This is a known one, and most likely also existing on the real hardware (at least i had one brave tester that did the experiment on his machine, and apparently it was insanely loud in real life and also crackled).

Thus, for these machines, always keep the volume at below/equal 28 or so.

New release time in the first post!

This time, we finally have one single download again after all these years that contains all the files you need!  :)

The only caveat is that if you own an external DMD, then you have to move the respective dlls out of the subdirectory you need to use (******* or PinDMD1 or PinDMD2 or PinDMD3) and into the main VPM directory. Thanks to lucky1 we now have a plugin interface for the DMDs.

Please, if you own an external DMD, test this especially with all kinds of special machines, e.g. the large SEGA DMDs (Baywatch, Frankenstein, Maverick, etc), the small Data East DMDs (Checkpoint, Hook, TMNT, Batman) and the extra-large Flipper Football one, and also some of the old alphanumerical segmented ones.

Apart from that:

- Add support for modulated/multi-level flashers on WPC
- To enable modulated/multi-level flasher support, set SolMask to 2, e.g. use the new core.vbs from the VP10.2 thread

- Add support for GI on Whitestar

- retweak HC55516 sound core (Gorgar up to Twilight Zone, etc)

- retweak Pistol Poker to use the correct 12MHz clock

Thanks to DJRobX for the flashers/GI!

Nice... going to check out the new sound on Gorgar right now.

*edit*  That one sounds about the same as the previous update, but I thought the previous update was a big improvement.  Was the re-tweak just a stability thing?

Its not that different. The only thing that i noticed was a very slightly improved Xenon. But let me know what you think.

Oh my goodness... it would help it I actually updated the files before I start testing stuff.  Wow, I am losing my mind.

Sorry, toxie, I just tested again and can hear the improvements, especially in the electronic noises... there used to be a mild grating sound in the trail of those sounds (for lack of a better description) but is sounding clean now.

*edit*  Just tried Xenon as well.  Sounds like maybe less hissing in the voices, although there is still some.  I don't remember that table well enough to remember how it sounded.  I can hear improvement.

I'm just going by perception and memory, but that is what strikes me.  The biggest improvement was in the previous update.

I've got problems now. Within minutes the game sound starts to crackle and repeat, like some broken LP! What did I even do??

All of them. 2.8. I've had to downgrade back to 2.7 to get it to stop.

Could be that the new filtering is a bit too heavy for your PC. Which output sample rate do you use? 48000?

Is it really with all kinds of ROMs? Also older ones?

New build up in the first post:

- add alternate Star God version (stargodb)

- for non-DX window display, fix the window scaling/centering to work the same as with DX enabled

- fix window size if an additional Mini-DMD is in use

- fix issues with PinDMD3

- fix XP issues with all new DMD dlls

- fix more (modulated) solenoid issues

*ping*

did anybody test the new DMD implementations? does it work as expected? and also on the exotic DMD sizes like the old Data Easts, the large Segas and the xtra-large Flipper Football?

Hey toxie... do you mean the new scaling on the DMDs?  If so, it's fantastic... or did you mean something else?  Let me know I will be more than happy to test some tables.

Oh, I can't help you with PinDMD... I don't have the external DMD.  Hopefully, someone else will step up to test that.

The new scaling for the regular VPM is really sweet though... love having that perfect rendering no matter what size the DMD is.

I've been testing the external DMD feature on PinDMD3.  It currently works in all modes on PinDMD3.
