When I first heard about the ads I logged out and clicked on every ad I could find. It's the least I can do.

The heck just happened here? Eh, whatever. Can anybody tell me what the ads look like? I can't see them when I log out. Maybe my adblocker does it automatically or something.

Noah,

Where is the donate button?

I was going to thow more money your way. I have some extra from the tax refund.

Thanks,
Steve

Note: Wow had to do some work looking for the reply button, but then found the Add Reply button instead. Maybe I should take some of my money and buy some glasses. dirol.gif
Or many I just need to retire this old 21" tube 80 pound monitor, or set the 1600x1200 resolution a little lower. Actually your doing fine, I'm just attempting to be funny.

Man, it seems like every 4 or 5 months, whomever our host is gets pissed off because we are using too much CPU power and the other clients on the shared host experience slowdowns.

That, in itself, is a GREAT thing, it means we're growing by leaps and bounds!

smile.gif

There is an unfortunate side effect, though. It means we either get booted from our host, or we upgrade to a more expensive plan. This time, the only direction to go is in the form of a dedicated server. Dedicated servers are MUCH more expensive than a shared host or VPS (Virtual Private Server).

Though there are benefits to having a dedicated host, such as improved security and more flexibility, especially for our upcoming tournaments. The problem here is, I'm not really in a position to absorb the increased costs.

Therefore...

I'm left no choice but to implement ads for non-paying members. The support packages will remain unchanged, and the ads will be removed for VIP's, Charter Members, and subscribers. The nice side effect of this will be the ads will be contextual, ie. all pinball-related, which in itself supports the industry we love.

Thank you all for your support and understanding in this matter,

-Noah

Thanks for the update. After trying for 3 times last night, finally got the screen saying what was happening. Before seeing it, was thinking...holy sh*t, the place got hacked again.

Just signed up for Gold status, would do Platinum, but right now, it's a stretch. Maybe later I can upgrade......

I want this place to stay around. GREAT community we have here.

Just a head's up...

For some of you the new host may not have propagated yet. If that's the case, then you are seeing the old board, and some posts may be lost as a result.

I apologize for the inconvenience, but if you see some of your recent posts gone, that is why.

Thanks.

Weird, Bob, I just tried it and I'm in the chatroom.

If you're referring to the 'Who's in Chat', that has to be reworked. I'll probably implement it right into the board statistics. When I first added it, I did a quickie job, which used iframes (I hate iframes).

Noah, I moved MAMEWorld over to MDDHosting and let me tell you, it's the best host by a mile we've ever used. They use Litespeed instead of bloated Apache, and this allows for much higher CPU usage for the same money. Plus the support is way better than Inmotion, which we used previously.

I'm not sure how much bandwidth you're doing here, but the plans can be customized/doubled anyhow. Just a friendly bit of advice if you ever decide to move.

(You can read their overwhelmingly positive reviews at WebHostingTalk and you'll see what I mean.)

Thanks for all your hard work Noah. This new host though is considerably worse for me so far. Never ever had a problem with the old one. Might be some temporary issues?
Downloading at 40Kb/s as opposed to 500 Kb/s before. Also board is very slow and unresponsive, like some kind of slow response from the server Hopefully it is just temporary. tapping.gif

It's hard for me to tell with high speed internet.

Perhaps a few other opinions?

In an effort to keep costs down, I went with a lesser package with upgrading potential.

Sorry Grapper.

@twisty - Thanks, but we wouldn't be able to use any of those packages. We'd get booted again tongue.gif

Thanks Noah, I am not entirely sure what you mean with the "high Speed Internet" part though? Do you mean yours or mine? I have 100 Mbit down anyhow...

It might be just a temporary routing problem that goes away. I am in Sweden after all...

I too have had slow page loads and downloads since the site moved.
My page loads use to be instant, Now they may take 10-30 seconds. Some times they load quite fast 5 sec. or so.

My download speeds were lighting fast on the old server : 2.5 MB/Sec Now they are clocking in at around 105KB/Sec.
I just tried 2 table downloads and that was my average.

I am on High Speed cable running at 20MB down 5Mb up.

Okay, sorry guys, but that's why we can upgrade.

I'll be looking into it. I haven't had much time to download, but page loading has seemed slower.

Thanks for the head's up.
