I think it ships set to 50% default.

The install guide has a small section detailing its features.

The Molex is a bit of a tricky one. You want that cable as short as possible really. So its hard to decide what lenth to ship as every cab is different. In an ideal world the psu would be under a foot away. But its not the end of the world to have it further but will need much thicker cables try and stop current / voltage loss.

I don't see any problem with the molex cable. I have about 10 short pieces of them at home. I just cut off the plug, soldered 2m of two-core cable and voilá.

Really, the molex cable was the smallest problem. Handling the unsigned drivers whithin Windows 10 stole my time instead....     

But all of that is forgotten now - the display is just too cool to be true

I am working on getting some signed usb drivers

 

If people have any suggestions about molex cables please let me know would need some sort of one size fits all solution or maybe a connector pre crimped with 2 meters of cable and a socket that you place where you want? but would require crimping tools to put the connector on.

I'm still dead in the water with Win 10. Device Manager does not show PinDMD. I've followed the install instructions and downloaded all of the required dll's and drivers. Any more ideas on how to get this to work? Signed drivers are nice but I'd like to get this thing going soon.

Does your pc do any thing when plugging in a powered pinDMD3? make the usb ding sound or try searching for any drivers at all?

PC makes a ding sound when I plug the dmd into USB but that's all. Device Manager shows 2 COM devices. I've tried updating drivers on both (pointing to the pindmd drivers I downloaded from this thread) but both say that the drivers are already up to date. I've set the windows settings re: unsigned devices per instruction manual, and I re-installed vpinmame per instructions using the new dll's

After rebooting Win10 in test mode I did both: restarting the dpinst-x64.exe AND updating the drivers in the device manager. That worked for me.

Untill you see a VirtuaPin pinDMD3 (COMx) device under comports nothing further down the line will work.

When you see this you can move onto checking .dlls etc..

ok, so what do I have to do to make pindmd appear under comports? I've tried everything suggested on the forum

all the suggestions is what needs to be done I am not sure why it is not working for you. Windows 10 is a total pain in the ass when it comes to unsigned drivers

 

So you have followed the procedure to allow unsigned drivers.

Ran the dpinstall programs?

Does the pinDMD3 show up any where as another device or another type of comport?

I've tried everything

 

1. followed procedure to allow unsigned drivers

2. ran dpinstall program

3. downloaded and placed dll files

4. re-booted and re-installed all of the above

5. plugged and re-plugged the usb

6. re-installed vpinmame

7. updated drivers on 2 existing comport devices

 

All with no luck. The pinDMD3 does not show up anywhere in Win. Pindmd config program doesn't see it either. 

 

I'll try all again tonight but this is very frustrating. As I mentioned, this is a fresh install of win10. Are there any third party products or other utilities that I have to install to make this work? Perhaps I'm missing some required unrelated component?

Does your Win10 show "Test Mode" or something like that in the lower right corner of the desktop?

I did not put the computer into Test mode. I did it this way:

 

1. Click the Start  menu and select Settings.
2. Click Update and Security.
3. Click on Recovery.
4. Click Restart now under Advanced Startup.
5. Click Troubleshoot.
6. Click Advanced options.
7. Click Startup Settings.
8. Click on Restart.
9. On the Startup Settings screen press 7 or F7 to disable driver signature enforcement.

Your computer will restart and you will be able to install non-digitally signed drivers. 

 

Test mode permanently sets the computer to allow installation of unsigned drivers, which is not recommended. Do I have to keep this setting permanently to make this work? I thought it was one-time for installation

As far as I understand, the a.m. procedure DOES permanently turn on test mode (or in other words: It did so on my PC). And it is necessary, because the unsigned driver will disappear as soon as you leave test mode and your DMD will stop working. That's why I have to cope with the "test mode" text on my desktop, even though it's ugly.

You dont need to worry about any .dlls or pinDMDconfig or pinMame or any of that yet. None of it will work without the device installed as a comport.

 

First thing we need to do is get the device installed as a virtuaPin pinDMD3 comport.

 

Can you try right clicking on the pinDMD.ini file and click install?

Ill boot up my win10 vm again tonight and have another play see what other ways there are to install unsigned drivers.

ok, tonight I will try right-clicking pindmd.ini and install, and if that doesn't work I'll retry the process in Test mode.

Ah yes the windows 10 has to remain in the test mode or none of this will work correctly.

If you follow the original instructions it will keep unsigned drivers allow on permanently.

Russ - ref the molex I would suggest just making a 1 meter long lead with a molex at one end.

It is such a slight moan on my part I am just giving feedback - but its now fitted in my cab and I am so happy with it.

In fact I saw the proper 'colour' mod on a real MM the other day and it looked dull and lifeless compared to your display.

Wishing you all the success with your product.  Its also worth giving people a note in the manual where the SAM .dll file is found as I dont think its on?  I had to update that to get the newer Sterns working.   They now look better than real Stern DMDs.  At least your displays dont look blocky - as Stern use 8 x8 clusters and sometimes they can be slightly out of line and different brightness.

Your mounting points are also good   Very well thought out.  I am just shocked you dont have a cab Russ!
