I know, but my DMD using flashers has better resolution :) And for the desktop I prefer to use that :)

not really sure i follow there?
You should get really good resolution normally, as long as the media is not "pre formatted" for a Dot Matrix
no masks or overlays etc.

Granted, i did not do the worlds best job putting it in there, and its also on my laptop, which aint great to start with but

external at bottom
2 internals, top left and one playing drive in theater on the backwall

Diablo was made for UltraDMD, so it will play just fine (or even better) in FlexDMD. But I refer to some of my other original tables, like Pokemon or Serious Sam, as they use a DMD made of flashers, in which I use pictures of the letters is a higher resolution. Just now I try to make some letters that looks good in FlexDMD, and the DMD is looking much better then before in FlexDMD. But I need to understand better FlexDMD if I'm going to use on its own. But for now it shows my DMD really well.

I did not work with Pokemon, but i worked with the copy of your Pokemon, the Blade runner 2049 table?

i was helping someone make it run in flexDMD so that it would use their DMD screen.
I was able to use your numbers and letters pretty good, with minimal repainting, as i am no photoshop wiz anyways.
They'd look a ton better if You did them and not me, obviously, but still, they cleaned up nicely.

187swqU.png

Your graphics are good, there is nothing wrong with them in and of themselves.
I did nothing on Slimer, except remove backgrounds so the background was transparent, and paint out the dot masking.
Not sure these will show here correctly.
qReQcnE.pngK9XzAtk.png
(and they dont really LOL)

It is just that you prepared them, to go an on unmodified flasher, and look DMD correct.
So you built the DMD look into them, which is perfect for how you made the display work.

FlexDMD is basically preparing the image over again, which is kind of like putting a mask over an image already masked, and the 2 masks do not line up.

You could do your graphics, with out the pre DMD preparations, on fully transparent backgrounds, and they look great.
My only recommendation is on the 96X96 tiles, go with a bit narrower font, or pinch the existing one in just a few pixels to prevent shopping on the fatter characters.
But you've probably already worked that out

I wish i understood the native flexDMD API better rather than using ultraDMD commands, maybe one of these days i will get them all figured out
Among other things, it will load font files from the table and use them for the DMD display, but darned if i can get it right so far.

Nope, it is not in exclusive fs mode. Still hidden.

VPX folder\VPinMAME\DMDDevice.ini

; virtual dmd stays on top of all other windows
stayontop = true

make sure it says that in the top section of the file

Doesn't appear to make any difference. Still acts the same.

I have been reading this thread but didn't find a solution to this. I'm running Freezy v1.7.1 flawlessly and I have read there are still some issues with v1.8.0, so I have resisted updating for now.

When I put the FlexDMD files in my VisualPinball/VPinMame folder where my Freezy DmdDevice dll files are, then run the FlexDMDUI.exe I get errors that "DmdDevice.dll and DmdDevice64.dll are outdates (version 1.7.1.0). Please download updated files."

I also get another error that says "dmdevice.dll was not found alongside FlexDM in xxx." I never had a file called dmdevice.dll (I do have a file called DmdDevice.dll) and I don't see it in the Freezy or FlexDMD download files. Is there a difference with these files and if so, where do I get the dmdevice.dll

I have not registered FlexDMD OR UltraDMD yet as I'm waiting to fix the above issue first. I watched Major Frenchy's tutorial on this and he was using Freezy v1.7.1.

Can someone help me get FlexDMD to allow my Freezy 1.7.1 .dll files so I don't need to update Freezy at this time and where to get (if needed) dmdevice.dll?

Thanks!

Not really sure who said 1.8.0 freezy's had issues?
Unless you are running some really old stuff, should really be no issues with it

I think you are misreading your error, there is no such thing as dmdevice.dll
It is DMDdevice.dll, and it along with flexDMD belong in the VPinMAME folder

1.7.1 is still there, though flexDMD will not work with it, too old, no one can help you make it work with it, you'd have to download the source and compile your own version built for 1.7.1
among other things 1.7.1 renders kind of dark

The 1.7.1 versions are right in freezy's github, same as they have always been

dmdext-v1.7.1-x86.zip

dmdext-v1.7.1-x64.zip
And you simply unzip them to the VpinMAME folder, but again, FlexDMD is not going to work with it

You want
dmdext-v1.8.0-x86.zip
dmdext-v1.8.0-x64.zip
VPX does not really need the 64bit, but there it is anyways
And again, they belong in the VPinMAME folder

Thank you for this and I updated to Freezy 1.8.0 successfully. However now when I try to launch FlexDMDUI.exe it does not open.

There is no box to uncheck to unblock the file (or any of the Flexdmd dll files).

I have re-downloaded the 4 FlexDMD files and put them in my VPinMame folder and rebooted..still can no longer get FlexDMDUI.exe to open.

Edit: even though I need the 4 FlexDMD files in my VpinMame folder since this is where my DmdDevice.dll resides, I put copies of these 4 FlexDMD files in my XDMD folder as well...for some reason, THAT did the trick.

I don't know why it is, but now I can launch FlexDMDUI.exe, register the files and FlexDMD seems to be working.

I was already loving FlexDMD, then I discovered the PinballY DMD mod. That's awesome! I love the animations and not having to worry about capturing my DMD or filling the screen for PBY when the table had no DMD.

One issue I'm having is with some tables with long names. If it's too long, it spills off the screen. Is there any way for me to adjust the font size so my table names will fit on the DMD?

I'm having a bit of a problem opening the FlexDmDUI.exe file.

Right after I downloaded it I was able to open it to begin the set up. I clicked "register" for the first box, but then realized I did not have the exe and other necessary FlexDmD files in the right directory. So I closed out of the set up to fix it. Now whenever I try to open the FlexDmDUI.exe file nothing happens, nothing shows up. Can someone help me fix my terrible mistake? Thank you in advance.

I can't get Flex to register. I have reinstalled many times, checked that everything on my computer is up to date but it just spins a wheel for a few seconds and remains unchecked. I tried all the suggestions on here and still nothing. Is there anything else to try? Can I manually register it in the registry?

Something is preventing the exe from running
It should run no matter what

not that it needs it but have you tried run as admin?

have you tried running from a different user login?

Are you visual C++ runtimes up to date?

Will it run from a different folder?
dont register it, but just see if it will run if you put the files into a new empty folder someplace like c:\flextest\

Event Viewer might give you a clue. Open Event Viewer, click on Windows Logs then Application and see if there are any entries for when you tried to start FlexDmDUI.
