my pinDMD board arrived at work today! dblthumb.gif I'll post pics as soon as I get the Vishay DMD bolted onto my pincab. Only 4 days to ship from the U.K. to Canada too! ohmy.gif

Thanks Russ!

cool smile.gif

chriz has mentioned some animations in games dont seam to run full speed, but only some animations. i have not seen this my self. but i dont really play the games hehe.

as this is only for certain animations i think the problem lies in the pinmame.dll code not the board. if any one else sees this could you let me know and ill see why these certain animations seam to be struggling smile.gif

should be an easy fix smile.gif

yes, the pindmd board arrived today - and like h4ck3r said, it's a night and day difference. I just love it biggrin.gif woohooooooo

I love the glowing effect:

I noticed one thing with some animations, seems like they run not at full speed (on various tables, not all animations, just specific ones). for example white water (above is the LCD dmd for comparing)... btw, I think the score-digits run also not with fullspeed?

can anyone confirm this? or on some other tables?

thats a strange one chriz
haven't seen it do this my self / hacker or maxxsinner have not mentioned any thing :/

im gonna give it a test this weekend when i get home. see whats happening. im 95% its a software problem the pinmame side though so should be an easy enough fix when i figure out what's wrong smile.gif

why it doesn't like some animations is very strange!!

did a fast test on some other tables. here are also some strange animations. can anyone check these animations for doublecheck?

Attack from Mars
jackpot animation
multiball animation

X-Files
extra ball animation
shoot left ramp for jackpot animation

Theatre of Magic
magnet-hold animation on the left ramp

The Addams Family
bumper animation

Scared Stiff
part of the skillshot animation

Indiana Jones
A-D-V-E-N-T-U-R-E droptarget animation

White Water
check vid above

edit:

tried a new USB cable, but no difference. also checked the ripponcable twice.

there are also some wrong "pixel dots" on the left from the credit-score (only when the credit-score is displayed) on some tables, like White Water, Attack from Mars or Cirqus Voltaire, see the vid (the White Water Logo is also with strange animation):

ok cool ill check them out this weekend

only thing i can think of at the moment is....

when sending frames to the pinDMD the first 3 bytes are preamble bytes to keep it in sync with pinmame. maaaaaybe these animations use the same 3 bytes in the same order and just happen to be when the pinDMD addr counter is at 0, it would cause the state machine to get confused!

thats my guess right now. easy fix is to add a few more preamble bytes maybe 5 or 6.

any way ill have a play and get it sorted this weekend smile.gif

EDIT
the strange dots is a small ghosting error in the firmware. still working on the timing to get this correct, its when a dot at the top of the display ghosts onto the bottom slightly. hopefully have a fixed firmware for this soon smile.gif

ah looking at that video and seeing the logo flash when its static on the lcd makes me thing some thing else is wrong and not the preamble thing i thought it might be, looks like pinmame is sending dodgy frames for some reason. ill play this when i get home on the weekend and dump the actual dmd data and check to see exactly what pinmame is sending the display

thanks for the videos and info they really help smile.gif

Just got my extra dongle today, tested it, and I am not having any issue's with it. Ill upload a video to show.

Sorry Chriss... Only thing I can think of is that you got it plugged into a 3.0 usb port, and or you got a shitty USB cord.

I almost seems like a power issue, on the led itself, not russ's board maybe?

I found that the first usb lead that I used gave me a little grief and ended up using one that is only about 300mm long (12 Inches). That seemed to solve the problems but never went back and checked to see if it was the cable being too long or if it was just a plain faulty cable. blush.gif facepalm.gif

Think I was so excited with my new flash DMD that I forgot all about it. biggrin.gif

ah strange how its only effecting chriz, what i dont get is how its only effecting certain animations?? i would of thought if it was corrupt data it would either all be corrupt or none at all! not just certain animations. the board it self does not know what its displaying it just displays the frame data it gets streamed.

are these animations using mostly lit pixels? could the display be drawing to much current and maybe resetting it self?

i wouldn't worry about it we will be able to solve it!!! smile.gif

measured the voltage on my old 5V psu - just 4,46V.
I tried another psu and measured again - this psu gives 4,76V. believe it or not, this makes all the different. I checked the datasheet of the vishay LED DMD - it says min 4,5V, so the 4,46V was simply not enough for the DMD when almost all LEDS are active.

thanks again guys for your help otvclap.gif

cheers
Chris
