Make a folder called, "Real DMD Color Videos" and put them in there, following the normal naming convention.  I can get them to display for one cycle and then I get an error message.

Hi Dave,

thanks, that worked. But as you said, it is not stable. I don't get an error, but after rolling through 3-4 tables the DMD switches off. I can bring it back to life by restarting PinballX, but that's not satisfying. I've also tried displaying the coloured PinMame ROMs in the frontend: That works good, but they take too long to load.

It seems as if we still have to wait for a stable and satisfying solution for color DMD videos in the PinballX frontend.

Cheers

Timo

PinDMDv3 setup is going well in my WIP pincab, I have PinballX, Visual Pinball (including UltraDMD tables) and Future Pinball working.  Now all I need is Pinball FX2 support and it will be perfect!

One problem I'm having on some Future Pinball tables though: Some "scenes" are displaying incorrectly (see screenshots).  It seems like each of the vertical "slices" are flipped horizontally, has anyone seen this before?

Yep, it's fixed with this file, thanks!

Did you hear anything back from Zen on Pinball FX2 integration?  Maybe we should post something in their forums to ask for support?

Also, any hints on how to set the color for UltraDMD tables?  It doesn't seem to use the color configured in the registry.

Cool.

Nothing from zen.

could you give an example of a UltraDMD table? Are these custom written games? No roms/pinMame involved?

Exactly, they are custom without pinmame roms.  The two I have on my cab are America's Most Haunted and The Web.  You can configure UltraDMD for a particular color which gets stored in the registry, but that's all I know about it.

Lucky1 has posted pictures of America's Most Haunted running in color.  I asked him for a copy of his screens, since we now have UltraDMD working in color, but he has not yet responded to my request.  I figured I would swap in his screens for the originals and start from there.  they might work out of the box and they might not...

Colour as in some one has added colour to each frame or was the original in colour?

If it has been coloured by lucky1 i think all that logic is applied board side. This option will not be available for pindmd3 untill i create the dmdframe editor.

Hey Russ, have you thought about experimenting with more of the RGB LED modules to make up a 192 x 64 display?

Id have to swap hardware as the little mk20 micro im using is near the end of its limit with the current 128x32 display lol

I think there are only like 5 games that use that configuration? And it woukd not be plug and play any more for 99% of cabs.

I think a few other projects are working on that size display though :)

If it has been coloured by lucky1 i think all that logic is applied board side. This option will not be available for pindmd3 untill i create the dmdframe editor.

When I went back and looked closely at the original frames, I found that some of the frames were already in color.  Lucky1 has since confirmed for me that he is using the same method he developed for the Stern 16 color ROMs, so it will not work for PinDMD3.  I'm always looking for more, but I'm pretty pleased that UltraDMD works at all.

I went with 10 footers to cover pretty much every possible configuration. With our units, we use all 10', with the folding backbox.

Hi Noah/Russ, I just received my PinDMD3 but it did not come with a USB cable. I'm using a short cable with my pc out of the cab but I cannot get Win10 to see the dmd. I have power (it's all lit up with the pindmd logo) but there's no mention of pindmd in Device Manager. This is a brand new pc, clean install of Win10 on a fresh hard drive. I get a chime when I plug the USB into my computer, and I have bass.dll, pindmd.dll, and vpinmame.dll all installed in the same folder. I also installed the USB drivers. I tried updating drivers on Com3 (USBSerialPort) but Win says I have the most up to date driver.

Separately, I also purchased a Virtuapin speaker panel, speakers, and lepai from you but none of them came with screws to mount the dmd and speakers to the panel. What size screws will fit the speakers and panel? I'm confused about how the plex is supposed to go together with the mdf. Seems like the screw holes from the t-nuts will show through the plexi.

Mine arrived today - it is EXTREMELY bright.  Can it be turned down at all in software??

Very nice unit, I will be swapping out the long USB cable to something shorter.  I would of thought a molex cable would of been included with the unit.....  Even with the PC at the back of my cab the internal PSU wouldnt reach the DMD..  Luckily i have some plugs/sockets and crimping tool so I knocked up an extension cable to run alongside the USB cable.   Maplin in the UK and ebay have plenty of these leads made up for a few quid.

Would advise anyone buying to download the proper instructions! all the links are in those to get all the files you need - except for the Sam PinDMD3 file which is easily found online.

Once all the drivers and dll's are in the correct places then I just had to go thru 120 games on Pinball x and hit 'F1' to configure them.  Once I did this they were all fine.

Must admit for weeks I had been considering this purchase - and now I have I wish I got on the original pre-order list.  I wont go back to using a screen again.  To make life even better - my backbox will fold down now on hinges as real pinballs.

The molex is my only SLIGHT moan - but a big thumbs up to Russ who dispatched the item Saturday and it landed on my work bench at noon today (monday) via Royal mail.  10 out of 10 for service!
