From what your saying it sounds like the computer is not even seeing the pinDMD3 (not just windows).

Couple things to check.
Has the board got power?
Is the green led lit?
Is the yellow led flashing?
Does windows do anything when its plugged in (new device pop up, or usb connected sound?)

pinDMD3 does not receive power from usb but from the molex. It must be powered from molex before a computer will recognize it.



EU order update!

Spent all night assembling 18 devices untill i ran out of M3 hex bolts (rs got my order wrong and did not send enough)
I will be assembling the rest tonight and packaging them ready to drop off at post office on wens.

The modules *may* need slight ajustments to align 100% perfect i am bit against time at moment to have it all ready for wens (full time job as well) you can just loosen the m3 hex bolts slighty n adjust the panel if its not quite right.

Never done so much manual work in my life!!! Lol. We will have a proper EU distributer for the next batch

Yes, I have both a green and flashing yellow LED and the pinDMD logo on the display, all powered up.  But as I explained, Windows/computer is not seeing the device.  I have tried all the different usb ports on the case, though I'm certain that isn't the issue because other devices work.  I would note that this is my SECOND pinDMD3 board -the first one was completely non-functional in that it only had a partial display.  I sent it back to Paul and his best guess was that it was poor soldering in manufacture.   This one seems to be functional except for the mentioned problem.  So I need some ideas on how to remedy this.  I'm still betting my money on a windows 10 problem as other people have had similar issues.  I have never been a fan of Microsoft products!

Hmmm...  This is curious.  Now I have a generic USB COM device listed under ports which I have determined to actually be the PinDMD3.  However, I have followed the instructions for installing the pindmd.dll file, yet the config file still doesn't recognize the device (as evidenced by it not displaying the version on the screen), nor can I get the demo file to work because it tells me the pindmd.dll file is missing and I should attempt to reinstall it.  I'm still betting on a software issue.

It showing up as a com device is good. 

 

Have you tried to install the pinDMD3 usb drivers? It needs these to turn it into a "virtuaPin pinDMD3" com device. This is how the .dll can find it. 

 

Demo needs the pinDMD.dll next to it for it to work. but will not work untill the pinDMD3 is installed correctly.

I'm not sure what you mean by installing the demo "next to" the pindmd.dll file. Also, I don't recall if I installed the pinDMD3.dll file; if not, where does that go -in the VPinMAME file?

Before we can use any off that we need to install the pinDMD3 drivers first

Have you downloaded these http://54.148.129.10...usb-drivers.zip

 

unzip some where

then right click on that com device and update drivers and point to the unzipped driver folder

once drives are installed you should see a "virtuaPin pinDMD3" device under com ports

I have shipped all EU orders which near killed me getting it all done ready for today AND a full time job lol.

Will need to go back and collect tracking numbers on sat.


Few displays might need aligning but this is very easy. All future orders will be 100% adjusted i just did not have time to meet this dead line this time round.


I am hoping they all turn up ok they are packaged very well and was 100% tested and in full working order before being packed

wow good job russ, I love mine and I'm sure all those people who are getting these will too.  Just wish I could compile xdmd.  Hope others try and explain how

Are you using visual studio 2008? This is best way to compile it i found? Also how come you need to compile?

I was trying with vs2012, but have a virtual machine with 2008 if you know that it will work I will try that.  I want to compile so I can make things like the command line utility without showing both displays etc.  Love being able to do anything I want by having the source.  I want to make some basic animations to show off your awesome product. 

 

When I load up the solution, I upgrade it to .net 4.5 and re-compile.  I get tons of errors, any ideas?

Should my device manager still have my old pinDMD2 stuff like the pic?  It seems to be working fine (pinDMD3)

I think Slydog43 is talking of "compiling" because the xdmd download link points to the source code files of xdmd?

Does xdmd have something like a setup.exe or install.exe? Or is it installed just by copying the files into a folder and register a .dll?

xdmd is just a .dll which comes with the source pre compiled. To be totally honest i have no idea what its actually capable of or how to talk to it. I have just been testing it for Tom using the demo exe he has. I will look into how its ment to be used for you guys

Yes it too FAR to long to get these ready
Had problems and delays at every stage of getting these boards ready for production which was not fun. Also unlike the good old pinDMD1/2 days i now have a family(+1 very soon hehe) and my free time has gone from 8hours a day to 0 at home to work on this stuff. Pretty much just have my 1 hour lunch break at work to cram it all in lol. But slowly got there
