what is with the funny symbol the site is now putting in posts?

For example do shift+enter (new single spaced line break)
Of click quote button to begin with a blank quate

and this guy appears

if you click the bold button and have no text highlighted

he appears again
hit enter with bold on, he keeps appearing
really weird
ALien invasion?
If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i don't have any way to receive it anyways

I can't seem to reproduce this.
weird, i can do it from 3 diff pc so far
