I remember way back when a number of carts for the atari 2600 that dealt with the four elementals called Airquest or something like that. what is entailed was you played the game, beating it gave you a code then you got the next one in the series to play and get the code from that one all the way thru the four games! Then once all were done you sent in the code for a chance to win real jewel-encrusted prizes! Only two of the games were ever made, air and I think water. These games were some of the toughest of the system! they had NO instructions! you had to figure out the gameplay then do it and win eventually! The first cart took me and my little sister about 1 month, a phenomenal amount of time back then for any game! This was around the mid 70's!

I've seen like 1 video of avgn... He's just a mental noob that has no appreciation for the classics. He doesn't actually spend any time actually playing the games. It seemed like he just loaded it, played a couple games and then bases his whole reviews on that short couple minutes he spent playing.
Crikey. Sorry to butt in here, but that's just completely wrong. James Rolfe, the guy that plays the AVGN, has to be one of the most knowledgeable guys when it comes to gaming. Would a mental noob that has no appreciation for the classics own this many NES games? (http://www.cinemassa...ection/NES.html)
I honestly have to ask, what episode did you watch? Who else would do reviews of Pong consoles, remember the awesome Swordquest contests and wrap them up in a nice condensed video, or deal with obscure unlicensed games (that also suck). Just sayin'.
...ahem. On topic note: Old Sierra adventures, Silver Surfer and the NTSC version of Dragon's Lair for the NES. Especially Dragon's Lair. The controls are pretty damn sluggish and one hit kills don't help.

So, is he just against "one hit one kill" games? One hit one kill games were a staple of the NES ages.
Honestly, I had no problems at all playing Dragon's Lair on the NES, sure the controls were sluggish. I think they were trying to go for the arcade Dragon's Lair, but the NES version was playable and I've beaten it many times. Right now I'm not really finding Silver Surfer that horrendous of a game. With Silver Surfer, if you can't shoot through it, you can't go through it.

Zork! an early 80's text only game I never did finish it! I finally did finish the 'Hitchhiker guide to the galaxy' text game though only about 1 month ago (found it online!)

North and South,,,,,,,,, A real stinker and treasure at the same time.
Princess Tomato,,,,,,,,, a classic .. but it sucks

Ahh, good ol' Earthworm Jim! EWJ 1 & 2 are two of my all time favorite games. I loved everything about them from the zany characters to the crazy level design. I still go back and play these two games all the time.
Tomb Raider on the SNES? I'm pretty sure that the first sighting of Tomb Raider wasn't until the Playstation 1.

Zork certainly was hard to win. It was easy to play though. I beat Zork, and tried again about 10 years later and did not finish. I made as detailed maps as I could when I played it and won, and without them I would have been lost. It did take a great deal of time. I did not win Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
I mentioned Elite 2, but Elite was no cake walk either. It was a hard game and there is just no way anyone could be involved in it enough to gain Elite status, and not feel the pressure. You were ambushed on nearly every jump towards the end, and in the warp trail so far from a resting point, and there was always the Thorgons or whatever their names that were scarce enough, but not enough to give a moment of peace while jumping, just from worry of an encounter. I'm sure there were harder games than Elite, but no many that would demand my persistence and I comply. For it's time it was a hell of an adventure.

Wow! I just googled Zork and realized that there were THREE in the series! Here is the link for the downloads if anyone is interested in the types of games we old(er) guys played at home computers first inception! Mind you these are text-only games, these came out before any type of graphics games were available on our first home computers (all you Tandy, Apple, Atari, IBM, Commodore owners out there you know who you are!)

I found out those quest game names! they are the SwordQuest series that came out for the atari 2600! there were to be four but only three made it out to production before the age of atari came to an end! The first was airworld, then waterworld finally, earthworld. these were by far the hardest games I'd ever played on my atari vcs!
