This is how I documented what I did in my notes and what I seem to have on my 3-screen cabinet now (in case anyone else wants similar).

VPX v10.8.0 (32/64 bit)
vPinMame v3.6 (SC version in 32/64 bit)
DMDextensions v2.3.0.0
FlexDMD v1.9.1.0
B2S-Server v2.1.4
DOF [MJR 7-2025] (32/64 bit)

The new VPX programs above were installed using Toxie's ... Main.Download.Installer.-.VPX8setup.exe  (posted on GitHub).
Using installation defaults of DMD-Drivers/DMDext support selected as the only extra-component.
The B2S-Server and DOF were installed separately.

Pinball-Y v1.1.0 (Beta 10) Build:10086 (x64 20241103-1939)
Windows-11 Pro (64 bit) v24H2

My old still-existing VPX install (now in Parallel)
VPX v10.7.2
vPinMame v3.5
B2S-Server v2.1.4
DOF [MJR 7-2025] (32/64 bit)

I'm copying/duplicating my install under my VPX-8.0 folder.

So, what are these files in \vPinMAME\cfg\ used for exactly?

These couldn't be the vPinMAME settings for each Table (and/or ROM) ... or could they? I thought those were stored in the Registry and hard to migrate.

Correct, VPinMAME stores the values in the registry, if you stay on the same machine no need to migrate those. In case you move to a new machine, simply export the Freeware/Vpinmame keys to a .reg file and import in the registry of the new machine. As for vpinmame, just copy the full folder.

Good info.

But OK, so if that is the procedure, then I wonder what these are? These are digital (not ascii/text). They only exist for Tables I've run.

The Rom "itself" stores it's settings in the .nv file.
All settings made with vpinmame are stored in registry
All settings made in the "~" a.k.a. "^" Menu are stored in .cfg
