if you follow the information in that link above you never have to right click the back glass to get rid of the grill, It will be automatic

The process is the same as VP.  FX3 can grab focus sometimes making it a bit harder.  If you are running a front end like PinballX try starting things up temporarily without that so that you can get to the backglass and right-click.  Remember, most things are trying to stop you getting to that backglass so that the game remains in the foreground, so it can be a bit tough.

1st im unable to run doflinx as admin it will not start when the pc is started only when i uncheck the run as admin will it start. The b2s never shows but i see a form1 in the taskbar and the debug says its loaded. can someone help me please ive been at this for weeks after watching major frenchy's video on doflinx with no toys....thank you

What version of windows are you running?

If you still need help post your  Doflinx.ini file
Also Add this to your Doflinx.ini file - DEBUG=1
This will Create a Doflinx.log file, If you already have a log file make sure you clear it before you try running a game
Then post the log
 

When posting large items like a LOG or ini files

After you paste - highlight it, Then click on this symbol above <> then post

Are you on Doflinx version 7.14?
At one time you had to run Doflinx as admin - Not no more - Please see the Guide
With windows 10 there should be no reason to run anything as admin
I run windows 10 nothing as admin including Doflinx and I Have my UAC set to

rats! So I followed all the steps but not getting an BG. Only one I have is the freebie sorcerer's lair. attached both ini files in txt

 

I opened cabinet options in FX3, set BG repositioning to off and entered the same horizontal and vertical sizes shown in my B2S setup file. Beyond that, not sure what I am missing. Please let me know what else you need. also including screenshots of some of the key folders in case you see something missing or named wrong etc. and the startup properties. I have the full path for starup as: C:\DirectOutput\DOFLinx.exe PATH_INI=C:\Directoutput\DOFLINX_INI\ DISABLEDOF=YES

1. Add this line as the first in your DOFLinx.INI file

DEBUG=2

2. Delete the DOFLinx.LOG file

3. Restart DOFLinx

4. Run FX3 and Sorcerer's Lair for about 30 seconds or so (launch a ball do something fun)

5. Stop FX3

6. Post the DOFLinx.LOG file and explain exactly what you ran in your test.

7. Remove DEBUG=2 from your DOFLinx.INI file (or make it =0)

So I saw in the current log file it said it could not find the DOFLinx.ini config file so I renamed it from DOFLinx_ini to just DOFLinx and deleted the log file. But still no BG. The only thing showing in the log file is:

 

02-May-20 07:57:08.979 - !!! No valid output devices for DOFLinx were found ...... sorry about that !!!

 

I launched Sorcerer's Lair, and ran two balls on the table for over 30 seconds, then backed all the way out and exited the game.

 

Obviously something is not setup right based on that message.

 

I also can see when hitting Alt Tab, it shows doflinx running in the background but no BG anywhere.

Sounds like you haven't quite got the basics setup.

 

1. Are you running DOFLinx from your shortcut previously mentioned?  If you are then the "No valid output devices ..." message would not be showing up.

2. The INI file is called DOFLinx.INI   It can be placed anywhere and pointed to from the command line parameter.  Again it sounds like you are not starting DOFLinx from the shortcut you have setup.

 

I suggest checking those basics and get DOFLinx starting and reading your INI file.  Without it no other configuration will be loaded.

I started doflinx from the shortcut but still get the same error in the log file saying no output devices found. and no BG still. nothing happens when I execute doflinx but I"m assuming that is normal and it just runs in the background? I can see it when I bring up the alt tab menu. but again, still having the same issue. Did you review my screenshots and ini files I attached? Does everything look correct? I'm running FX3 from a shortcut on my desktop. Am I supposed to launch it a different way or does that not matter?

Spoke too soon. Had to end the process for DOFLinx since it was still running from before. then when I started it via the shortcut, I get BG now? yay! Only problem now is I'm noticing it seems to hihack my controls. Like when the option to continue comes up, I can't hit my enter button on my cab. I have to use the mouse after I get it back into focus. any way to make it so I can still use my cab buttons to start etc?

Glad to hear you have progress.

 

DOFLinx monitors the keyboard buffer, it does not clear it.  I use my buttons for continue, etc as standard.  I have a standard IPac emulating a keyboard.  Not sure what to suggest for this.  What hardware are you using?

I have zeb's latest version plunger kit. Before I got dumplings going it was working fine so I'm not sure why it stopped working right. It's like I have to alt-tab and use my mouse to get in there once I'm in the game then my standard button works fine it's the transition in the beginning when I first go into the game

Windows focus can be changed when you have an active backglass start.  This may be what is impacting you.  Exact reasons for this change in focus adversely affecting only some is unknown.  DOFLinx can be used to try and reset the focus.  Have a read of the guide, there is a parameter called something like FX3_FOCUS=  try using it both on and off and if it helps you get the result you need.

So I inadvertently forgot all about this thread before spending hours pulling my hair out b/c I thought the dmd in FX3 was stealing focus then I finally found this again and sure enough, adding FX3_FOCUS=0 to the doflinx file resolved the issue. Good lord! lol
