Oh, and I found how to get to the settings of the pinDMD ...

***************************************
* rev584-16.dfu *** 08/02/2013        *
***************************************
intensity + refresh rate made adjustable using external 'pinDMDsettings.exe' app.

I need the other programs found in the Util folder in pindmd.com .....

Yes, he is an awesome guy. He sold me directly these stuff (except the DMD)... he told me that he didn't know 100% if the Cherry I had was compatible, but he told me that in any case he can help me troubleshoot it and in worst case I can send it back for a refund or for him to "play test the DMD". :) thanks randr for your time is very valuable to me.

Looking at the photo the pinDMD is not at fault, it is drawing the image correctly, looks like an out gassed display or the display is not receiving enough voltage to light the pixels.

Is there any way you can test the display in a real machine?

No, don't have access to a real Pinball Machine :(

If anyone in the USA have one, I can send it via USPS for testing.

Got it to work, had to up the refresh rate to the max, but some leds still missing, need more refresh rate, I think this DMD runs in a higher RF than the Vishays? And is  little outgas, will contact seller for refund.

Used my heatscanner to see how HOT the High Voltage Board runs .... damn I got my finger burn within a few seconds because I couldn't believe that the Resistor 10W 4.7K was running at 130+ F!!!!!!!! That is hot, others resistors where round 100 F ..... but they can be touched without problem.

It is normal for the R 4.7K to run that hot? I need Zeb for this question.... Zeb where are youuuu :)

edit: fixed resistor value it isn't 4k is 4.7k reads 4K7 = 4.7K

Great! At least you know your setup is working. I'm leaning towards a dmd issue..maybe not bad just not compatible

New update: Fixed the lines missing with a heat gun .... now that it have all the lines on the damn DMD made a buzzing noise when showing a lot in the screen. Anyways, the screen is starting to outgas so it will eventually dye. I have mod the High Voltage Board and installed Heatsinks into the 3 resistors .... just in case ;) .... and purchased another extinguisher lol

Good job! I know you had a fix for those missing lines, but is the fix not working? You have a image for now, but I think very soon you are going to miss not having all 4,096 pixels working in all their glory. Hopefully you can source a fully working display soon. If it happens to be another Cherry and it works with the PinDMD that would open up another option for builders wanting to add a real plasma display. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Ah, you posted while I was responding. If the outer edges are as bright as the middle of the display then maybe it is OK? My older used plasmas are definitely noisy. The new one is not as noisy but it still buzzes. I believe this is normal. I just don't notice with a machine on location because there is usually a lot of background noise at arcades and bars.

Yes, is VERY bright, just when there is little information, for example  few lines of text or numbers you can notice some pixels missing or not as bright as the others .... but when the screen have large animation, pictures or big texts ... is as bright as a new DMD. This DMD is .. well ... was very good. Now we can put another DMD to the list of compatibility :)

Let me take a picture...

Well ... I think the heatsink in the two others resistors were overkill they don't even get hot anymore lol.... but in that 4.7K resistor get hot as F@#$, but now have better heat dissipation :) ... test it and had drop like 20+/- degrees F .. happy with the MOD. Now I have the pinDMD, HVB, and LedWiz with heatsinks in their vitals parts :D

... have a few drivers chips from the ledwiz just in case too, lol.... now where do I put this extinguisherjust in case the DMD or the HDB cut fire?! ...

Well done bud you nearly got it working!

The larger the uS the slower the refresh rate will be so sounds like its currently a bit to fast for the display. Ill create another version of the settings.exe with much larger limits. Hopefully this will help you out :)

Hello,

I might be reviving an old topic but I have followed this process to the letter and

now I have no 62v at pin 8 on my plasma display board. Some of the wiring pictures

in this forum do not show up. I am wondering what would cause the 62 volt to just go to zero

I dont know how to check the voltage on the wires coming out of the transformer where

to place my probes for the check. Any help would be great.

Thanks,

John
