I'll try that and post new picture if it happens again.
The last time it jumped on me it went to similar spot but followed the left side and drained. Of course when I try to repeat it, I can't. Which is just fine by me of course.
Love this table and find myself playing it a lot lately.

Thank You JP,
I really can't say enough how I love your work and appreciate what you do.

Thanks guys for coming up with this solution. I did not know the "tilde" sound menu within Visual Pinmame even existed. When I first pressed the tilde key, nothing would happen, then after several google searches, found out that because I had a media center computer with a USB infra-red device, apparently the device driver disabled the "tilde" key when it was used in various games and apps. I uninstalled the device driver, rebooted and voila, the "tilde" key worked and I was able to adjust the sound properly in "Bram Stoker's Dracula".

I didn't know either about the "tilde" key smile.gif

About the ball jumping: I think this must have been added in a later VP9 build, since I can't remember the ball jumping before in VP9. The first time I notice that was in Radical! were the ball jumped from the playfield on to a ramp. The problem with the ball jumping is that when the ball is in the air it can go through walls. So when this happen the only thing you can do is to press "b" to add a ball in the trough, and continue playing as if you have lost a ball. I guess this ball jumping may have been a result of the change of the compiler, since I haven't read that this have been added recently, so the code may have been in VP9 all the time, but it didn't work or the jump was very small. But with a new compiler the jump is higher. Well, that's just my idea of why the ball is jumping now.
