These files are mostly for authors so they can easily change the physics on their tables and see if they like the settings. So if you simply play tables then you don't need to do anything with these files, as the tables will include all the needed changes. Tomorrow I'll be uploading a few more tables :)

About the flippers on older tables: yes, use the same strong settings, but change the maxvel variable in the script to suit the speed of the table. I explained that in the pdf (my explanations are quite short :) )

Also about the flippers and why are they so strong. I found out that the flippers behave much better and get better shooting angles if they are very strong. I had seen that in ClarkKent mods, but at that time I wasn't happy making the ball mass heavier. So I started changing the mass of the flippers instead, and that worked fine but backhands were not easy to make. So I used ClarKent approach to increase the ball mass instead as the shotting angles were perfect, but I needed some kind of ball speed control as the ball got very high speeds, and then I came up with a small routine to limit the ball speed.

So for old tables, like in my Captain Fantastic mod, I use the same flipper settings so that the shooting angles are consistent, but I decrease the maxvel variable so the ball speed  fits the table.

Sorry, i'm really new in Virtual Pinball Stuff (i mounted a cabinet like 2 week ago, and I started in august, it was my first new about virtual pinball), so i don't know exactly what i need to do. I mean: If i install the new tables they have the new physics? Or must i place any other thing in visual pinball?

Most concrete: Do i need to place anywhere the vbs and vpp files that you post here, or are included in your new tables?

Thank you very much. And, another thing @jpsalas, in your web the Avengers Table has wrongs links to vpforum, could you change it?

Thank you and have a great day!

In JP's 3.0 tables, all that is already in place

For other tables to have it, you have to edit the tables, unless the table author has uploaded a new version stating he has used JP's 3.0 physics

You would user the PDF file in JP's docs as a guide for how to change the table.

I would not recommend putting the VBS anywhere.
Use it as a template for modifying the table's script, as it will not just blindly work for every table as is.
Not all flippers for example, are operated via solenoid callback

the vpp file is an exported example of table physics, you would not put it anywhere per se, as far as your tables go
you would open a table in the editor and choose to import physics, and then point it to that file, and then save the table.

VPX will not just directly make use of it, same for the .MAT file, you would have to import that in materials manager, but it will not magically change things
you have to then go and reassign your table parts to use the imported materials.

It is not a drop in physics solution, but a little toolbox if you will, for table authors.
You can definitely use it, but it will entail you learning a little bit of table editing.

Make a copy of a table you have, and practice incorporating the physics on it, it will begin to make sense then.

Thank you! You are helping me a lot! If you come to Brussels, you can play in my cabinet as long as you want!!

Well, I almost think I'm in a circus all year long, I mean at work :)

What I was referring is that the surprise in this table only happen in October :) I guess many of you know the surprise of this table from the latest version :) But now it only happens in October, so you are save the rest of the year :)

I also have tried to fix the trigger behind the right drop target not registering sometimes. I don't know why it happens, but a little nudge and it registers. But now it should happen a little less than before.

Oooh yes! Is it Christmass?

Not yet :) I guess I'll manage 8 more tables for the next weekend. I guess I can manage one table a day :) And that will be all the updated tables for now. I could update more, but the other tables are older and they play great like they are, maybe the rubbers are a little too bouncy when you hit hit them directly with the ball. That was one of the things I wanted to fix with these new physics :) I'll update my original tables next year, and I want to combine FlexDMD with my originals. It will be a choice to use FlexDMD or my build inn DMD, but I need to redo the letters and DMD size so they fit better FlexDMD.

For Christmas I guess I'll have ready all the Taito collection, yes that's all the 36 tables :) I guess I can manage 1 table per 2 days. There are a lot of more to do on those tables, mostly to check for new images if needed. I guess I won't add side blades to these Taito tables, but I hope all them will get 4k images for the playfield and plastics, if they donæt have them already :) It all depends on the resources, and thanks to Carlos Guizzo (and his friends) I have plenty of pictures :)

Today I uploaded "JP's Seawitch", which uses the graphics and rom from the Stern Seawitch, but with the layout of Stern's The Beatles.

I made this table just for fun, since I read that Stern had made several changes to that layout to make it more playable, and I just had to try it, but I didn't feel to code The Beatles rules in an original table. And they really made several changes :) I feel the table is more playable, with better shots :)

JP, while I've always preferred as close to authentic physics in VPX, I am really enjoying your 3.0 physics. The tables are just more fun to play 😊. Any plans on updating Serious Sam 1 and 2 with these physics? They are 2 of my favorite tables you've created 😊 Thank you for everything you do 😊

Yes, next year I'll update my original tables, there are several more things I want to update, like to include FlexDMD as an option in the same script, with better looking letters.

Hehe that is if someone does not update them for you.
You do realize what you started when you uploaded the little physics 3.0 tool kit?

Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness became it's latest victim during was was just to be a little experiment in having it display it's DMD info in a way that could be displayed on a PinDMD or similar.

And I looked away for just a few seconds and BAM! suddenly new physics.

And oh man, does it play a lot better.
The DMD experiment worked also.

I have a silly question on importing the materials Matt file. I am successful in doing so, through the editor, however I noticed that all of the imported materials do not have an X marked beside each one. For the life of me, I cannot make them active. Any ideas on how I can make them active? Hope I'm making sense 🙂

Because the material must be assigned to each object, in the editor you select an object and in your own panel you change the material,

if the new material you import has the same name as an already present one, this will replace the one already present, this will have the "X" of in use.
There is no universal material system for all tables, materials are assigned to objects one by one.

Thank you Kiwi . While I am still lost, your explanation makes it a bit easier to understand so I'll mess around with it and see if I can get it to work.

 simple example

have table show all your pin rubbers (hopefully you have them in a layer?)

Select all of them, click physics tab
make sure over ride is not checked
in physics material dropdown, pick  _rubberpins etc

I realize that is easier for me than other people because
My Name is Wiesshund, and i am a LayerHolic

pin rubbers, new layer
short rubber bands? Oh New Layer!
Metal Pegs? Ooooh new Layah!

Yea, i need layers anonymous

If it is a cluttered table with few layers, you might find it a bit easier to re-organize the layers 1st
But other than that, that's all you do to assign the new physics stuff.

But you will need to test and tweak after, depending on the table, it may not be right, out of the box, so need to adjust accordingly

What i have been doing is
1st fire up table, and use ball control
and drag ball to top of table and let it go, to get an idea of how the ball is moving, to see if max velocity is going to be way to low

If it seems to free roll good, then i see if the plunger can fire it up the alley properly.
It probably will not, so have to make it stronger (rather than weaken the table)

Once that is working, then i see how ball reacts with the flippers, to get an idea of if the max velocity is too low for the table
Once those feel right, if i have had to increase velocity, i may need to re-adjust the plunger.

Then i adjust the bumper strength as needed, and then the slingshots.

when that all seems nice, then i will adjust the physics materials, if needed, to suite the table.

Mind you some tables it is virtually a drop in and go solution with not much adjusting needed
I did an EM table, and i didnt need to adjust anything hardly aside from reducing the max velocity, because it isnt a fast EM table

If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i don't have any way to receive it anyways

Hi JP,

I love your Elvis table. It brings me endless hours of enjoyment.

But with the new version, the magnet for the Blue Suede shoes goal almost never captures the ball, making that goal nearly impossible to achieve. Is this due to the new physics? And if so, is there anything I can tweak to get this aspect so that it behave closer to the previous version?

Thanks for all your great tables!

Best Regards,

CyclonePF

Well, it nearly never did it before, and it has nothing to do with physics, but with timing, the rom and vpinmame.
