Stupid question Russ, do they come with the data cable between the board and the DMD or do we need to pick one of those up? Also, just for reference, how have you been powering your display - a hacked PC power supply? Separate supply? Tapped into USB?

That's great to see, congrats on getting this done, we're all thankful. Can't wait to get mine in, I think I receive it should coincide when my cab is ready (a few weeks!)

you power the actual dmd off your pc psu or what ever 5v source u want smile.gif (i wouldnt advice usb as this can only supply 500ma and these displays want like 2amp)
the pinDMD gets it power from the usb connector

im adding the 14-way data cable with each board coz im nice smile.gif (and bought loads lol)

That's great Russ, thank you, it's nice to not have to source them ourselves.

Has anyone researched the specs of USB and the vishay display boards to see if we could just hack into a USB cable to power the board? I suppose I could always run a line out of my PC, or pick up a different supply, but USB would be so nice and clean.

Above is not a good idea as USB does not supply enough current to power the DMD

I'm going to make up a simple PC power-supply-molex connector from an old power supply I have lying around - keep it simple I always say.

That's probably what I'll do too. No need for an extra supply IMO.

Exciting stuff!, my DMD is already sitting in my cab.
One question I have russ seeing as we both have pinled`s is doe`s it really not matter about the polarity of the red power cables?.
The site gives the impression that it makes no difference what way around it is connected (Was just going to take 12v from a molex) and I just want to be sure before an expensive mistake is made.
Another bonus is that now my second gpu is removed I now have space for six and not just four contactors - happy man!.

do not power it from your usb lol, usb supply's 500ma max these boards want like 2amp it will blow ur usb up lol.

my advice is to buy a nice little molex connector (ebay has MILLIONS) and wire it up to the (+5v,0v). this way you can plug it directly into your pc psu and have a nice neat little cable smile.gif

@rockyrocket, my pinled came with a cable that will only plug onto the display one way. (although both cables was red HELPFUL LOL) you do need to get the 12v the right way round though!! it should say on the connector which is +12 and 0v

if your unsure take a picture of the connector and ill tell yeah the correct polarity smile.gif

gonna test and program the firmware into the remaining 34 boards now smile.gif ill let ya know how it goes hehe smile.gif

The only thing that sucks about this is I'm going to have a sweet looking DMD and my cabinet still isn't painted laugh.gif
